I have been here a few times now and have never been disappointed. The menu has a large variety and the service is friendly and efficient. There is also a vast selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages to enjoy.

4 — star for lunch: Bento boxes have a great price to quality ratio. Definitely a great place for lunch. 3 — star for dinner: Prices are much higher for dinner, which is expected and accepted. This place used to be 4 star for their sushi/sashimi but of lately the raw salmon quality and texture has been reduced and the rolls are not as ‘epic’ as previous times. Waiting staff have also been somewhat ‘skattered’ over our last several visits. Not providing dishes, chop-sticks, napkins etc unless asked, and also having to wave your arms to get attention. Staff also failed to notify us one time when they were unable to accept credit card. Understandable technology sometimes has problems, but it is important to notify your customers. This place definitely has the potential of getting it’s 4 stars back if the fish quality improves.

Oh Fujiyama, your Sushi Rolls are an explosion of heaven in my mouth. Especially the baked Salmon Roll. It’s one of the strongest reasons I have against being completely vegetarian or vegan. If you like spice, add some Sriracha Sauce and you’ll be nearing foodgasm. It’s so hard to find American Style(hot/baked/cooked) Sushi Rolls in Sydney and Fujiyama certainly delivers. Their sashimi is always so wonderfully fresh as are the salads. I’ve only ever gone at lunchtime and the service then has always been exceptional. The only thing stopping me from giving them five stars is that their bento boxes are lack lustre compared to Higashi just up the road and they have tofu kimchi listed in the takeaway menu but it’s no longer available. You simply cannot tease someone with tofu kimchi and not provide!

I took some friends to this restaurant last night. As usual, the food is still fantastic however I’m not sure what has happened to the service since my previous visits. The only thing I noticed was that the wait staff seemed less attentive than they used to be. We sat down at our reserved balcony table, shortly after we noticed the table besides us had left. I think this was because of the meal although some of my friends suggested it was because of us — who knows. :P The remnants of their meals strewn across the table stayed there until we were about to leave. It was not like they were extremely busy either. To add to this we had to stand and wave our arms around in order to get the attention of the waitresses. They were lovely and polite etc, just didn’t check on us or even see us attempting to get their attention more subtly. I left the food until last so I can end on a more positive note. AMAZING — AGAIN! We enjoyed the delights of soft-shell crab salad, sashimi/sushi plater and I never come to this place without ordering their baked salmon roll(DEVINE). The sushi/sashimi here is always fresh and delicious, soft shelled crab is great and you all know what I think of their Baked Salmon Roll! mmm We all left with full bellies but still heading for Bar Italia for a yummy gelato for dessert. Grand Total, $ 17 each, no tip tonight. I’m still a fan but think they can work on checking the tables more often.

I was working at the Video store until 9pm and when I finished I decided that seeing as I’d just earned some money, it was only fair that I be allowed to spend it. So I treated myself to some takeaway for a late Sunday dinner. I’d often been to the Thai and Indian places for my well deserved late in the evening meal, so tonight I thought I’d go to Fujiyama’s, the new(ish) Japanese Restaurant on Norton Street. I entered through the balcony eating area, which always seems to be full, went up to the counter and picked up a menu. I read through the dining options but in the back of my mind I always knew what I was going to eat. It had to be the Bento Box, that classic Japanese dish. An assortment of fine foods separated by barricades all inside a box. I looked around the classy joint as I awaited my order. Other people came in and picked up their pre-ordered meals. I wandered around and read newspapers that had been left on the various inside tables. Then finally, my food was ready. I picked up some chopsticks and a serviette and made my way home. I turned on the tele, I opened the box and I tucked in. Japanese food is always a little bit expensive, I find. But it is always good and I am seldom disappointed. This was no exception. Yummo. (Editors Note: Yummo?)(Seaton’s Note: Do you have a problem with Yummo? The food was Yummo.)(Editors Note: You’re an embarrassment.)(Seaton’s Note: I just want love.)

I have been to Fujiyama on several occasions and so far I have never been disappointed. The service is great and the food is extremely good. They have both cold sushi and sashimi and a selection of hot dishes. The tempura is one of the best I have tried and even although it isn’t listed as a main meal, I often ask for it as a main and they oblige. The atmosphere is great although the tables are very close together. You can hear what your neighbours are going to eat and who they are arguing with at work. There’s very little privacy as the sound bounces around on the hard surfaces. A meal for two can cost as little as $ 30 but two entrees and two mains with a pot of green tea will set you back just $ 49(depending upon what you choose). They bring a pot and just keep filling it up. They have a menu of all the basics and a number of outstanding specialty dishes. The service is quick even though there can be problems with language — the young Japanese girls often have problems with accents. They are licensed and have reasonable corkage. I wouldn’t want to take a large group there but for six people or less it’s great.
