seemed like a gd idea at the time… and we didn’t feel like anything heavy. the staff were Viet so thought what the heck. ordered the large Phở Tai(rare beef). which was more like a medium… oh there’s only a small and large size no medium. the soup base is high in aniseed and salty. It seems to be missing something else but can’t really put a finger on it. Almost westernised? It was edible however but IMHO not to same level as Richmond Springvale or Footscray. anyway thought I’d share my 2cents worth. WIR? Nah there are much better options

This is probably in the most unlikely location of all time, beside the convention centre and tucked down an alley at the back entrance to DFO. But guess what? It’s a winner and certainly worth a visit before/during a shopping expedition. Huge portions of Phở get served out of the kitchen, but I opted for a punchy lemongrass beef salad with vermicelli. It’s was gigantic, with a side dish of dressing that had plenty of pickled carrot floating on top and lots of vegetables inside the bowl along with the beef. There was enough heat in the entire dish that I didn’t need to load up on extra chilli sauce as I normally would, and this was soothed by the help yourself water and green tea. Although the environment is stark, it’s a pleasant enough spot to sit for 15 minutes while you stuff yourself full of noodles. The alternative for a quick and cheap lunch is downstairs inside DFO and I always find anything that remotely resembles a foodcourt depressing so this is now my must-visit when I’m in the area shopping.

We came here for lunch after seeing a few of their ads around the DFO. We were pleasantly surprised by the phở that was served here as we’ve usually come across good phở in the ethnic enclaves. This is a self-service place where you order at the counter and pick up everything(utensils, sauces, tea, napkins and even the garnishes) after you’ve paid and given a number. There was also a daily special of Hainanese chicken rice when I was there but we stuck with the phở. The phở came out was piping hot and tasted just right. This place is a hidden gem for food when you are hungry after a long shopping trip at DFO.
