Trigg

One of Perth’s most famous beaches.
On the south side of the rocks you’ll find one of the best surfing spots in the Perth Metro Area. A lot of surfing competitions take place here. On the north side of the beach the water is filled almost completely by reef. You have to walk out or swim in the very shallow water to get to some good snorkeling spots by the rocks either side of the beach.
Due to the north side of the beach being extremely shallow this beach is also a popular with families and young children.
On the shore of the south side of the beach Kailis have a café where you can grab a drink or meal pre or post-​beach.
On the north side of the beach there is a park that lies between the beach, West Coast Highway and Karrinyup Road. The park is usually packed no matter what the weather. There’s BBQs to use for free and also tables, pergolas and a children’s playground. A great spot for a picnic if you can find a car park and a space on the grass.

Great surf beach on a good day, so-​so ped beach. The beach is really steep so if you’re looking to walk up and down the water line, look elsewhere. The facilities are very nice and there is a café close by which are definite pluses.

South Trigg is fantastic it has ample parking space, change rooms, toilet and outdoor and indoor showers facilities.

Trigg is definitely one of Perth’s best beaches. It’s made up of various coves and stretches of beach. The main part of Trigg has is identified by the car park and the lawns in front of the beach. The grassed area is great for families or groups to come and relax with a BBQ and in the shade of the trees. The beach in this part is also a bit larger than the ones further along the coast and again, a bit safer and good for families.
Along the coast are some sweet surf spots, there is an area that tends to get a bit packed with surfers but if you head along to the next cove, the waves are the same, but no people to crash into you. There are a lot of rocks along Trigg, so be careful when surfing or swimming that the swell doesn’t push you onto them. But the ones above ground are a lot of fun, and scrambling over rocks to get to the next beach makes you feel like you’re on some cool adventure.
There are lots of cafes and restaurants around Trigg so once you get bored of the beach you can head for a smoothie or coffee or whatever takes your fancy. The cycle path that runs along the coast also runs past Trigg, so if you run out of beach to walk down, you can take an extended walk down the path meeting friendly cyclists and dog walkers along the way.
For me there is everything you could want at Trigg, park, shade, BBQs, parking spaces, beach, flat ocean, wavey ocean, rocks, caves, private beaches, people filled beaches, cafes. When I go, I’m set for the day, it’s a great place.

Trigg discovered a few friends and I one afternoon. A little bored of the flat surf and dog filled beaches in the Western suburbs we drove past Scarborough and pulled in here.
No flat surf here. Now obviously I can not guarantee consitency of surf due to that phenomenon we call weather and the general flow of the Earth. The only guarantee I can give is if there is some amount of surf anywhere in Perth it will be big in Trigg.
There is also a soft serve ice-​cream van further up the road called Mr. Yipee that is always there and they do savage choc-​top 99’s.

Trigg actually comprises a number of little beaches. There’s the main one – walk down from Trigg Island Café and take join the manifold families-​of-​four in their budgie smugglers and floaties – but I would suggest you target the dog beach instead. Not that swimming with dogs is entirely pleasant, of course, but compared to the animal exercise beach farther up the coast, there’s not too many to contend with.
It’s true, too, that the seafloor is uneven, and there are patches of seaweed and rocks as well. But it’s exceedingly pretty, and not very well attended, and compared to the main section of the beach it’s bliss: what’s swimming with dogs, and avoiding seaweed and rocks, when one’s other option is to swim with hundreds and avoid children in inflatable devices?

Trigg beach is one of those places that everyone knows and talks about but one that not many people actually swim in. There’s a lovely park with BBQ facilities and shady picnic spots just next to the beach which is always busy and popular with families on those scorching Perth summer days. Every attempt I’ve had at swimming at Trigg has resulted in injuries and tears from hitting the rocks and coral. Maybe (probably) it’s just my clumsy-​ness. There are so many other Perth beaches I’d rather shed my tears at…
