Kate’s Place

Ate here for breakfast during our entire stay. Very friendly and accommodating place. The potato pancakes are the real jewel and they gladly replaced the bacon with poached eggs for me.

I will never eat at this place again despite the cute décor and good coffee. A couple of months ago I went for lunch with a mate and asked lots of questions about their food because I have several allergies. I was told what I ordered was safe & the first bite u took I could taste cheese. I stopped eating, took an anti histamine, some ventolin and sat my epi pen on the table.
I asked a waitress who passed by and she said, we do fast food here, everything is frozen & if you’d asked me I would’ve told u there was cheese in it. I couldn’t believe how rude she was. My friend told her it wasn’t good enough and mistakes such as these could result in death. It was a week day and in the afternoon so they weren’t overly busy. She clearly did not care and said it was not her problem.
The waitress who took my order came over and apologised and gave me a refund. It was not the waitress who took my order’s fault. She checked with the kitchen. The waitress who spoke to me after though was rude and didn’t understand the seriousness of the situation. I was disgusted and my friend outraged as he had never seen such ignorance. I use to really love Kate’s but I won’t be going back.
I realise this review is after an experience a couple of months ago but it was before I became a Unilocalian (totally a word… Which I may have just made up!) and I think it’s important for people who have allergies and who have suffered from anaphylaxis, like me, know this is not a safe place for them.
