Not my scene this place I guess. The menu is average pub grub but the prices are astronomical especially for the quality. I had a vegetarian risotto special which had little substance besides the not properly cooked rice. Big plate, small serve. $ 19(cheapest thing on the menu by far). Service was not especially friendly although it was Friday night. The music was a live duo which was pretty good but in between was old stuff. Think Gold FM. Clientele was pretty mixed but I guess 30’s-50’s is where they pitch the music. Toilets are upstairs. Incredibly inconvenient. Seating is mostly pub style high benches so no cozy quiet corners, although I think they had larger group booths at the back. There’s just no real plus to this bar and the food was rubbish. I’m certain you’d find much better not far away.

I went here on Saturday afternoon. Started at 3pm. Got shuffled around a little due to previous reserved tables. There was one staff member who made the worse Long Island Ice tea known to man Remainder of staff were competent. Had a good atmosphere & music later on. Definitely go back again.

If you’re looking for a drink in South Wharf, this will get it done. I’d probably venture to the bookends of Boatbuilder’s or the Munich Brauhaus next time myself, but on a stinking hot day Melbourne Public won the ‘coolest air-con in South Wharf’ award from our party and so we set up shop there. Nothing much to rave about — it’s a fairly uninspiring use of the space — but nothing to complain about either, as they had nice beer, friendly staff, and some creative cocktails. I’ve had a few friends warm me that on Fri/Sat nights this is a ‘young crowd’ venue, which I think was probably them telling me I was old more than making a statement about the venue. During the day found it to be perfectly ok.

MP was one of the first bars to open in the now vibrant South Wharf precinct. Owned by a former AFL player you can imagine there is a mild footy theme to the place, don’t hold that against it though. This used to be my local when I lived and worked in the area. It’s always a good night on a Friday with a great mix of people and usually a live band on weekends. The drink prices are pretty standard and good menu has a good cross section of pub dishes and some more complicated numbers. The service here is pretty good(I’m bias they have always looked after me and my work crew) and the team are always happy and up for a chat. Don’t go here expecting gourmet delights or the best in wine lists but for a casual Friday night drink or weekend lunch in the sun on the terrace(has a retractable roof for those rainier days in Melbourne) it’s a winner. As an added bonus they have live performances from some pretty well know bands and performers on a monthly basis

I often forget about this side of the CBD when choosing a venue for an afterwork drink, and to be honest it’s not that convenient for me. However I was in the area and thought I’d give it a try. Being a warn evening the out doors area was a welcomed friend. Can get fairly busy but the staff were very fast and attentive. Overall a great venue.

Great location and a recently re-vamped venue. Packed on a Friday night, live music, impressive bar, and some fantastic bar snacks. The sliders were delicious, the chips perfectly cooked and the calamari also extremely tasty. I was visiting as the guest of someone else, so I’m not sure what the prices are like, but they did have a wide selection of wines and champagnes, and others were raving about the mojitos.
