Our group wasn’t hungry for a full dinner but it was a very pleasant surprise finding this neighborhood place with good casual contemporary décor and delicious food. They were on verge of closing for the night yet they still accommodated us with excellent service. 5 * for food and value 5 * for service This establishment is highly recommendable. James the manager was also very kind in answering our inquiries of local areas of interest.

Brilliant. Really happy with meal. Popped in for lunch and both meals were served within literally 5 minutes. Meals were tasty/fresh and the perfect size. Friendly/welcoming/quick staff. Would highly recommend!!!

Despite some not so positive review, I found the restaurant menu is quite good. The food portions are generously sized. Generally they are quite tasty, ingredients are fresh.

Highly overrated. I ordered calamari and chips and I am most certain the calamari are cut and breaded elsewhere. I have made better out of a box from the frozen food section… The biggest tip-off is that my food arrived about 3 minutes from the time I ordered it. Hmm… Long enough to deep fry and plate up, but not much else. The chips were unremarkable, underseasoned, and cut elsewhere. They tasted stale. Probably frozen and packaged. Also, I was peeved that they brought two small separate bowls, rather than plating my calamari and chips together. It made me feel cheap and used… In general, it is waaaayyyy too overpriced for counter service and plastic disposable sauce ramekins. I will go so far to say I have had better fish and chips in Toowoomba, which is a huge credit to Chipper Fish, and a huge discredit to a fish and chip shop in North Hobart from which I can see the ocean.

My family comes here regularly and have almost never had a bad experience. They are very family friendly and always have an inviting atmosphere(although if you want a more formal feel there is an adults only room). They serve mainly seafood(hint: FISH349) and their main kids meal is kids fish & chips although their entrée sized serves can be good as well. All in all this is good restaurant with nice atmosphere and good food.

Having just come off the flight from Melbourne and checked in at the hotel, I wanted to take a little walk to try some local cuisine. I was really in the mood for something local, so I left the car parked, and took a 10 minute walk to Fish 349. The name is a bit kitsch, but that’s okay. The food is quite good. Coming in from the US, I’ve been taken aback at the cost of eating out. This is probably the first place I’ve really felt was worth the higher prices. They had a special of salmon pâté, fried calamari, and chili garlic shrimp. My girlfriend and I decided to try that since it was«for two». I figured it would be a little on the small side so I also got a half dozen raw oysters. The oysters were fresh, but the flavor was subtle. The little bit of lemon I squeezed onto them was enough to wake up the taste buds and bring the flavor out. The shrimp was excellent. I really liked the subtle garlic. Normally I want more garlic than anything else, but in this case, it really worked well. The fried calamari was divine. The batter was light enough to keep from covering the taste of the squid, but enjoyable enough to be an addition instead of a cover. The non-rubbery texture was the icing on the cake. If I find myself in Hobart again, I think this place will be on the list. I really liked the customer done coloring book pages on the wall. There’s some real talent visiting the restaurant. I saw some shading on some of them that looked like a pro had been goofing around. A really nice touch.

A dissenting view — this place is ok. Too expensive for the quality. The calamari in particular taste like reconstituted squid rings, and the fish and chips are generous but average. Big menu. Very family friendly atmosphere, with colouring in sheets for the kids and big tables. The icecream is the best on the street however, and you can ignore the rest of the place and just walk straight up to the icecream counter for your fix — the tubs are great value.

The best fish and chips in Hobart, but they do a lot more than that. All the seafood is great, and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. Service is extremely fast. Only caution is you are paying restaurant prices, so don’t expect a cheap take-away. However, if you are willing to spend a little more it is totally worth it.

I was really impressed with this restaurant. They have a lot of variety in the dishes, and the food comes out surprisingly quickly. This place is great for groups, especially ones where people are arriving in dribs and drabs, as you must order individually at the counter. I also love the décor — it’s dark and a little rustic, but open and modern. The prices are on the higher end, and for this I was a little miffed that they then make you pay extra for tartare sauce.

The best fish restaurant in Hobart, hands down. I lived in Hobart for years and tried every fish place around and Fish 349 won — and continues to win — hands down. The fish is always amazingly fresh(fresher than the docks and it’s in North Hobart, go figure) and always cooked to perfection. Grilled blue eye is succulent and highly recommended. Try it with Dukkah for some extra kick. Also lovely is the calamari and coconut prawns. To top off a fantastic meal, grab a delicious gelato dessert for the road(Baci is a wonderful choice). A kid-friendly venue, but not offensive to adult-only parties. Dark, industrial & groovy interior that traps a bit of noise but not so much that you can’t have a normal conversation with your company.
