I love old furniture that has been lovingly crafted, handmade and is unmistakably unique, and that is what is on offer at the Fremantle furniture warehouse. Warehouse is the correct term here, with a peaked tin roof supported by trussing with no insulation or air-con(take water in summer), it has a distinct workshop feel to it. The piece of furniture on offer are gorgeous, they range from modern pine piece to older looking, stained Jarrah and Karri pieces with even older looking pieces of metal set into them to lend them a distinguished appearance. The quality of the assembling and the materials used, and of course the sheer amount of time and skill required to make such beautiful pieces, results in pretty price tags too. My parents recently bought a large 12 seater table that was unbelievable to look at, and I’ll just say it cost more than my car. Worth it if you have a house to put it in and can hold onto it forever; because I have no illusions that the table would easily last a couple of hundred years. I believe they also do auctions here, though I have yet to attend one.

Fremantle’s Pine Shop is one of the main furniture stores in Fremantle. Located within an old warehouse style building directly across from the markets, The Pine Shop is a great place for finding quality solid timber fittings. Their wares are absolutely beautiful, encompassing both old fashioned and modern design, but if you ask me, their antique furniture is really where its at. They stock a range of one of antiques and like one of Oxford University desks, their wardrobes are straight from a C. S Lewis novel, and their bookcases seem perfect for displaying anyone’s personal library or an antique plate collection. This isn’t exactly Fantastic Furniture, so prices are reflective of old fashioned craftmanship. Also, there’s no air con, so this place gets incredibly hot and stuffy in the summer!
