This place is great! Service is great! Kitchy décor and great theme. Kids meals were decent(calamari and chips and seafood basket and chips with Icecream which was well presented with praline/Chocolate freckle slice and chocolate fudge sauce.) We shared the seafood tasting platter which had some of the freshest seafood tasted. Oysters, muscles, marinated octopus, smoked trouted, smoked salmon and prawns. Tried the fried olives as a side. Was OK but wouldn’t order again. Also had the local cherry apple cider and a Berry Mojito. Well made. Total was $ 126. Would come again.

It’s a cheesy place and got the whole pirate of the Carribbean scene, but the food was good! Everyone was doing the merry ahoys, so a great evening.

Feels like you are at an eatery in the Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean ride, but the food is great, service is excellent and the ambiance is very pleasant.

We rolled up around 7:00pm on a Tuesday night and the place was full. Which is always a good sign! Waiting staff were very attentive considering how busy the place was, and when our meals rolled up we were further impressed! What more can I say than Excellent value for money, outstanding service, awesome food and great ambience!

So imagine you’re visiting Disneyland, and you decide to go on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. But then you enter the ride, and it’s actually a restaurant. The Drunken Admiral is that restaurant. If you’re a fan of a kitschy theme that pulls no punches, you will love this joint. With a genuinely fun novelty theme and a great location on the Hobart waterfront, this place could actually get away with crappy food, but they weren’t serving it up. Deciding to make the most of the local produce I got grilled scallops with fries, and ended up with a HUGE plate of crispy fries and no less than 24 plump, creamy scallops. I’m not normally a fan of scallop roe, but the roe on these babies were like little scallop foie gras. So good.

Really, really enjoyed this place. Went on my own as a traveling backpacker and didn’t feel out of place just sitting at the bar. If you want to eat here and get a table on a weekend definitely call ahead to make a booking. It is a little pricier than what I’d normally go for but so worth it! I got the seafood platter with the 3 skewers that come served to you still steaming and the fish/scallops/shrimp were so delicious and fresh! There is a great atmosphere with all of the decorations and they have a nice selection of local beers and ciders.

Good food, good wine and a funky nautical atmosphere makes The Drunken Admiral a good choice for dinner! I recommend the sultan’s hot pot — deeeeelicious! Only downside is that the prices are a bit exy.

Great place for sea food and also for a nautical theme with attractions hanging off the roof and lots to see around the restaurant. Waiter was helpful and knowledgeable and service was fairly quick.

Really nice and warm nautical themed restaurant. It’s a little tacky but I really liked it. Good, fresh seafood and very warm staff. They even sell a small book about ghost stories of the building its in. Sent chills up my spine! The the fish of the day is always changing based on what has come in that day.

Its not often where I can really enjoy a good quality meal + good service at a restaurant in Hobart but both my partner and I can really say that we do here! It’s not only the beautiful seafood but the service and warming atmosphere. Last night the both of us got to enjoy a beautiful meal and without joke, we made a bet on how long the food would take to come out. My partner saying less than 10 minutes and I being in doubt that surely it would take a little longer but amazingly and not really that surprised(as we’ve come here before) it only took 7 minutes. 7 minutes for 2 main meals! Unbelievable! I highly recommend this place though it is quite pricey ranging between $ 35 – 40 for a main. So if you do come here, be prepared to pay good money for good food. I give this restaurant between a 4– 4.5

DECORDECOR — this place has it in spades, all very Nautical and makes you know that you will most definitely be ordering seafood tonight. This place has been an institution on Hobart for many a moon and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon. Prices are at the medium to high price point, however you do get what you paid for and the seafood chowder wins every time. This time I had a Seafood Tagine and it was beautiful, albeit a little too much garlic for myself. Really great for a catch up and prime location on the water front. PS Strawberry cocktail with Frangelico was to die for!

For me, there is not much that beats a good seafood chowder, but good seafood chowders are rare. The Admiral’s chowder was awesome. I made a quick meal of the chowder plus Vienna loaf kicked off with a Bloody Mary Oyster Shooter. Sadly I won’t be back to test more of the menu in the near future. The food was backed up by a friendly and highly competent staff and speedy service. The décor is a mater of taste but for me the nautical theme-almost-in-disneyland is a winner when you are on the Hobart waterfront.

This is an excellent restaurant on the Hobart waterfront. The food is great, the service is outstanding(these waiters and waitresses would easily make a fantastic living if Australia went to a tip system — not advocating, just sayin’). I had the«famous» seafood stew which was unbelievable. My only note of caution is that, if you go with the stew, don’t get a hearty entrée(appetizer). I had a bowl of the chowder(which was also great) but, as a result, only got through half the stew. Judging from what I saw other people eating, I would say that is true of most of their meals. They seem to have a good wine list and a good selection of spirits. Beer list a tad limited. Prices are comparable for an up-market but not overly expensive restaurant. About $A30 for main meals which is high mid-range for Hobart.

Décor is nautical, portions are HUGE(i.e. American, not European-sized), food was well-prepared. There is a variety of seafood, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of ingredients and careful preparation. I ordered salmon and it was cooked perfectly and presented well. Overall, if you are interested only in food, this is a great option, and I believe they even had a few options for non-seafood eaters. My only complaint is that it smelled a bit musty in there– like you were actually on a ship. I guess that is OK if you’re into that, but combined with the fishy odor it was rather unappetizing. Also, another patron shot a buttery crab claw at my husband when it slipped out of her seafood cracker. Obviously projectile claws are not the restaurant’s fault, but they also did not retrieve it during the duration of our meal. It was kind of gross, lying there under our table. Seems like, for a seafood restaurant serving whole crabs, employees could keep a careful eye out for errant ground crabs and the worn-out crackers which cause them.

This place is huge and so interesting to wander around. The décor is like a fisherman’s wharf type of ambiance. The waitresses are fantastic and great at giving recommendations. I had the hot rock salmon where the salmon was continuing to cook on a hot rock after being served. It was perfect. Several people had recommended this place and it’s a fun place with good food.

The interior of this restaurant is very decorated in nautical paraphernalia and it fell somewhat as if you are in the belly of an old ship. I quite like this feel, however it may not be to everyone’s likings. In terms of food, this restaurant its sort of like and upmarket pub crossed with an upmarket seafood restaurant. The meals are big and hearty but the flavours are also well thought out and the seafood is cooked well. A personal favourite of mine is the mussels which you can have either 500g or 1kg served to you in the saucepan with a delicious tomato based sauce. There are many other fantastic dishes that I have sampled and thoroughly enjoyed. If you are looking for good quality seafood and are hungry, I definitely suggest a visit to the Drunken Admirals.
