Oh wow, I want this pub to be my local!!! We came here with friends when visiting Melbourne, and I was shocked to see that it was DEAD at 3.00ish on a Saturday afternoon. The bar staff were super-friendly, and recommended a very good stout to try on this hot day(yes, it was hot when we visited Melbourne, not fair!). The décor is shabby Victorian — absolutely gorgeous! — with a bohemien/hipster feel — we felt right at home here, and were disappointed we couldn’t stay longer. Another one to visit again on our next trip!

A really neat little pub — the beer garden area is pleasant even in winter and the food was a pleasant surprise… I didn’t expect anything in particular but the snacks we tried were great(excellent wedges) and although I didn’t try a full meal, my friends approved.

I come to the Pinnacle often. The food is almost always amazing and is great value for money. The specials menu always has something new to try. The food is hearty, fresh and filling. The entrees are delicious. The staff at the Pini are nice and helpful. I love to come to this place in winter with a book and get a big hot meal and a good beer. The only thing I can fault with this place is the small, poorly arranged, beer garden. It can feel quite claustrophobic when it is busy. There is no view as it is mostly walled-in, although there is a side gate part that I am sure they could open up a bit with windows or something.

We tried the food here following the glowing review in either Broadsheet or Timeout just the other week. I wish I hadn’t. I ordered the steak from the main menu but got the cheaper Tuesday option instead. After pointing out the error I was told they don’t do the main menu steak on Tuesday’s and I got refunded the difference. However over the last 7 years in Melbourne this was the absolutely worst«cheap night» steak I’ve had. It was thin, chewy and not nice tasting. I wasn’t a fan of the ‘potato salad’ and the chips were undercooked. If I hadn’t been so starving I wouldn’t have eat anything. The only good thing I can say was that the waitress was apologetic and I got my money back. I will be back for the beer(selection is awesome) but never food.

I really really like this pub! It seems like a tiny little place jutting out into the intersection between 2 streets yet being really hidden at the same time. However when you look further away from its cone(the part that jutts into the streets) you notice that they also have a back pool room and a lovely beer garden hidden away behind the toilets! Inside it is cozy and homely with a really comfortable feel to it! The bar staff are really really nice and not in the slightest way pretentious, while the beer garden is warmed by those big heaters! The food is excellent and I cant remember having a better chicken parma this year! It comes with a really generous serving of salad and far too many chips to eat!(even for a big pig like me!) The people who go here are friendly and relaxed and most importantly, they are easy to talk to! As someone else has said«This pub is really special, in every sense of the word.» 5 stars!!! This place is the real deal!

Great little pub. Well priced, excellent atmosphere with a decent menu and most importantly, relatively free of the wankery that tends to infect most of Fitzroy. The pretty little beer garden is like an oasis from waxed moustache, cowboy boot sporting douchebags that are all too common around these parts. A great place to meet up with friends, play some pool, or just relax. It’s rare to find the obnoxious types around here, so you can just have a normal conversation and drink away an afternoon quite pleasantly. One of the best the area has to offer.

I love that this pub is my local. My location to this pub could not have worked out better if I had planned it… well I kinda did. This pub has it all, a fabulous beer garden with great live music with resident bands playing funk/jazzy /bluesy stuff Thurs and Sun. Dj’s play Wed, Fr and Sat which means a great atmosphere any night of the week. Awesome menu, including a good selection for vegetarians(the eggplant parmigana is my favourite), the meals are MASSIVE and don’t forget their $ 12 meal specials on Mondays and Tuesdays. Mondays also has $ 12 Boags jugs. Not much more to say, go there, it will speak for itself.

The Pinnacle is awesome! Let me tell you why: * Great architecture — love the corner building design. It looks so regal, standing out from the more modern designs in Fitzroy North. * Great service — love the bartender in the brilliant blue polo — he serves me scotch, and serves it well. STORY: I didn’t know that the bartender at the Pinnacle was also the barista at Mitte and after getting smashed at the Pinnacle one night, the next morning, looking oh so amazing at Mitte, he recognised me and referred to me as the ‘scotch girl’. I guess it’s better than being known as the vodka girl who threw up on the bar? That’s the service you get — they remember you whether you want them to or not. Now let me tell you why it isn’t that great: * The food is average — I wasn’t a fan, but it’s cheap. The Pinnacle has a great vibe, great service, a pool table, and a beer garden — not much else you need.

This place is such a great local. So great, that you want it to be your local. You know, where you go catch up with your old friends while you make new friends. A place to relax and take it slow. The eggplant parma is solid, and the wedges and salad that it comes with is plentiful and delicious. That’s another thing, these guys do good side salads. None of this basic, useless sad tomato and wilted lettuce. They know that we should all have vitamins, and that just focusing on chips ain’t enough. The Pinnacle: doing it’s bit to reverse bad pub meals and heart disease at the same time. Warm and cosy in winter, it beats the winter blues(with a pool cue, which is free on Wednesdays(the pool, not the beating)) and there’s a great beer garden out the back which hosts funky jazz on Sunday afternoons. Hop around here and relax.

This pub is really special, in every sense of the word. It’s truly unique and that’s evident on the approach, and reinforced when you get inside and see that the changes in the neighbourhood haven’t affected the Pinnacle in the slightest. The ramshackle is this pub’s most charming characteristic, and I hope to god nothing about it changes, ever. From the outdoor toilets to the regulars to the fantastic live music that seems to rise out of nowhere, the Pinnacle is unaffected by fashion, style or trend. It’s beyond all of that which means nothing, and that makes it a precious and rare thing in Melbourne today. Long live the Pinnacle!

The Pinnacle at night is a sight to behold. The building itself is an architectural feat. Located on the corner of St Georges Rd and Taplin Street(just past Scotchmer Street) in Fitzroy North, the Pinnacle is a unique looking building. There are good times to be had in the small and intimate front bar with friendly staff, pool table, reasonably priced beers and fun locals. The menu is made up of pub food that I guess you’d describe as being modern Australian. There are a range of burgers to choose at $ 15 each. I went for the Porterhouse which was big and GOOD. They have a number of food specials depending on the night of the week including $ 12 Parmas on Tues and $ 12 steak on Tues. The best thing about the Pinnacle is just how low key it is. In the summer the beer garden is a great spot too.

I heart everything about the Pinn, from its funny little shape to the lumpy pool table, from the outdoor toilet to the the tacky ‘90s corrugated iron garden art. It is decidedly un-designed which is becoming an increasing rarity in Melbourne’s pubs. I first started drinking here when I lived in North Fitzroy back in ’05(just before the rent in the area got completely out of control) and I still go back to have chips and a jug regularly. It really hasn’t changed in the past 6 years, and I hope it never does. In winter it’s snug inside, and in summer the beer garden is shady. There’s nothing fashionable about the Pinn, so you can rock up looking like a street urchin and no one will judge you. The weekend crowds are often a bit big for the small space, so if you want to enjoy this oasis to its fullest then I’d recommend going mid-week. Note — unless you’re an absolute gun, you need at least 3 games to master the valleys and hills on the pool table.

The Fitzroy Pinnacle is another little bastion of sanity in an increasingly messed up world. It has all the trappings of a decent pub; good food, live music, great garden bar, fine selection of tap beers etc, but I fear for its future. The trouble with North Fitzroy is that there are all these fuckin’ middle-class(read: rich and self-absorbed) family/successful types moving into the area and it’s really messin’ with the vibe of the place. Not that these folk have necessarily descended en masse into the Pinnacle per se, but it’s either a matter of time, or it won’t be long before one of these fuckers is trying to shut the joint down over noise. Either way, it’s still pretty good now, so get in there! And they do a nice rotation of Mountain Goat ‘special’ beers… Nice.
