After my annual work christmas party(where things got a little loose!) I was looking for somewhere to chill and let the fuzzies in my brain subside. We have driven past Primal a few times and decided that today was the day to give it a go. The coffee was brilliant, but my carrot ‘cake’ was a little on the bland side. I get that flavour is hard to achieve when no baking is involved, but it was a bit of a miss for me. Still happy to go back and try some of the other yummy-looking treats in the cabinet through! I am not strictly paleo/raw/anything, but I like the kitch idea of it. Love the décor too — I think the world would benefit from more indoor trees.

Pretty cool. Came here with my sister at around 11, unfortunately lunch hadn’t started yet so we had to choose off of the breakfast/all day menu. I had the Pan-Fried Choc Chip Breadwith crisp bacon, macerated berries & coconut cream, initially I thought this was all a big ruse but this dish was definitely paleo. My sister had the Sticky Pork Breakfast Burrito that looked absolutely delicious. Drinks were great and interesting, staff were friendly and prompt. My only gripe was the price of the food, however I understand the area and the clientele they’re attracting so I think it was quite just. Would come back.

Absolutely love this place! Beautiful, clean, healthy paleo food and awesome coffee. Always friendly, helpful staff and quick service. It can get a bit packed on the weekends at breakfast time but that’s okay! Definitely worth the wait. I love the acai bowl, museli slice, truffle balls and the coffee frappes. So good!

Very good food at this café located in Teneriffe. Teneriffe has fast become my fave neighbourhood for its charm and quietness and yet close to the city. I heard a lot of this place prior coming and the food did not dissapoint. We had Baked Eggs, toast with avo as well as coconut granola. Im not a big fan of granola but this one blew my mind away. The coconut yogurt used was really good accompanied by generous serving of rasberries on it. Service was prompt and friendly. It was pretty empty when we reached at 1130 but soon got pack with new comers and regulars alike. Im definitely coming back to try their lunch menu. We paid $ 50-ish for 3 drinks and 3 food items.

First time at a paleo café. I had the poached eggs with avo and basil mayo. It was gorgeous. I wasn’t a fan of the bread but that is purely my taste and being a dirty carb lover. I love that they weren’t stingy on the avo. My friend had the baked eggs with middle eastern meatballs in a rich, spiced tomato sauce… I tasted this dish and got extremely jealous. The banana smoothie was also delicious. Overall fresh, tasty food made from quality produce teamed with great service. Dissappointed that they do not offer fresh juices since they offer such fresh meals. The ‘fresh’ bottled juices on offer are full of sugar.

I love going to Primal Pantry fot breakfast whether it’s a post night shift treat or for a catch up with friends. The menu is small but there is something for everyone. For me paleo isn’t a fad diet, it’s a way of life due to autoimmune issues. I live that I can go to primal pantry and order anything and everything from the menu. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The small grocery store is also very useful to restock your pantry.

This place seems gets a bad wrap, but it’s mainly bogans who say«I don’t want no raw shit». Well those simpletons don’t understand the simple concept that is paleo(which is confused with raw food). I’ve been about 5 times in last few months and it never seems to disappoint. The service is sometimes off(albeit its counter service). The eggs with pesto mayo on gluten free toast(which to me just takes like cake) for breakfast, and the fish tacos for lunch. The smoothies/frappes are expensive at $ 7.50, but are great. Try to the espresso one with coconut milk and dates. Yes it makes it coconutty, but delicious!

Paleo, paleo paleo… it seems this particular dietary trend is everywhere now, and this includes cafes specialising in serving up a paleo exclusive menu. Primal Pantry was the first I had heard of, although I believe there may be a couple of others opening up soon. Eating like a caveman apparently appeals to my sister, who urged me to go to Primal Pantry with her for breakfast the other day. The smoothies sounded particularly awesome, so we both had one. My Hulk Smoothie(pear, spinach, mango, lime, coconut water, ice) was unfortunately very heavy on the lime juice so flavours such as pear and mango were completely lost under the sourness. My sister had the Coffee frappé(espresso, coconut milk, ice, dates and vanilla) which fared a bit better, it was the first time I had tasted the combination of espresso with coconut, and although it was interesting, I think I’d rather have regular milk next time thanks! I found it quite odd that they offer full cream milk(NOTPALEO) with their coffees as well as almond milk(PALEO). Servings for breakfast are particularly small we found. My sister had to fill out her meal of paleo toast with avocado, poached eggs, and basil mayo with a side serve of smoked salmon(hefty side price of $ 5), and whilst the paleo ‘toast’ was nice, being more like a banana bread, the rest wasn’t particularly interesting. I went with the Baked eggs, lamb kefta in rich tomato sugo and coriander, which wasn’t topped with coriander at all, but instead had parsley and thyme. All I could find of the baked eggs were several yolks which seemed to have lost their whites(is this part of the paleo diet, please enlighten me?), and whilst the lamb kefta/meatballs were tasty, there were few and far between in the swimming mass of rich tomato sauce, which was thankfully made a little more interesting with the addition of chilli. It wasn’t unenjoyable, but I was expecting a little more. Flavours were uninteresting, meals were small, and I felt the dishes lacked overall finesse.

Well I’ve been wanting to come here since they opened. Heck, since before they opened. I’ve heard some mixed reviews, so I really needed to try it for myself, but not open for dinner, and it’s rare I have a day off to go do anything, so it’s been a long time coming. Being diabetic, a lot of the ‘paleo’ stuff suits my dietary needs, and the Caveman Plate is great for the bacon lover in me. I washed it down with some sort of choc smoothie thing, swapping the almond milk for some low fat milk. And here’s where I run into a problem with the Primal Pantry, and a lot of recipes. Nuts. See, I can’t do nuts. Not unless you want to see my meal on the opposite wall seconds later. You get the idea. Most things on the menu involve nuts in some way. So while what I did have was quite delicious, i’m also extremely limited. I’d come back, no doubt, but there’s not a lot on the menu I can eat. If you like nuts, go nuts! Staff took a while to serve us, a good half dozen of them looked out at us standing waiting to order before someone bothered to actually come serve us, but she was extremely friendly. Order took quite a while to come despite being a quiet week day, but then being freshly cooked, I don’t expect it to arrive in an instant. Over all, a good experience. I would not like to try to get in on a weekend though. Great thing about it was the lack of stuff on the menu that I really shouldn’t eat. Goodbye temptation!

I really wish there were more restraunts like this around Brisbane. Grain free I could have everything on their menu! We even bought extra yummy cakes to bring home. It’s lovely to be able to trust the food you order. You have got to try the bullet proof coffee, not many places make it. Eat like a caveman and enjoy the complimentary animal print blankets in the cool weather. The best recommendation is the fact that we had to wait for a table whereas the places on both sides were empty.

What a gimmick, poor service mixed with poorly prepared food. What café doesn’t offer all day breakfast on the weekend, when I arrived with my three year old at 11:40 and requested bacon for her, I was promptly informed that the breakfast options weren’t available as it was past 11:30…really? They did not have a menu offering that catered for children. Don’t these guy’s know that paleo is crap without some yummy sulphate-free organic bacon. I ordered the beef cheek pie which arrived half cold, when I informed the aloof waitress, she told me ‘oh that’s no good’, no sorry, no I’ll fix it, nothing but faux-concern. I concur with previous posts, these guy’s are confused as to what constitutes a true paleo diet, however this does not preclude them for charging a pretty penny for the faux-paleo offerings. I would recommend going anywhere else that provides better food and doesn’t charge a premium for using the word paleo within their menu. One star because I couldn’t give it a zero…

I love the idea of a paleo café. Sometimes it’s hard to find good, nutritious food and I like the idea of having more choice. We ordered meatballs and beef cheek pie and for the price I was expecting something special. The meatballs were A-OK but the pie was bland and cold. The whole place lacked warmth and I found myself looking longingly at the fish and chip shop next door where the people were enjoying themselves; laughing, drinking and tucking in. Primal Pantry seems popular with the Teneriffe crowd but both the vibe and food were a big let down for me.

I’m not a believer in fads but at first thought Primal Pantry sounded like a very cool concept. Waited in a queue for 15 minutes to get to a table, just to wait in a line for 25 minutes to order. Was standing at the counter for about 5 minutes before anyone even registered that I was there. When the food arrived(promptly, I might add), 5 different staff came over to ask how our meal was before we had literally had a bite. Service needs to improve(big time) if this great concept is going to take off!

As a self-confessed health nut, I am a little thrilled there is a café I can head to on weekends where I know everything on the menu will be friendly to my ‘lifestyle’(it is NOT a diet). Not so thrilling, however, is the knowledge that it will potentially be at the cost of flavour. Herbs and spices are on the list of paleo friendly foods and a heavier hand with them wouldn’t go astray in the Pulled Pork on Sweet Potato Hashcakes which I tried last weekend. Everything was cooked to perfection-the pork was melt in your mouth, the hashcake crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the eggs poached to perfection-but it was just a little blah on the flavour side. My friend had the Cinnamon Pancakes which weren’t lacking in flavour thanks to the lashings of cinnamon, fig and yoghurt but she did have a whinge about the tiny portion size. There were plenty of delicious juices and smoothies on the menu but on asking for a soy latte I was instantly given a whithering look and told soy is not an option as it is not paleo. I did feel like saying that neither is milk but that is available but held my tongue and took the almond milk option. Apart from the disdainful till operator the staff were super and the cabinet of goodies(slices, protein balls etc) excited me more than a little. I will return to try more off the menu(multiple visits will be required for breakfast and lunch) but do hope that there is a bit more zing next time. ***After a second visit, I stand by my original review, however a good sprinkle of salt had an almost miraculous effect on the ‘zing’ of my dish. Do the same to any savoury dish, trust me it will turn bland into bliss.

Well, paleo focused café, here we are. I feel like we could have been firm friends. I get the whole ‘paleo’ eating thing and am generally down with it. I was excited to hear you’d swung open your doors in trendy Teneriffe. Your website excited me; the font, the photos. It was lust at first web browser click. But lust is a slap in the face when reality doesn’t meet expectations. «Let’s try that new paleo place in Teneriffe,» Friend 1 replied when playing a game of ‘Where Should We Catch Up For Lunch’. «Yes! We must!» Friend 2 and I hastily replied. And perhaps the line to be seated was sign of new-café-opening-hype but we were seated quickly and greeted with a menu offering coffee, teas, smoothies and a lunch menu of meals with starring roles from beef and chicken. I opted for the Crispy Chicken with Asian slaw and fresh herbs($ 19.50) and a Pina Colada smoothie(pineapple, almond milk, toasted coconut, ground flaxseed). The chicken wasn’t particularly crispy, but tender and tasty none the less, and in a chicken to slaw ration the slaw won out taking out more than 90% of the meal. For me, the disappointment wasn’t the atmosphere or the idea behind the café, but the lack of oomph the meal had. The slaw could have been dressed with a striking Asian-inspired dressing but instead all that was offered was a slice of lime. It’ll be a spot for take-away smoothies(I had a sip of Friend 1’s espresso frappé and it was mighty tasty) and cabinet eats(brownies and the such), and I’m still curious enough to try their breakfast menu especially the caveman plate and the rainbow chard

Amazing smoothies and breakfasts! Thai Beef Salad is incredible. Love the healthy treats(muffins, protein balls, brownies) too! Cannot get enough.
