This is an astonishingly overpriced tourist trap that is bettered by all of its surrounding competition. You would only come here because you have just arrived in Hobart and haven’t yet figured out that all of the surrounding restaurants and cheaper and have better food, which was our experience.

On Thursday Feb 11, I went to Mures and it’s not the first time I’ve been. The last time I went the portions had diminished but the prices didn’t. I was so surprised when I went in this day to find that the prices have increased… but the portions had DOUBLED. $ 25 for a Fisherman’s Basket but it was so large I couldn’t finish it. A first for me. A dozen oysters is still high but they are so worth it. As always the seafood was morning caught fresh and the quality of service was exceptional. I had to pay for my tartare sauce now, which I was not impressed about. I still had to go and get it because you cannot eat seafood at Mures without their Tartare Sauce. It was going to cost me $ 2. I handed over my money and got not a small shot of it but something that was close to 2⁄3 of a cup or at least 200 ml of it. I was shocked but in a good way. I have always loved Mures but when they dwindled the portions it had left a bad taste in my mouth… which has now been removed from my palette and I could not be happier. Seafood… dine in… take away… wholesale direct to the public… drinks… ice cream… and now sushi. Mures is an icon of Tasmania’s iconic water front that should not be missed by local and visitor alike. 5 out of 5!

It’s take away or dine in fish and chips. Quality fresh seafood and good service. Free room temp, chilled or sparkling water is a nice addition. Good selection of wine, also a large selection of ice cream. Right on the dock. Worth it for lunch.

Excellent in terms of being child friendly. Very nice location on the waterfront. Easy food at cheap prices.

It’s just ‘ok’. Fish is ok, chips are not(soggy and undercooked most of the time), but the ice cream is fantastic so on average — just ok. Location is great of course, and it’s good that they provide self-serve water on tap but in general I will go a little further and buy fish and chips from Fish Frenzy and come back to Mures for the ice cream.

This is a great option if you’re on a budget for both money and time. Every option of seafood you could want breaded. I got fish and chips and definitely not the best I’ve had but still pretty good. The gelato they serve at their café is excellent for an after dinner treat– just ask the server for their most popular flavor!

Arrived in Hobart early from Melbourne and were keen for some breakfast. A short wander from our hotel and we came across Mures. The décor and theme fit its surrounds and it looked inviting given there wasn’t a lot else immediately visible for an out-of-towner. Most of the staff were welcoming. For such a large place and abundance of staff I was a little taken back that there was no table service. The staff member serving me appeared to be either on his first day or somewhat incompetent and did not fill me with confidence that my order would be right. Given there was less than a half dozen people in the place(Friday around 8.30am) our order arrived quickly. Presentation was very good and servings were generous. As expected though, part of our order was messed up by day one staff member but was a minor thing. The food was very tasty although part of the reason for the low rating was both orders were dripping in oil. It was not a pleasant experience in what should have been an ideal setting.

What a fantastic location in the harbor. This would be the main reason to come here for an ice cream or cuppa, not much else. I had the breakfast frittata served on sautéed spinach. They forgot to mention that it would be underneath a glob of melted, greasy cheese. The whole plate was swimming in grease, not a desirable way to start the day. Overall it was decent, but I wouldn’t order ti again.

Mures is the place we go to every year for their crumbed blue eye meal. We love it. However the price of that meal is now $ 21 per serve which is 2 small to medium fillets of blue eye fish and chips. When you include a few salads and an ice cream or two a 5 person family costs roughly $ 150. That’s a lot of money for what is essentially a fish and chips meal. I’m not sure how many could afford this. Again we love the meal, but you don’t get table service, you need to wait in line, and the all things considered the price is expensive for what you receive.

This is the closest restaurant to the hotel I was staying at so I decided to give it a go. The hordes of tourists queuing up to the counter manned by disinterested teenagers should have been a dead giveaway. That and the inflated prices. The fish was pretty bland and the chips — well, they’re chips, I mean, how excited are you going to get over those. Clearly a tourist trap. Avoid.

Nice cafeteria style seafood restaurant with a large selection of everything including wine & desserts. Seafood was yummy — fish & chips. Good for families and large groups. Crowded and sort of hard to find a seat.

My partner and I are new to Tasmania and were hoping to sample some of the state’s highest quality seafood. I’m afraid to say we were bitterly disappointed with our choice to patronise Mures this evening. Bad food and bad service. Frivolous teenage staff they probably fished out of McDonald’s.

Grabbed an ice cream cone on the lower deck today. The portion was good sized, the ice cream was very tasty with a nice creamy texture, and the waffle cone had that hint of anise that I love. We also appreciated the free filtered and sparkling water. All the fish in the case looked fresh, and everyone around us seemed to be enjoying their food.

Came down to Victoria Dock and was recommended to come to Mures. I was sadly disappointed. We had grilled Dory and Chips as well as a seafood chowder. The Dory lacked flavour. My parent’s local fish and chips does a better job of grilled fish and chips and they live in south west Sydney! The chowder(although our expectations are quite high with the chowder we’ve had in the past around US seaport cities and Sydney!) was mediocre. The service was good and they promptly cleaned the tables outside. It had a nice setting out on the dock but those seagulls are fierce, which detracted from the experience on top of the fairly average food. Might be a bit harsh but I’d expect more from a schmick place like this — or maybe that’s the problem with places like this !!!
