We’ve had a few casual family meals at Haskins, the restaurant within the North Fitzroy Arms, and have never been disappointed. Although we tend towards eating at the rear of the bar area, near the open fire, the dining room offers separate rooms with tea lights on the table and a slightly pricier menu(although you can still get bar menu items in the dining room). You can’t go wrong with the chicken parma, and the chocolata lava pudding is a killer.

The Fitzroy Arms is a gem of a pub. It is nestled in the back streets of Fitzroy north and serves up delicious home cooked meals. The pub is a little quaint local pub, somewhere to enjoy a couple of drinks and a great meal with friends, which is exactly what I did. We sat in the bar I ordered the beetroot salad with goat cheese balls and walnuts, I have never eaten a salad like that before and it was a taste sensation. My friend ordered the calamari salad which was delicious. I was suprised by the calibre of meals for a pub and will be sure to return. There is the bar area where you can sit with a drink and a meal and watch the sport. They also have formal dining which seats 16 people who can cosy up next to the fire in winter. Out the back is a little courtyard. Spedials include: Tuesday night — T-bone steak for $ 15, Thursday night parma and a pot, Sunday night is roast for $ 15 plus dessert $ 20 before 5pm. Best to check the website for recent changes. This homely pub can cater for events and functions held in the venue. Did I mention the service is excellent and staff very friendly? What’s not to love.
