Fusion Hot Yoga

I walked in Fusion Yoga while I was in Brisbane.
Until now I wasn’t a big fan of hot yoga but the heat wasn’t bad at all. I felt like I was sweating because I was working out, not because of the heat.
I got a 10day class pass, which allowed me to try out
several different classes. I enjoyed all of them. Every class was exactly what I expected.
All the staff were super friendly and welcoming.
Next time I’m in Brisbane, I will definately go back .
It was the best Yoga studio I have ever been to.

It’s a small and cozy yoga studio, and I felt welcome from the first day I walked in. After trying bikram yoga, which was way too hot for me, I decided to give hot yoga a go. The temperature is actually quite comfortable, never feel like I’m dying as I did during my bikram yoga class.
So far I’ve had classes with 3 different teachers and I have to say I like all of them! They all cater to the different levels in the class and motivate me to get most out of myself. After practice you will feel your muscles! (especially the ones you didn’t know you had)

These were but a few thoughts running through my mind as I signed up for my $ 25 7-​day intro pass to Fusion Hot Yoga. I’d pre-​booked my class online (bonus points) and arrived a little early for yesterday’s 9:30am class. I’d heard from a few people that with back issues and such, hot yoga gave you extra support and allowed you to «go deeper» into poses for a better stretch.
Fusion wasn’t like past hot yoga experiences I’ve had. For one, it’s probably a lot cooler than most at about 30degrees. Even I, the person most likely to complain about heat and humidity, found it to be gentle and not suffocating — even in the middle of my umpteenth downward dog in this 90min power session. It definitely was a heat that let me stretch deeper and feel like something was warmly hugging me rather than suffocating me.
Don’t be fooled. Combined with the heat, this yoga class is cardio x 3 and today, as I write this, I know I’ve worked out and have muscles I’ve not used in quiet some time. Plus, my skin is glowing.
Our teacher, Trent, was accommodating to my newbie status and helped out with alternative poses when it was clear I was struggling (go having a wonky back!). As others have said, it is a concrete floor, which even with my mat (borrowed from the studio), I found to be a bit uncomfortable for my situation at times.
There were only 8 (including myself) in the class and not once did it feel like I had to be better than the other yogis in the room. I felt entirely comfortable to go at my own pace and trust my own limits. There were times I starred at the door, hatching an escape plan without disturbing the rest of the class, and then there were times of extreme calm and peace as I felt a lot of stresses wash away.
Truth be told, I’d sworn it off as an exercise not for me. But 24 hours later, as I write this review, I’ll admit I kind of liked it and might just be back!

I will start this review with a disclaimer that I am a huge fan of Ashtanga style yoga and have practised everything from a very gentle hatha to the strict regimen of Bikram. I am not a yogi or a teacher but I do have a very particular type of yoga that I enjoy.
I have only attended one of the Sunday $ 5 courses at Fusion Hot Yoga and going into a «hot yoga» studio really turned me off to begin with. I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here.
The good:
— The Instructor was really good and the yoga class catered to all levels.
— The heat was not «hot» like a bikram class and really opened up my hamstrings and made me feel more flexible than in a regular class.
— They have a $ 25 intro pass for 14 days unlimited. I will be signing up for this next Monday and testing out the other class styles and instructors.
The bad:
— The floor is concrete and really hurt my sit bones even on a mat. I use a lululemon mat and it did not stick to the ground at all. I felt like in order to enjoy a class in this studio you really need a super sticky mat so you dont slide around.
— There is only one room and only one mirror. I personally like being able to check my posture against multiple mirrors.
— There are not many classes available for the regular 9−5-ers with my favorite style being completely inaccessible due to my work schedule.
I will give them 3 stars for now and will update after the 2 week trial.

While for many the concept of hot yoga is synonymous with its most prominent exponent, Bikram, but there are various other schools which utilise the benefits of the heated room while not being part of the Bikram franchise. Fusion Hot Yoga is one such example.
I tried out these guys’ introductory offer prior to trying the (in)famous Bikram, and it successfully piqued my interest in the concept of yoga in a heated room. The class was challenging, featuring a number of the same poses as Bikram put ultimately less intense due to its shorter length (the beginners’ class is a merciful 60 minutes and they release the heat intermittently with extractor fans). However, they do offer a broad range of classes from ‘Beginners’ to ‘Open to all levels’, with some running the full ‘Bikram’ 90 minutes.
They do have it over Bikram in at least one respect, with their introductory offer giving 14 consecutive days of unlimited use, as opposed to Bikram’s seven.
