The IXL long bar is really nice but fairly small bar off the foyer of the Henry Jones Art Hotel. This is a pretty classy stop that sometimes has live jazz and has a well stocked bar. I haven’t sampled the cocktails yet, but have heard they know what they are doing in this regard as well.

The only reason IXL Long Bar doesn’t get five stars from me is because of its all-too-brief opening hours. Why would you close at 10:30pm, darlings? It’s only been dark for an hour and a half in the summer and I just want to drink the night away with some stupendously good cocktails and some beautiful live piano tunes while I sit on this ridiculously comfortable bar stool and watch these charming bartenders work their magic.

This restaurant is located in the back of the foyer of the Henry Jones Art Hotel; a beautiful hotel on Hobart’s Waterfront. It is run by decorated chefs that know what they are doing and I have found every meal I have had in this place to be nothing short of exceptional. The menu is updated quite frequently and usually consists of contemporary flavours. A highlight of mine would be the Mount Gnomon Pork Belly. The bar is also a great place to meet with friends or have a drink before dinner. The beer and wine selection is extensive with a focus on local wines and local, interstate and international craft beers. The cocktail menu is also rather extensive and features some absolute classics right through to inventions of the bar staff that I have been blown away by. As you would expect in a five-star hotel, service is impeccable and the staff are always knowledgeable and friendly.

The lads behind this bar hidden on the bottom level of the Henry Jones Art Hotel definitely know their stuff. Try their Whisky Sour, made the traditional way with an egg white. Or if you prefer something lighter, the mule is just as good. And nothing beats the smoked ocean trout. In a word: divine. You won’t be disappointed.
