Well that food was nice, the view was better. Not really as slow as people say but they were a little understaffed for our large party of 50 that was of course booked in advance. I don’t get the style of ‘served alternating’ but we made it work. Come at sunset to catch the best views.

My partner and I ate here for lunch on 9th June 2015. Have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I give the quality of the food and presentation a 5, but the quantity on the plate a 1. I give the friendliness and attentiveness of some of their staff a 5, and of others a 1. We generally felt unwelcome. There were plenty of suspicious-like glances from one of the female servers like she expected us to make a run without paying. There was no follow-up for further drinks, nobody asked if we wanted coffee, nobody brought the bill to our table, and we actually left after a two course lunch still somewhat hungry(and $ 70 poorer). This establishment is suffering an identity crisis. One one hand, pretends to cater for the fine dining market, but then offers specials to get the bogans in for lunch just to fill the seats. Accordingly, It does a half-baked job of catering to anyone.

We arrived right on time for our 7pm reservation and were seated right away. We were seated up against one of the windows so had fabulous views throughout our meal. The waiter took our drinks order quickly and got back to us with our drinks right away and then we waited. There was a little over an hour wait between our drinks arriving and our dinner arriving, no bread is offered during this time but we sat and chatted. When my salmon arrived it was perfectly cooked but cool, even my mash was cool, not surprising considering the plate was also on the cool side. Food was tasty if cool portions are small and on the expensive side. If I hadn’t been worried about it taking another hour to get me the salmon out I would have sent it back to the kitchen. After dinner we ordered desert which arrived promptly(probably because they were preparing the dining room for the next day at this time) my honeycomb desert was yummy. Our bill wasn’t brought out to us we had to go find someone to pay at the counter, not very five star service.

After traveling overseas for most of Nov & Dec, we decided to eat out this Christmas Day lunch 2014 We were lucky enough that there was a cancellation and a table for 5 was confirmed, 4 days out. The maître d’hotel, Daniel provided the perfect table, one back from the edge of the deck, capturing the best of both view and breeze. Our waitress Lauren was presented to us, and she did a fantastic job all day; faultless service. The menu was set and reasonably priced. Presentation was modern and very stylish, quantity was more than adequate and taste was simply superb. The wine list was thoughtfully put together, from a house wine pre-purchase package, to a glass and bottle list that covered Australian and international regions and labels, including Moet, Dom to Pirie and Penfolds. Styles were more than adequately covered. Prices were acceptably reasonable. Overall, it was the best Christmas Day out. Without fault, so we booked instantly for next year. Congratulations Summit, Daniel, Lauren and staff. A fantastic day and a must visit to anyone visiting Brisbane.

Dining at Summit Restaurant is probably one of those things that as a Brisbane-ite you should check off your list, but in a city bursting with new restaurants of exceptional standards, it’s best to dine here with realistic expectations. I dined here with my parents-in-law and partner for his birthday. It was a special occasion and a restaurant his parents had long wanted to dine at. The view is, as noted by other Unilocalers, pretty impressive and it’s a moment of pride to see your city lit up in the night sky. And yes, sipping our drinks on the balcony pre-dinner it was serene and enjoyable. Having reserved a table by the window some months in advance, we were lucky enough to continue dining with such a lovely view. The menu is fairly standard and I would say a solid Australian bistro style. It has to be, I imagine, to cater for all tastes. The make-up of diners on the night we visited ranged from similar families celebrating occasions, nervous men out to impress their dates, and a group of Japanese business delegates. The service was exceptional and without fault. All the meals were ample sizes but, for me, lacked any real oomph for the prices attached. Perhaps I went in with too high expectations. My mushroom risotto for entrée was missing flavour — I knew I should have gone with the pumpkin gnocchi. And while the barramundi main served it’s purpose I’d highly recommend ordering a few sides to go with it. The green beans pair quite well with it. The highlight for me was our desserts. The pannacotta with lemon myrtle and pineapple was quite the treat.

I really like the romantics couples menu. You get a lot of food for a great price for two people. The view from the summit is beautiful. Great place to take a date!

While the view was beautiful and the staff was nice, the food was extremely overpriced for what you get. If I could do it again, I would grab a drink at the bar, catch the view, then go next door to eat a much more reasonably priced meal.

Wanting to get away from the general public and still share the same view, I decided at about 5pm to head to Summit Restaurant with its very own cordoned off part of the mt cootha view. Spectacular at sunset might I add. They have a kids menu(under 12s) for $ 17.50 which includes a main(chicken/fish/steak/pasta options) and dessert plus a drink and they also have a Sunset menu for adults(entrée/main/dessert included) for the fetching price of just under $ 40. During the day they have a $ 19.95 lunch menu happening with a choice of 2 courses which I think is fairly reasonable. Book here around sunset, the sunset or normal dinner menu is pretty nice(food is okay) and the view is breathtaking… very romantic for dates, great in the summer evenings for that summer breeze on the balcony and you get to see the sun set close to 7pm. Perfect. Unfortunately we had to wait over an hour for my main and with 2 kids under 5 it was a bit trying. They were apologetic though and didn’t charge me for it which I did appreciate. Service was great and everything else was good too, will be back… hopefully I won’t have to wait as long next time(the place wasn’t even busy). I will give it another go… the crispy skinned barra looks great.

I came to Summit Restaurant with a friend a few months ago and had a fantastic time. It was a mid-week dinner reservation and the restaurant was surprisingly full. My friend made the booking and unfortunately we didn’t get a table near the view of Mt Coot-tha(there’s a sort of slightly self-contained section circling its way around the top of the mountain on one side of the restaurant). Still, what I could see of the city was still nice from the other end of the restaurant so you probably can’t complain about the view, wherever you’re seated. I had a great time here. Big ups to the chef for the medium-rare steak I received: he/she got it just right(REAL medium rare, not medium-posing-as-medium-rare) and the serving was larger than I expected from a more upmarket restaurant. The group of people here was of a larger demographic than I would have expected, too. There weren’t only couples on dates, businessmen and pretty young things going out for a special dinner. There were families, too. Maybe this explains why the people sitting around our table had a grumpy expression on their faces. As I sipped down two glasses of house red wine(fantastic, by the way) I was resisting the urge to tell them to lighten up.(I’m used to seeing depressed expressions on families’ faces dining out but the children seemed pretty well-behaved for the most part, which I assumed to be one of the major causes of grumpy faces in families.) I’ve seen reviews circling the web that are pretty down on this place, and I’m not sure why. My companion(who ordered the same as I did, down to the medium rare) enjoyed his food and wine almost as much as I did. My red wine did go down very well indeed. Or maybe I morphed into a drunk ranter, putting off everyone around me and completely forgot about it afterwards. Or maybe we were lucky in getting the one very friendly server who was working that night. I don’t know. When the meal’s done you can take in Mt Coot-tha if you haven’t over-eaten. What’s not to like?
