All day every day from 5.30 in the morning. The most dependable café in Fitzroy North, fabulous coffee and good food. Very nice garden out the back and on Monday day, tapas & $ 10 pizzas. Highly recommended

This used to be my regular haunt when I lived in Fitzroy. And I still travel across the city now to go back to it for breakfast. It’s a cozy cute little café which recently has just had a courtyard built out the back which is perfect for the summer. There is lined bench seating out the front which is perfect to watch the world go by. The staff have always been friendly and welcoming. What I love about this place is that they do half serves of breakfast. So I usually have a savoury then share a sweet to finish. The half portions are still a decent size! The food tastes great and never wait ages for my breakfast.

Casual atmosphere, great coffee. Open from dawn to dusk 6−6pm. No pretension. Looks like they are also building a deck out the back for summer.

Worst café I have ever been to. Sat in the café for 15 minutes without being so much as greeted and there was only one other person in the café. Drinks order and food order was finally taken by hand after we went up the counter to order then they told us to take a seat as they would take our order. One meal came out by itself. That meal was finished then my meal came out and was missing 3 items that I ordered even though the manager wrote it down. Food quality was incredibly poor, and the bread was stale. Apparently baked eggs means ingredients thrown into a baking pan for presentation only and not actually baked. Menus were grubby and by the end of this ordeal the manager made up a random price to pay after realising how crap of an experience we had endured!

Located in Fitzroy North, Caffe Piccante is a small and funky café that serves huge portions at a great price($ 17). Inside, random drawings(it looks like it’s made with chalk, but I can’t tell) adorn the walls along with wooden chairs and tables that furnish the place. When we entered, we were greeted right away with a smile. It was clear that the servers and baristas really enjoyed their job. They were really happy and friendly — it’s the sort of thing you want to experience and see at a café. I ordered the green eggs and ham(with bacon instead of ham). What came out was this gigantic dish of scrambled eggs mixed with pesto and feta and crispy bacon. I loved the bacon, but the eggs were a bit much. The toast was slightly off — too toasted perhaps? I also ordered a side of hash brown, which they forgot to put in, but apologised for it. The hash browns were pretty, pretty good. Overall, a good experience. The food isn’t anything amazing, but great portion and tastes good. Service was spot on despite my hash brown hiccup. The best part is they offer a really cool option where you can order half of any dish for half the price plus $ 2. Perfect for those that aren’t very hungry or for those that want to try more than one thing.

Today i went for a late brunch in Caffe Piccante in Fitzroy North and had a really enjoyable experience. The coffee was good. The baked eggs with sausage, bean, bacon, spinach, poached eggs and cheese really blended together superbly. And the service had zero attitude and a whole lot of friendliness. The menu was fairly substantial and they even let you do half portions of breakfast if you aren’t feeling that peckish. But I was ravenous! The eggs were runny and I was given two thick pieces of toasted bread to mop up the yolk infused in with the rest of my dish. Although we went for breakfast, the lunch menu looked pretty comprehensive too. Was very tempted by the bangers and mash with gravy. Will be back soonish to try out the rest of their menu. Overall, great service, inexpensive varied menu, and tasty too.

Piccante Café may be tiny but it has attitude! From across the street you can see the barista’s and the coffee machine through the ‘hole in the wall’ window. Step inside and immediately you feel welcome. All it takes is the smell of great coffee and a genuine smile from staff. I set myself up at a table with a well placed power outlet and got to writing this review. The café was busy but not full, perfectly paced for a weekday morning. Quirky artwork for sale drew my attention to the wall and the range of tables and blackboards made for an inviting and charming space. My coffee arrived and it was fantastic, so was the bottle my water came in. I wish I was hungry because a blackboard invited me to look over the menu and to ask for anything! I will definitely be back to this small café for a meal. The décor and the staff were exactly what i like in a café –extremely charming and quirky.
