I sit here in my work uniform and ponder my unarguable love-hate relationship with this pathetic excuse for a Café. Once again I am here and I loath myself for being fool for the 10000th time by this restaurants red, patterned, irresistible chairs. I could literally write a book about all the terrible experiences I have had here ranging from the never changing terrible quality coffee to the time a waitress handed me a cloth when I asked for a table be wiped down… And yet here I sit. Again. Just now, only moments ago I was told that despite the clearly marked $ 4.10 for a small cappuccino(which is steep) to have it in a take away cup will change the price to $ 4.80!) do I have to pay 70c for the luxury to walk around with my beverage… My small beverage? I know what you are thinking… Such a horrible review but two stars? What is she thinking… Well let me first tell you about these chairs. I want them. More than I want a fridge I want these chairs, they are beautiful and comfortable and high backed, and there is one in at least every franchise because some millionaire somewhere is blowing his nose with money laughing at my inability to stop dining here due to the furnishings. This review can not only be attributed to the indooroopilly franchise either, please think of this as a blanket review for every shingle inn I have ever been to.

On a number of occasions I have found myself sitting back at the Shingle Inn for a bite to eat and a nice coffee. I’m always enticed to enter the Shingle Inn Indooroopilly largely due to the large chairs that just scream, «sit on me». It’s funny isn’t it? So much can be forgiven about a café so long as the seating is spacious and comfortable. This may be the case with the Shingle Inn. To start with the negative, the food at the Shingle Inn in my opinion isn’t that crash hot. A friend and me shared a plate of nachos that really was a little lackluster. You know that frustrating feeling when the salsa and cheese isn’t evenly spread over the corn chips? One might find themself scooping and redistributing the salsa all over the chips and the joy of the meal is totally lost! Perhaps this was a one off however this incident has had a lasting affect on me. The coffee itself is not too bad and perfectly drinkable. Oddly enough I went to the Shingle Inn after a month in Europe and really appreciated how Australians do coffee. In addition the chairs were supremely comfortable, especially after a twenty-hour flight. Try and nab the seats out front of the café as they are the best in my opinion. Overall, the Shingle Inn is a perfectly practical café but it really isn’t something to get too excited about.
