I can not fault Finlay and Sons. Great coffee, great menu, great service! I come here for coffee regularly, sometimes with the mother’s group, sometimes with my family. The coffee is always good here. I love their chrome ceramic water jugs and pretty vintage teaspoons. Although the menu is a bit pricier than nearby Secondeli, they are spot on with taste! The duck crepes are top notch tasty! The squid salad my friend ordered was also apparently very good! My recent spinach and pumpkin savoury muffin served with butter was a very nice light snack, so nice my 6 month old son took a huge bite of it just as I was putting a bit in my mouth! There is room for Mother’s and prams outside. I’ve never been able to sit inside though, there is definitely no room for us inside! Service friendly and I’ve never had a problem with timing there.

I have only tried breakfast here on 1 occasion and I went with thick cut bacon and poached eggs which was really tasty and the bacon was also a first for me which I thought might be a bit overwhelming with how thick it was but it was tender and juicy and not over the top at all. Coffee was great and even got a second to take home. The only thing that could change would be the bread that came with the breakfast. I found it really crusty and hard to eat which didn’t compliment the bacon or eggs! Great coffee though with a cute separate take away window.

This place has one of the most biggest portions I have ever seen for breakfast. I think their motto might be «go hard or go home». My companion and I ordered 2 dishes for breakfast and 2 drinks. The amount of food plated up on one plate could serve 2(I think, don’t hold it against me). It is well priced for the amount of food though. I did walk in expecting the same prices in Inglewood as other cafes since the suburb is in competition with their fellow hipster neighbor Mt Lawley. But what they charge in prices they make up with a heap amount of food. So I recommend people with small appetites share a meal. If not, they have doggy bags to take home. Service was exceptional, we were greeted on a weekday morning straight away by a lovely waitress even though there was already a fair few people in the dining space. Drinks arrived fast and food followed shortly after. Food was fresh and done well. Combinations worked perfectly! Just be prepared for the size portion. Be prepared to wait on a busy weekend morning which is to be expected as it is in a prime street corner location on a busy strip of Beaufort Street in Inglewood. Décor is nothing to rave about, typical hipster look with outdoor seating available also. Counter makes up for everything as it was filled with sweets and baked goods. Since food portion was so large I have yet to try their counter goods. I will return to make an effort one day, maybe after a hard gym session when I’m starving like a famished person.

I’m cross at myself for losing the picture of Perth’s sloppiest breakfast served on a plate. I would not feed my dog what finlay and sons served me two months ago. I ordered an asparagus breakfast with poached eggs and a few other sides. Other then the fact it came with no toast the eggs were stripped of the white and had skid marked all over the plate with about 3 measly pieces of asparagus and some other sides for about $ 20. The coffee tasted like a creature had died in the desert and the vultures wouldn’t consume it. NEVERAGAIN. The only consolation is that it will never be as repulsive as zeos in mt lawley.

Coffee and food delicious! We had a lovely Sunday brunch here last weekend and it was just perfect the morning after a friends wedding. Staff were lovely. Only downside was it was pretty noisy with bare walls, floors and ceiling. Not ideal after one two many champagnes the night before. Still, the coffee kicked in pretty quick and the fit out does look fab! Will definitly have to go back to try out their cakes — they looked delicious

Brunch is my fave thing to do in a weekend morning. This place has caught my eye a few times whilst driving down Beaufort and I finally Got the pleasure of eating here this past weekend. Watermelon and mint fruit juice to get me started followed by their panacotta with passionfruit, mango and strawberries. Now what they didn’t mention on their menu was that the panacotta had amaretto in it. I was pleasantly delighted when I first took a spoonful as I love amaretto, my friend on the other hand, not so happy as she hates it. They may have to mention it as to not upset any other person who might not be too pleased with the taste For me, the fruity delight was delicious. Some of my fave flavors in one dish. Then my friend got the waffles with coffee mascarpone and maple glazed bananas which he had to share as the portion size was pretty big. Was unbelievably wicked good. Very pleasant spot and lovely décor. Loved it.

Lovely staff, beautiful and clean décor. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast. We were seated immediately and the food came really quickly. I ordered a soy chai which was lovely and the vanilla muesli, I really enjoyed this, it was light, fresh and really delicious. I will definitely be coming back to try more on the menu.

Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, the whole menu looks great and it was hard to decide. My friend got a simple green breakfast and I opted for the crumbed chicken with bacon, spinach and soft eggs. I think this dish should come with a warning that it could feed a family of four. Massive! But none the less delicious. My friend said the coffee was one of the best and my banana smoothie was fab!

Now I can see why it is always so busy! Great menu with lads of exotic breakfast and brunch choices, staff were pretty average although the guy making coffee was friendly and knew what he was doing. Salmon Taco was absolutely delish packed with flavoursome salmon and fresh vegetables. Juice was nice, yet to try the coffee but I love the hole in the walk coffee area set up as well as the café. Worth the wait for the table!

Comfortable setting with attentive and quick service. I fell in love with the asparagus which was part of the green brekkie(all of which was delicious). My fiancé also struggled to finish the yummy goats cheese omelette. Will definitely be going again

Tasty coffee, friendly staff and quick service. Finlay & Sons is one of my new faves. its close to work and depending when you go you can get a seat pretty easy as they have a few large tables Only been for coffee and breakfast but all the times I have gone I have enjoyed myself. Pricing is pretty good and the décor is nice and open

First time here. Saw that these guys are about quality and have great vibe going on. I asked for«what ever the barista wants to make me» — I got a cap. Loved it. I would not have ordered one. Absolutely the best Capp I’ve had.

They’ve only been open a few months, yet Finlay & Sons have already changed their menu. That’s a bummer as I was hankering for the mushroom and goats cheese baguette and it’s no longer on the menu. It’s been replaced by a mushroom fondue. Now I like a good old fondue in winter or when I’m holidays in Switzerland, but on a 34 degree day in Perth it is just about the last thing I would order. Friday lunch time was unusually quiet. It was stinking hot and maybe folks had stayed home where it was cooler. I couldn’t find anything savoury on the menu to tempt me, and finally chose the French toast with mascarpone and vanilla syrup, something I wouldn’t ordinarily choose for lunch. The presentation of the dish was beautiful, though the toast wasn’t soggy all the way through as I like it, and the blobs of mascarpone were a bit stingy. Plenty of syrup though, and overall it was a pleasant enough dish without being anything special. My latte wasn’t hot enough or strong enough, and that was the same when I popped in a few weeks ago for an afternoon snack. The service here is really friendly and efficient, and I love the décor with the rose gold lampshades, exposed brick, distressed timber tables, fresh flowers and pots of greenery. There is a good selection of cakes and sweet treats too, and the slice of gluten free carrot cake I had a few weeks ago was really good, with ample cream cheese icing. I love that you are given a jug of water as soon as you are seated, and that there is a mix of indoor and outdoor seats to choose from. On this hot Friday though, some air con would have been a very welcome respite from the heat, but at midday the windows were wide open, and it was damn hot. Whew! I’d hope they would crank up the air con in a week or so, otherwise mornings look like being the only comfortable time to visit.

Service was superb by everyone not just one person, food… so much choice! My veggie breakfast… asparagus was the best, the omelette so tasty, next time! So next time do I get the savory or the sweet?

Though still relatively in it’s infancy, Finlay & Sons was really quite busy. We managed to snag the last table available which was outside in the lovely sun, though probably was too small for three of us — there was definitely some tetris action happening when our plates came out. The appeal of fresh juice tugged at my heartstrings momentarily as I stared at the menu, but in the end I gave in to the sinful lure of a strawberry milkshake instead($ 6.00). When it came out to the table I have to admit I had a little pang of regret — that bright pink colour definitely meant this was a fake sugar syrup instead of the real deal. It was light and milky(I tend to prefer them on the thicker side), and just a touch too sweet for me. One of my friend’s banana smoothie($ 8.00) left me in a state of drink envy, it was definitely the winner of the two. Smooth, cold and packed full of banana, honey and milk flavour. I did find the whole walnuts floating at the bottom a bit of a strange decision, it felt a bit irrelevant. The food at this café is simple and the prices are comparable to other places of a similar style and calibre. I’m not a person who loves food presented on a board(it never photographs well I swear!), but at least the boards here are large enough for items not to be falling off. One friend’s croque monsieur($ 13.00) was an open faced version of the classic French toasted sandwich, with pastrami, brie and truffle oil on top. I couldn’t help but laugh that we all had a generous sprinkling of sprouts on top since I’m the only one of us who likes them — but I was happy to take them off their hands. This dish is apparently one of the café’s most popular, and reports back was that it tasted great — the pastrami was a nice point of difference, and the gooey cheese on top made for decadent bites. I think that the truffle oil, while tasty, probably shouldn’t have been atop the dish, rather on the bread to soak in — it would have made the dish a little less greasy on the surface. Both myself and my other friend ordered the goats curd baguette with roasted mushrooms($ 19.00). I chose a side of the smashed avocado with yoghurt($ 4.00) and she added on a poached egg($ 3.00) which was perfectly gooey when she cut into it. The presentation of the dish wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but I enjoyed this dish — there was a nice selection of different mushrooms which had been cooked well, offering a little resistance still to each bite. Shavings of sharp parmesan were mixed up with the spinach leaves and sprouts on the board. The goats curd had been spread onto the baguette and toasted together, offering that lovely fluffiness that comes with cooking this type of cheese. I was really happy I ordered that side of avocado which was again not what I was expecting but in the best kind of way. It was creamy, smooth — almost like a guacamole but without the citrus kick. So yummy! I happily spread it over each slice of bread before piling up my mushrooms to get bites of it all together. It was a filling dish, and wholly satisfying. Since I am a ridiculously slow eater and the girls had powered through their meals, one friend ran inside to check out their dessert offerings. She is probably the biggest Nutella fiend I know, so when she ordered the Nutella cronut with strawberries I wasn’t surprised. I was disappointed for her though when she reported back that it didn’t have any trace of the hazelnut spread flavour, instead it was more like chocolate icing instead. You definitely don’t want to get between my best friend and her beloved condiment! All in all, I thought Finlay & Sons was a nice café. I’m glad we sat outside since the interior was so crowded and cramped, especially because it was such a lovely sunny day. While there were some things that didn’t hit the mark, I thought the main food itself was tasty and I definitely was inspired by that unique avocado side dish, which I think I’ll be replicating at home!

I must say I was very impressed with Finlay and Sons as soon as we walked in the door. First impressions are everything and the warm welcome we received did not go unnoticed. The décor and the colours are aesthetically pleasing and there are so many items that catch your eye. The Rose gold lamps are beautiful and the vintage touches are interesting. The coffee to go window is highlighted in a lovely sea foam colour. Bright, shiny water pitchers and planters add a touch of bling! Even the coffee spoons are interesting. Although, we were there in the morning, I chose one of the dishes which most people would not even consider having for breakfast! The beauty of this place is that most of the dishes are available throughout the day. I had the sticky pork ribs with potato and apple slaw and it was a winner! The sticky sweetness of the tender pork was nicely evened out by the apple slaw. It was a very generous serve, so I made a feeble offer to share and was secretly overjoyed when my friend refused. Hey, more for me! I had a lovely macchiato to round of my meal but sadly had no room for sweets. There is always next time! The staff were wonderful, offering advice with the menu when requested. Matt, the barista is more than just a pretty face. His cheery smile and ‘can do’ attitude are a definite asset to this lovely café. I absolutely loved every moment I was there and am looking forward to the next time!

Finlay & Sons no 917 is the latest café to hit Beaufort Street in Inglewood, and it’s certainly making an impact after only three weeks. We noted that they open at 7:30am for coffee but the kitchen doesn’t start for thirty minutes, so we arrived right on 8am Saturday to find it just about full. They’ve managed to squeeze a lot of tables inside, and there are tables outside and some shared seating, but it’s worth noting that it’s pretty cramped. By the time we left, all of the tables were well and truly taken and there was a queue forming outside. it seems to have taken quite a bit of business from the usually-busy Mia Café just a few doors down, which looked decidedly quiet. Coffee is from Perth-based Twin Peaks Coffee Roasters, mine was a long macchiato. It was okay, nothing to get excited about. There was a cute spoon from Tennant Creek. I ordered some simple scrambled eggs on sourdough($ 11) with a slab of thick cut bacon on the side($ 5), and as «simple» bacon and eggs go, this is about as good as it gets. My favourite scrambled eggs in Perth have traditionally been from Cantina 663, and these were just as good. I wish I could make eggs like this at home. The thick cut bacon was perfectly cooked, and this dish was a great example of letting quality ingredients shine. Yum. There isn’t a huge selection of items on the breakfast menu, hence my choice of bacon & eggs(not that I regretted it). Other choices include apple bircher muesli($ 11), croque monsieur with pastrami & brie(I noticed this was actually open-faced — $ 13), baked beans & eggs with truffle oil & baguette($ 14.50) and waffle with marscapone & caramelised banana(available in three sizes, $ 9 /$ 11 /$ 13). The only extras to add to your eggs are bacon($ 5), salmon($ 6), mashed avocado($ 4), or beans($ 4). Something potato-based would be a great addition(hint hint). The breakfast items are available all day, as are the lunch items, although for the purposes of this review I’m assuming you don’t want grilled squid with chorizo & quinoa($ 18) for breakfast. I certainly don’t. Renay ordered the goats curd toasted baguette with roasted mushrooms($ 19) which looked spectacular and didn’t disappoint — much like my bacon & eggs, this dish was all about letting the ingredients speak for themselves. Definitely not your standard mushroom dish, but she really enjoyed it. I found the goats curd very strong and it’s not something I would eat for breakfast, but that’s just my personal taste. We’re keen to go back to Finlay & Sons no 917, even if just to have the scrambled eggs again, although I think we’ll wait for the fuss to die down — we had a very similar experience at Chu Bakery immediately after this breakfast. If you’re able to get there at a non-peak time, or don’t mind waiting /sharing /squeezing into a table then it’s worth checking out as soon as you can get there.

Food and coffee was decent. Parking out the back. Felt there was too many tables in the relatively small space, resulting in waitresses and customers bumping chairs and each other, and sitting super close to each other. Got potential, maybe take a table or two out.

I expected that being a new establishment they would be busy. But although I didn’t wait long my poached eggs came out over cooked and hard and the avocado smash was terrible, way too much yogurt and very little avo. Pretty much tasted like natural yoghurt on my toast. On a good note the coffee was nice and the customer service was great too. They took the constructive criticism onboard so I really hope things improve, it’s just what the area needs.

Lovely! Welcoming! Reasonable! Warm & inviting. Just a lovely welcoming café new to Inglewood. Just opened today for its first service and absolutely a warm first experience. Husband and wife team on deck with family on the floor. Yummy and reasonably priced good food(try the croque monsieur– to die for!). Makes for a nice change from some of the overpriced cafes on Beaufort St. Looking forward to coming back and sampling more of their all day menu. Spoke to the owner and he is excited about being part of the Inglewood community. Lovely cutout and décor throughout. Do yourself a favour and support this local business. You want be disappointed. Awesome customer service
