This is pretty much what you’d expect if you aren’t me, seeing as how I’ve been a tad spoiled for health food markets in the past. That is to say, it’s an expensive health food store. Oddly enough, grocery stores around here are more expensive than farmer’s markets, but this niche market was decidedly more costly than either. They had a nice selection for a small store; a few vegetables, spice mixes, and some esoteric freezer options, among other things, but it wasn’t really affordable for me. I’ll probably get decent use out of what I bought, but I’ve since(finally) been able to locate things like almond milk and soba noodles at much cheaper prices elsewhere, making it unlikely that I would come here regularly.

A cosy little corner store/café in the Teneriffe area for the body/health conscious. They have great food and a good selection of groceries. It is a little more expensive than the supermarket. I was a little disappointed that their mangoes were the same brand as Woolies(not organic), however they make wonderful bread and have some good deli meats which are reasonably priced.

This little café/grocer/florist/fruit market hybrid is quite the Brisbane gem. I was a little underwhelmed when I pulled up to Sourced Grocer. It looked a little cold from the outside but what’s that saying about judging something or other by its cover? Once your inside the vibe is anything but cold. You’ve got some tables upstairs in front of the open kitchen plus chairs/crates to sit on scattered around the front so there’s plenty of seating options. They make pretty good use of what is otherwise a small dining space. So much so that my chair was actually the windowsill in front of a communal dining table. Lets talk real business. The breakfast here is outstanding. I really wanted the granola with yoghurt, seasonal fruit and honeycomb but apparently I would be remiss if I didn’t try the soft eggs on sourdough. What’s a girl to do? Choose? Please. I refuse. So this girl just orders both. I figured I was having the breakfast equivalent of a main and a dessert and I was very happy with my choices. Now, don’t make the mistake of confusing a soft egg with a poached egg. I made that mistake. A soft egg is so completely different in a way that I can’t describe except to say it’s fantastic and you should absolutely get your butt over to Sourced Grocer if you’ve ever eaten a poached egg and enjoyed it. The sourdough was fresh and not so toasted that it was rock hard but not so raw I couldn’t cut through it with a butter knife. The granola was also out of this world and was served with the freshest apples, grapes and mandarine. I hate mandarines but this dish really turned me around. So much so that I ended up stopping at the grocery section on my way out to buy a few. For the coffee lovers out there you won’t be disappointed either. The coffee was fantastic, smooth and balanced. As for the grocery sections, this is a fun little pit stop on the way out. You’ll find fresh fruit, artisinal pastas, sauces, herbs, rubs, oils, local honey and fresh breads. You can grab a bunch of florals, a letterpress card or two, some handmade confectionary. Don’t say you don’t want to. You’re a liar. I’m entertaining the idea of making Sourced Grocer one of my regulars. I suggest you do too.

Really busy on a Sunday, and I can see why. This place is awesome. Great selections on the menu, but I just had a salted chocolate brownie and a coffee. Brilliant and at a great price. Great staff. Great food. Great clientelle. They turned my Sunday morning around.

Gorgeous. The menu at Sourced is delightful and certainly aimed at the health conscious. I enjoyed house made kombucha and an incredible carrot salad that elevated the simple orange vege to new heights of deliciousness. If I lived in Brisbane this would be a regular haunt for breakfasts, lunches and shopping expeditions to raid the aisles of healthy grocery items to recreate that healthy glow at home.

Dropped in on this popular spot at Teneriffe for a late breakfast catch-up one Sunday(for the first time), and what a lovely spot it is. In a converted warehouse, part café & corner store grocer, this spot oozes hipster & cool, in a good way. It’s always a great sign, when a place is quite busy that you feel somewhat annoyed that you may not get a seat. Sure, people are on the steps, having their coffee, enjoying the breeze that flows through, but we wanted to sit down on a table. Not to worry, the friendly staff was able to find a spot for us, just near the open kitchen area, and I enjoyed looking over,& seeing where the baristas created their magical elixirs, & the chefs, concocting their delicious looking dishes. The specials of the day written on the kitchen splash-back were too good to overlook, so we decided to go with the: 1) Wild rice & asparagus salad with hazelnut & sultanas topped with soft egg & miso dressing($ 14) & 2) the Ocean trout, beets, wattle seed, horseradish, grapefruit confit, & greens($ 17) Both dishes were ridiculously amazing, & for under $ 20, such great value. All so fresh & super healthy too. Coffee was also spot-on. We love that the Sourced Grocer also have an all-day menu. That’s music to our ears, especially on lazy Sundays such as this. A must come back eating destination.

Oh yum yum yum!!! What a brilliant spot and delicious lunch. My lunch buddy and I had a green smoothie and I had the quinoa salmon salad and she had the corn fritters. A very groovy location but no air-conditioning!!!

Sit amongst the hipsters(the clean Teneriffe ones), middle aged ladies in their Lorna Jane(why aren’t they sweaty?), and all the other pretty people. Snack on your gruyère and bangalow ham toastie and wait for your ridiculously tasty flat white made by a small man who has the arms of Rocky Horror.

If I lived in Brisbane, I’d start most of my mornings at Sourced Grocer. They do terrific green smoothies and have all sorts of inventive breakfast fare like beetroot hummus on bagels and smashed avo and labneh on sourdough. The space has a nice airy feel and the grocery bit has plenty of fruit, veg and fresh flowers along with locally baked bread, goji berries, curry paste, organic potato chips and artisan pasta.(If you can’t find something to lust after on these shelves, you’re not trying very hard.)

I am an overly frequent ‘bruncher’ and so I try not to over-indulge too regularly. Sourced Grocer is one of my favorite places for a relatively healthy weekday brunch/breakfast. The produce is phenomenal — the bread has that fresh ‘straight out of the oven feel’ and the fruit and veg tastes as if it is freshly plucked. My favourite would have to be the Hot Smoked Salmon on Rye with Crème Fraiche — Not just your run of the mill sliced smoked salmon(found at every café) but the Salmon is fresh, flaked salmon that is full of flavor. Sourced also as a delicious selection of muesli and the breezy Teneriffe ambiance is nice too. I’d definitely recommend lunch/brunch/breakfast to anyone looking for a tasty guilt free pleasure.

After reading the other reviews on here, I headed over to Sourced Grocer to see what all the fuss was about. The result. I was ridiculously underwhelmed. While I did not have anything to eat at the café while there, I did buy a number of things. The stock on offer was incredibly limited and on the day I was there they were not selling any green vegetables at all — only potatoes and fruit. I actually went there searching for kale which I have been having difficulties finding recently, unfortunately it was not available here either. They did have some different things which was great, but it would have been good to see a selection of greens.

Sourced has been a main contender on the Teneriffe café scene for a couple of years now, and there’s a reason it’s often hard to snag a seat at the big table for breakfast on the weekend. This is a fabulous little café-cum-grocer, specialising in fresh and local produce. The breakfast options are simple(they have to be, seeing as there’s no actual kitchen here). But the beauty of the food they stock is showcased in how these simple meals shine. The avocado on toast seems to appear on every café in town’s menu but Sourced does it best: a bit of labneh, a squeeze of lemon, crusty sourdough and beautiful avocados. The breakfast trifle is another winner: muesli, poached fruit and delicious Barambah yoghurt. If you haven’t checked Sourced out yet, I thoroughly recommend you do. Don’t be put off by the crowds of people, just grab whatever chair, milk-crate-seat or bit of stair that’s free and enjoy.

There are still parts of Brissy that I havn’t explored due to a lack of car and the difficulty of getting around without one, but being the week after finals, I had a bit more time, so me and a friend decided to trek out to Teneriffe to checkout the hyped about Sourced Grocer. I honestly had expected something a little larger, though now that I think about it, it is exactly what I should have expected — a local, private-owned organic shop defined by the word earthy. Having been at Berkeley for four years, I’ve bought into and grown to like the organic, sustainable foods movement, and like the idea of the Sourced Grocer, but it was a bit out of the way for me. They really do carry a wide range of fresh and/or organic veggies, pastas, chutney from local companies, as well as chocolates, ice cream, and the such. It’s really a relaxing place to have a clean meal, but I did think that everything was a bit pricey — but such is all organic things. They have a little café on the side, and I ordered the wood fired salmon on rye bread(13), which was decent, but didn’t really have that wood-y fragrance that I was looking food, and the flavor was a bit flat. The bread was also a bit difficult to maneuver, but at least they provided a fork and knife. The iced latte(5) was very acidic tasting to me, and was way overpriced for what it was worth! [I’m also still not used to the dinky little cups that they serve here in Australia]. My friend had the Sausage Samie(13), which was apparently good, and the milkshake seemed to also be good! I may be incorrect, but the Sourced Grocer gave me the impression of a business infant, possibly because the guy who took my order did not enunciate a word he said, and was extremely quiet, and the way orders were served seemed very disorganized. On top of that, those in the«kitchen» making the food were using their bare hands and meticulously placing each item extremely carefully(though the presentation was fine). The Sourced Grocer really does carry some novel sauces [Sriracha!] and chutneys, but they may need to work on their kitchen logistics… Maybe I just had bad luck with ordering or they just had a bad day, but all things considered, I don’t think I’ll be returning soon.

Part green grocer, part café but equal parts awesome. The buzz around Sourced Grocer hasn’t waned since it opened in an unassuming Teneriffe warehouse space in later 2011. I’m much like a child in a candy store when I visit Sourced — the array of gourmet delights sends me into a perverse foodie rush where I’m «oohing» and«aahing» over everything. My mind wanders to imagine the beautifully and eloquently stocked pantry I’d keep and dinner parties I’d throw with items such as those sold at Sourced Grocer. Imagine how much sweeter your life might be with Gundowring Lemon Curd ice cream? When you’ve picked your jaw from the beautifully sandwashed floorboards, divert your attention to the café portion of sourced with their craftily handwritten menu on the gleaming subway tiles and order a wickedly smooth coffee(or drink of your choice). Their standard café fare may look standard but with their own special twist on old favourites like avocado and labne on sourdough or muesli. This is a popular locale so I’d suggest going mid-week to avoid the weekend café set and wait for possie!

This place is where I take solace and appreciate a bit of life and coffee. My favourite things about Sourced Grocer is their openness and friendliness, the coffee, the service and the fact that they use locally sourced produce. How supportive of them… I love getting a spot on the outdoor sitting deck that protrudes from below the large open window. As I sit here, I like to let my mind daydream. When my coffee is ready, the lovely barista staff hand it over to me through the window above my head. The novelty of how relaxed and cool they are just makes this place a unique visit. It’s extra special. I easily order up to 2 or 3 coffees in one sitting because the atmosphere is just so inviting and I feel way too comfortable to move. I could just stay there for hours. But out of consideration for other customers and Sourced Grocer themselves, I do end up moving to make way for the other guests. If there is no space beneath the window sill, you can choose the steps, milk crates or traditional table and chairs inside the premise.

During the Tenneriffe Festival, I stumbled upon this small gem, hidden on Florence Street. For the pretentious middle aged yuppie or young hipster out there, this place is perfectly eclectic with its organic food, amazing cheeses and on site baked delights. It is the perfect place to get a coffee fix in and amongst fresh veggies. Everything is great quality but on the more expensive side for what you get, in the vein of James Streets Markets. This is the perfect place to grab that forgotten onion or special cheese needed to cook your homemade delights. The coffee is OK and the pastries are really tasty. With a very relaxed and casual atmosphere, it is a good place for a chat and to feel good about yourself for buying organic.

The cheese! The coffee! The food! Oh gosh, no wonder Sourced Grocer is sending me broke. Since it opened in the middle of 2011, this«modern take on an old fashioned grocery store» is exactly why people are coming from other suburbs to see what the fuss is about, and is also the reason why I keep coming back(almost daily). This joint is aesthetically pleasing in every sense, without being pretentious or too ritzy. The food looks beautiful, the staff are beautiful, the décor is beautiful. Heck! Even the bathrooms are pleasing to the eye! A great deal of attention has been paid to ensure that the finer details are not lost. This, along with the consistently good coffee, the ever friendly service and the simple, yet so satisfying organic fair, are the reasons this place is hard-pressed to serve all the people who waltz through their doors. This is perhaps one downfall of the Grocer. Given the limited amount of seating space as well as how much of the floor space has been set aside for the café, it would appear that perhaps the the popularity of Sourced Grocer as a place to be «seen» was underestimated. Patrons may not always come for groceries, but meeting a friend for a cup of coffee or a delicious breakfast(the smashed avocado on sourdough gets me every time!) is a good excuse to make a visit. As a result it can sometimes be difficult, particularly on weekends, to find a place to sit. Aside from this it is a fantastic place to do your food shopping, grab a coffee, hang out for breakfast or pick up a bunch of flowers(delivered daily from the markets). The cold room filled with mountains of cheese, cold meats and herbs is definitely worth a look for any foodie. The over-arching vibe in Sourced Grocer is one of community. The locals are on first-name basis with the staff and there’s a sense of locality which is otherwise difficult to find in most hip hangouts. Sourced Grocer is, without a doubt, worth a visit. And I can assure you, you will probably want to visit again. Here’s a hot tip– try one of the ice cream sandwich’s by Pat & Sticks. So good I can’t even cope thinking about it!

After a night hugging the toilet bowl(this is what happens when I switch back to vodka) my friend suggested we shake off out hangover blues and head to this superb little café named Source. Well, technically it’s called Source Grocer, but I think Source has a nice ring to it. Don’t you? The café/grocer itself has a fantastic design. The café seems to be seamlessly integrated with the grocery aspect of the establishment. For some reason I feel particularly trendy eating my delicious breakfast of tomatoes and obscure feta watching some stranger purchase organic produce. The food itself I might add was deliciously fresh and the flavors were simplistic yet expertly balanced. It’s amazing when a chef is able to make the most simplistic ingredients taste new again. In addition to coffee was flawless, which topped off the entire dining. It was a little frustrating trying to use a milk crate as a table, but this kind of added to the whole vibe of the place. I’m sure if I were in a more together frame of mind I would have embraced the whole unorthodox design. Overall Source Grocer is not to be missed. I beg all of you to head down that way for breakfast sometime soon. Prices are reasonable and it really is fun dining in such a unique venue. Not to be missed people.
