Four stars for amazingly Melbourne place. For the unique decorations. Super cute and super stylish love the location and use of space. Small space filled up, yet not cluttered. for the friendly and efficient barista. An absolute delight.

Definitely the best coffee in this end of the city. Consistently great, served with a smile. Highly recommended.

A cute little coffee shop on the quieter side of the CBD that packs quite the punch. I first heard of this little shoebox café on a visit to Krimper, when I noticed the guest bean was from a roaster called Rex Tremendae. I had never heard of it before and me being me, I had to search it out. Not even two weeks past before I found the time to pay Rex a visit on a cold, rainy, winters day. I came with a few friends who all wanted to grab a quick take-away milk coffee but I felt like something a little different. $ 4 filter had caught my attention. It’s a rare occurrence to find such a bargain in the city, especially when the coffee come from Think Tank themselves. Roaster Rob had acquired some Ethiopia Kochere from a friend of his and was roasting it to perfection. I was quite content to sit on my little stool, strange ceramic cup of deliciousness cupped in my hands, being rained on as all my friends sat in discomfort. The coffee here is great. I had a pour-over from the same bean just two days earlier from Seven Seeds but that coffee had nothing on Rex. Keep an eye on this little shop. I’m sure their beans will start appearing here and there as they already have started doing. Get in quick so you can go all hipster on it.

Small little space, but awesome coffee and little bites to be had. This includes the pastrami and cheese bagel– great when toasted, and other little cake-y bites. Rex Tremenade is situated down the tourist hotels/daggy end of Flinders lane, near Spencer and is across the road from a huge parking garage. Rex or King, will usually have a big A frame sign out the front announcing it’s presence. Good coffee from an excellent machine, right near a little old fashioned wooden waiting bench thing. Staff are pretty rad. There is some seating outside, it’s usually free, due to very long and continuing queues of office workers and tradies. A good place to have in mind if you’re needing excellent qaulity coffee in the immediate vicinity of southern cross station. Great design, space and branding.

This adorable new hole-in-the-wall coffee shop is a lot of fun. A tiny space with a big grand name, they don’t take themselves too seriously here. They do however take their coffee seriously, about to break into Melbourne with their own roast. As a fledgling business, they’re just getting the basics right at the moment but promise that as they find their feet they will start offering a whole lot more including retail for the beans. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out(and given that their basics are already pretty good, I’m anticipating adding another star in time!) Food wise, just a couple of savoury items and sweet treats like Dr Marty’s crumpets, delicious-looking bagels and slices/cakes. The staff are welcoming and chatty, making it really tempting to perch in front of their machine or on their solitary two-person chair in this ‘standing room only’ style coffee shop. There’s some seating outside too for nice days if you don’t feel like running back to the office. A welcome addition to Melbourne’s bustling coffee scene.

Rob is is a unique blend(sorry for the pun) of roaster and barista. That means coffee geeks can grill him about all sorts of things to do with what they are drinking. The roast is quite light, but copes with both black and white really well. No filter yet… But batch is coming.

Tucked away on Flinders Lane, in between Spencer and King you could easily miss Rex Tremendae. It’s a very small space, smaller than my bathroom at home, and more often than not there is no sign out the front for it. Look for a couple of milk crates sitting outside and duck in through the door for a wonderful little coffee spot. Great coffee, assorted cakes and treats(such as salted popcorn cupcakes and choc peanut butter cookie sandwiches) and very friendly staff make for a winning combination and they do it well here. It’s an interesting setup here with the register sitting behind the coffee machine but it works for the space and it makes it easy to get served and get out easily. With a few coffee options in the same block Rex Tremendae has quickly become my go-to coffee stop for a quick pick me up before heading home in the short week or so they’ve been open. I’ve yet to see it too busy, but with the promise of more delicious treats I can see the small space quickly filling up, and it’s definitely worth stopping in for!
