Daily visit to get coffee on way to work is well worthwhile, friendly staff and speedy service and the coffee is pretty fine as well. So go and see Matt and Dave and their staff for your morning caffine fix.

Fact: I like shipping containers. I would buy a shipping container house. Not because they’ve come to be considered a part of our fixation on ‘hipster’ culture, but because I love the idea that something that might otherwise sit rusting is put to a great use. Fact: I’m guilty of never crossing Milton Road when it comes to coffee in Milton and sticking to favourites, Bunker and Odyssey project. Fact: This was a mistake because the coffee brewing at Red Baron’s Milton container(they also have another in Bardon) is strong, easy to drink and, as I experienced on my visit, popular with office workers near by. It was an enjoyable latte and the coffee wasn’t masked and overtaken by the milk. Bonus points. There’s a small amount of seating but the bar bench is at a great height to stand and sip your coffee or whip out your iDevice or laptop for a quick work session. Well played shipping container in an obscure corporate landscape.

Yes, it’s a café in a shipping container. Instant +10 hipster points? But actually, Red Baron is a great little café to stop in to if you ever find yourself in Milton. The coffee is decent, and there is a weekly rotation of single origin blends. There’s also some basic food options available, your standard café-fare of sandwiches and muffins. Seating is limited, but the atmosphere is quirky if you do want to hang around. Perhaps the coolest part — beside the awesome filament bulbs(more hipster points?) — is the zombie apocalypse evacuation trap door to the roof. If the apocalypse ever does happen, my game plan is to high tail it here, grab a coffee, and wait for the whole thing to blow over on the roof.
