I have tried to give Hybla the benefit of the doubt, but after three disappointing visits I don’t think I will be back. The venue is delightful, open and bright with beautiful wooden floors. The chairs are a little on the cheap side but other than that the décor is great. The service and food really lets this new venue down. On one instance we were required to repeat our order three times to the waitress as she was distracted and not listening. The staff can be dismissive and inattentive which is unacceptable a venue of this caliber. The food is fairly expensive and lacks flavor or excitement. I have been disappointed by the accompaniments to the steak and the strangeness of a cold caramel sauce with sticky date pudding.

The Über Blonde and I had ducked South for a few days minus the Engineer. Staying in Denmark we decided to hurl the bikes on the car and cycle around Albany. After spending most of the ride getting lost it was time for lunch. We hit Middleton Beach and cruised for a while before happening on this brand spanker. Beautiful decore, wood everywhere and a funky, uppity bar topped out the downstairs dining room. Well with a view out to the ocean from upstairs — why wouldn’t you lug your bike weary legs up two flights. And worth every step. We had to order at the bar and they would deliver. Interesting but the menu and the wine list were spectacular. We inhaled a couple of Westburger pils as we enjoyed in the glorious view. The menu touched most continents and I settled on the the salad of the day, Pulled Persian Lamb. The stunner across from me ventured the Vegetarian plate. Ah, the wine list. Peeps this is one of the better wine lists I have seen in a long time, with apologies to the Standard. French, Italian, Austrian(really), and of course the local high quality numbers. I chose the Langlois-Château Saumur 2012 from Saint Hilaire-St Florent in western France. A Chenin Blanc style wth lifted herbs and pear and a superb finish — a perfect match with both dishes. The food was with us quite quickly and was a delight. The chickpea pattie was magnificent and spicy, topped with a piquant relish surrounded by lovely tossed greens. Sorry but the Persian Lamb was an absolute winner. Generous pulled lamb in a large perfectly presented salad. A true masters touch — lamb in this style can be hard work but chef has done a brilliant job. Wonderful food. If you are in Albany you need to go.

Wow! What a great new restaurant in Albany that’s situated in Middleton Beach. The restaurant, grill & piano bar opened in October 2014& I think it’s going to be the new trendy, hipster hotspot in Albany. Unfortunately, we missed the lunch menu which finishes at 3 pm but we were able to get a few tasting plates to share. We had smoky buffalo wings, squid, hot wedges & a small deli platter. The duck pâté on the platter was amazing! Just going off the share plates we had today, I’m really hoping to come back to try either breakfast, lunch or dinner sometime. The drinks list was extensive. There are beers on taps and so many different wines to choose from. Great to see so many local WA wines on the list! Coffee, tea and freshly made cakes/muffins also available. The prices were also slightly cheaper too than other competitors close by. The restaurant is an old Queenslander style home that’s had some extensive renovations. There are bike racks out the front, water bowls for the 4 legged guests, disable parking out the back & regular parking in the car park opposite. Many tables & umbrellas out the front for sunny days & lots of tables inside with a fireplace & aircon on those not so sunny days. The upstairs area has tables & chairs as well as a balcony area. Would be great if you were having a function! Definitely looking forward to visiting again!
