I went there with friends for a 10am breakfast on a Saturday morning. We had a reservation and they sat us at a big wooden communal table with big heavy wooden stools. Bit hard to get up on but I loved the table and it was comfortable once I was finally seated properly lol. Service was good but I saw the waitress’ friendly face change a bit when I asked to cancel my iced latte and change it to a hot soy latte and my friend asked to have his iced latte changed to iced soy latte. The order hasn’t even been fully confirmed yet and the paper wasn’t given to the chef so I don’t know why it would be a problem. But anyways she put on a smile, said thanks and hurried away. Few minutes later, another girl came to take our food orders and I asked for eggs benedict and if I could have extra hollandaise sauce with it. She said no problem and went off with our orders. Food came about 15 mins later, I liked it. But the poached eggs were undercooked. It was literally leaking water onto the sourdough toast. And another thing, I just think, personally, that there should be two slices of toast if it’s thinly sliced. My own preference perhaps? So we finished our meals and had to go settle the bill in person at the counter as they don’t print out bills(?). Fair enough but if we want to look at the bill first before going up there to pay and possibly holding up the line if we’re looking at the charges more closely, they don’t give you that chance. What are we supposed to do if there’s a group and with multiple orders? Stand there checking over the bill and have people wait behind us for their turn? Anyways, it turns out the extra hollandaise I asked for in my benedict? Well, they charged me $ 3 for it. A side blob of hollandaise for $ 3??! Firstly, the waitress did NOT tell me there was an extra charge and secondly, again with the argument that you have to settle the bill on the spot which doesn’t give you much time to look over the charges till after you’ve paid for it. So, overall, it was a beautiful venue with wonderful views of the water, situated near the story bridge. Food was good. Service was average.

This place is a hidden gem. Right on the river with relaxing views and plenty of sun. I love enjoying my coffee out on the deck with plenty of seating. Perfect after a morning run. Icing on top — food is GOOD! Next meal there will be posting.

Medley Café & Restaurant is one of my top picks for breathtaking river views & views of the Story Bridge, while enjoying delicious food & coffee with friends. This modern café & restaurant resides in the same area of the heritage listed Yungaba bulilding; Yungaba meaning«welcome» or «land of the sun» in indigenous language. This building not only welcomed & housed new migrants from 1887, it was also a military hospital, it housed the homeless & it was a reception centre, post World War 2. This place is all about fresh locally sourced food with a seasonal menu. As the co owners have a Greek heritage, & the chef has a French background with influences in European, North African, Asian, Pacific Island food. This café truly represents world food; food full of love & flavours. I decided to order the Catalan Baked eggs $ 18.90, baked in Piperade(which is a combination of onion, capsicum, tomatoes & herbs) & chorizo, served with thyme, olive oil infused sourdough. This dish is one the best baked eggs dishes I’ve tried, if not the best. It has so much flavour, I nearly licked the bowl. I loved it. I only wished it came with 2 pieces of sourdough so I could’ve mopped up the rest of the sauce. This breakfast went well with their freshly squeezed orange juice. After breakfast, I ordered a lemon meringue with some Earl Grey tea, as well as a long macchiato. The Clean Skin blend was delicious. Service is very important for us, and the service here is amazing! Apart from the beautiful views, and the fact that I want to come back to try the lunch and dinner(not all on one day of course!); the service is what makes me want to return even more.
