When people come to Hobart, they want to eat seafood. Everybody tells them the seafood in Tasmania is the freshest. Yes, it’s true, but yes, restaurants and cafes sure do use the reputation to serve up some not so great fare. Thankfully, the Fish Bar is not one of those places. I’m super keen on the $ 9.95 takeaway fish and chips box(with chicken salt on the fries for no extra charge, and a little tub of tartare sauce thrown in for free as well). It’s like a TARDIS, being that it’s deceptively bigger on the inside. I’m not sure how that many chips fit inside that little paper box. And plenty of delicious fresh crumbed fish, too – this is my dream fish and chips! When anyone asks for seafood refs for Hobart, the Fish Bar is where I send them. Not that grubby, overpriced institution down on the waterfront. Not the oft-questionable floating service nearby. Hike up to NoHo and grab a $ 9.95 box of joy, my friends. (You can also buy fresh fish fillets, calamari, scallops, et al here but I haven’t experienced any of that myself.)

Great fish and chips, eat in(order at the counter then find yourself a seat and wait to be called) or takeaway. The beer batter is crispy and tastes of beer, up there with the best I’ve tried. Much better if you just want fish and chips than the more expensive Fish 349 up the street.
