We were staying at the Stanford grand in Adelaide and had breakfast here Saturday morning. Staff were friends and accommodated our request for a quick, breakie even though it wasn’t technically on the menu. We had coffee and croissants. Delicious and great deal for $ 10. Coffee was nice.

The Promenade was our selection for a special Birthday night out for our little one with allergies as we have had lots of memorable occasions here and the Seafood Buffet was great value for kids. The result was a fabulous night out, the staff were very attentive to our allergies and made a special meal for our little one(even though she was still able to pick from the buffet and ate her share of prawns). The rest of us enjoyed a tasty spread, our favourites were the very fresh salads, succulent prawns, crab and oysters, a smooth Butter Chicken curry. The wide selections of deserts nicely finished off the night.

Had lunch there. Service disorganised and slow. Food okay but not worth the money. Nice views overlooking St. Vincent Gulf. Not sure I would return in a hurry — the restaurant needs a complete staff re-fit or re-education!

I really loved this buffet restaurant, even though it was pricey it was worth every cent. Walked in from the cold outside and could really feel the warmth of the place, maybe cause it had that old school feel about it. Went to grab my plate and the first thing my eyes saw was the oysters, I love seafood so I didn’t try anything else but oysters, prawns and baby octopus, so I couldn’t tell you much about the other food but the seafood was top notch stuff. All the other foods looked 5 star, but my mind was already set. I gave this a 5 star because we were there with 2 other families and all together we had about 15 people all up 10 of them were kids, and the place is really kid friendly and the service was excellent, also we went in at 7:30 and left around 9:30−10, most buffet restaurants they try to shoo you out after the first hour like walkers arms. I really enjoyed my food and the warm friendly service we got from this place food 9⁄10 and service 10⁄10

One of life’s pleasures is an indulgent high tea. How about a Guinness World Record breaking attempt high tea, with 549 other guests, al fresco, on Glenelg pier? Who would dream up such a thing? The Stamford Grand as it turns out. With no advertising, the event sold out within 2 weeks. Sun shining and sea breeze blowing, we signed the Guinness World Record register for the World’s Longest Cream Tea, found our seats, and were offered a glass of Jacobs Creek bubbles. Everyone was jolly, despite the increasing sea gusts, as we were all in it to support Novita Children’s Services. We were dutifully informed that there was a contingency of Guinness World Record officials monitoring our every move. The defining act — taking at least one sip of tea and eating at least one bite of scone each — to secure the record. A tantalising glimpse at the menu tempted us as we sipped bubbly and were offered refills of our tea by a smiling steward. Before too long, and surprisingly quick given the huge amount of people to cater for, a two tier stand arrived laden with sandwiches, hot savouries including the Stamford Grand’s signature curry(chicken) puff and tandoori chicken skewers, scones, and teeny cakes. There were fruit tarts, banana cake squares, mixed berry mouse, and mango pavlova’s. Awaiting a special meal(vegetarian) I was informed that I would get my very own plate. Well given the chill wind I couldn’t wait and did my bit for the Guinness World Record and sampled the scones and other sweets. The scones were perfectly warm and short, accompanied with a variety of jams and whipped cream. My favourite sweet was the fruit tart with lovely pastry, custard and glazed fruit. Having been marked off the register for the Record, my individual vegetarian plate arrived. It is most impressive that dietary considerations are accommodated for such a large scale event. Plus everything on the plate was delicious! A vegie skewer of barbequed veg had nice smokey and sweet flavour, there was a tasty samosa, finger sandwiches including pesto sun dried veg, guacamole, and salad, a piece of orange syrup cake, and carrot & walnut cake. It was at about this point that a particularly gusty burl of wind air lifted my mother in law’s hat and sent it soaring effortlessly across the jetty onto the beach below. Justin Higgins, General Manager of the Stamford Grand shouted«I’ll get it!» and so he did, collecting some sir lifted napkins and glasses at the same time. We had the opportunity to ask if the long high tea would happen again, and all signs point to yes due to the success. As the weather was closing in, once we had supped on the delicious goodies, we took to the promenade back along the jetty. Smiling staff, as on arrival, farewelled us, welcomed us back soon, and told us that if the world record bid was successful, that we could expect our certificates in the mail.

The Promenade is part of the Stamford Grand hotel, and is their showcase restaurant. As you would expect, the food quality is impeccable, and the service keeps to the same exacting standard. I had an entrée of pan seared scallops with a lime butter, and they were absolutely divine. No surprise to anyone who’s read my reviews, I had the duck for a main — it was a glorious serving of roasted peking duck, with a red curry sauce, with stunning flavours of ginger and coriander. My wife and I shared the dessert tasting plate because we were spoiled for choice with the desserts — on that example, when I return, I’ll be taking a lemon curd tart all to myself, no way am I sharing that next time. :) This is one of those places I’ll keep in the back of my head for a special occasion — we went there using our entertainment guide card, and we were lucky enough to have them not cross it off so we could come back again. Very highly recommended.
