Tasty fresh food, big servings so don’t plan a big dinner. The coffee is very smooth and creamy. Small café, which gets very full on weekends.

Just a fly by here yesterday because the wind killed our leisurely sunny sit-outside-with-a-dog-café weather. Our waitress was lovely and brought our doggie friend a water bowl while my coffee was also quite good and served at a great temperature for Soy. Mitte is a cute café off the main areas and a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Brunswick or Smith St. Perfect to go to after a morning walk in the Park. We had our sandwiches to go and even though they didn’t appear to give you a great quantity of ham, the salty smoky quality of it carried it’s way through every bite of sandwich while the avocado kept it moist enough to comfortably eat. I like it and I reckon I’ll be back again.

I’ve ventured to Mitte for some breakfast the past two Monday mornings in between PT clients and I have to say, I am a bit disappointed. If my beloved two: bob were only open on Mondays this would not be a problem! But I digress… Mitte is cute enough. The staff are quite nice too. Coffee(or in my case tea) orders are taken the moment you sit down. Plus water and menus are brought over in a jiffy. My issue really lies with the menu. Everything is $ 12.50+, with pretty much all the egg dishes are just shy of $ 20. Now, for a weekend brunch, I have no real problems with these prices. But during the week when you don’t necessarily want all the bells and whistles and prefer some simpler, cheaper options(think eggs on toast with optional extras or a standard porridge for under $ 10), the choices are non-existent. I have tried the breakfast crumble(which was quite nice, but too sweet for my taste) and the wheat-free porridge(the only porridge option). I think the porridge was actually polenta based, which I wished they mentioned on the menu rather than calling it a «seed & grain» mixture(I was expecting something completely different to what arrived on the table). It was ok, but I wouldn’t be ordering it again. I like my porridge kept pretty simple(even if it isn’t oat based), and this was just a bit too weird for me, not just in terms of consistency but also flavours and toppings wise too. Oh well. I have no doubt I would feel differently about Mitte if I was here on a weekend and ordering one of the yummy sounding egg dishes, but alas, it’s Monday and I just want something simple… if they added a few more simpler & cheaper options to the menu I have no doubt it would get an extra star.

My favourite café in Fitzroy North, nice and out of the way plus the coffee and food are consistently amazing and the staff quite nice too! Love it.

I really can’t rave enough about the many little corner store cafes that had started popping up around Melbourne. And Mitte is an exemplary example of this. A tiny café situated in the back streets of North Fitzroy, with fantastic coffee, good service and an even better menu. Locals absolutely love this place, visitors to the area love stumbling across it and punters who dine their love what they get. If you are a passionate supporter of all things local, especially if it comes loaded with caffeine, then you can’t go wrong hunting this place down. It might be in the backstreets between Clifton Hill’s Queens Parade and North Fitzroy’s St Georges Road, but Mitte after all does mean«centre or midway’ in German. And all things good are the centre of this tiny little café.

I love this place, we were lucky enough to go for brunch on a saturday morning when there was not many people there(I have no idea where everyone was — if i lived closer to this place I would be there all the time!) I think the crapy weather kept them away, yay for us. We went there hunting something a little different than the stock standed egg and bacon breakfast and were stoked as something different is exactly what we got. I had the eggs with all sorts of mushrooms, which was absolutely delicious. My girlfriend had the chickpea bake which she could n’t stop raving about. The service was great, the coffee was great and the food was really tasty. I cant wait to go back to try out something else from the menu, or I may have to go back for more mushies! yum!

What I find most interesting about Mitte is that some of the items on their menu are made from produce grown in the nearby Collingwood College garden. Isn’t that sweet? Speaking of sweet, the pikelets with either lemon curd, warm mixed berries or Middle Eastern fruit compote are the perfect breakfast choice. However, if the idea of pikelets doesn’t tickle your fancy, then the Middle Eastern chickpea bake is one of their most famous dishes.

This is the café you wish was around the corner from your house. In the back streets of North Fitzroy/Clifton Hill, Mitte lays unassuming in a converted terrace. Its own success is probably its biggest failing, if you don’t enjoy waiting for a table/coffee then best head else where. Other wise you can sprawl patiently on the grass and wait for the hipster staff to take your order. The food is interesting, definitely recommend the chorizo sandwich or the dessert/breakfast styled pikelets with real maple syrup. Sooo good. The sandwiches are around the $ 11 mark and they’re pretty gourmet, kinda worth it. Take away coffee and head down to the Edinburgh Gardens is also another fun in the sun option.

Mitte is a local favourite around here. Usually bustling with people, especially on the weekends, this little joint seems to be doing very well for itself. My neighbour swears by this place so I went with him to check it out. Unfortunately, I was suffering a bout of the ‘ol tummy troubles after a night out, so I just had a tea, while he ate a meal from their pretty amazing menu(breakfast crumble, anyone?). Their coffee is also seriously good. When my housemate and I are in the mood for a walk and a coffee, we go here. So creamy and delicious. Their menu and hours are dedicated to the breakfast/brunch crowd and if you’re in the area, pop by. It’s generally much busier here on a sunny day, when all the outdoor furniture is out, but it’s just as nice inside. Also, they have a cute little selection of sweet treats in the window at the counter; I’ve been sucked in a few times.

Mitte is my favourite brunch spot in Fitzroy North — enough said. Those in Fitzroy North probably don’t have as many food options as those in Fitzroy, but they do have Mitte. Named after Berlin’s centre borough, Mitte is an amazing find — great service and great food. However, for a weekend brunch, be prepared to wait. Order a coffee and sit on the grass whilst they sort you out a table. The staff is accommodating and tries to get you a table as fast as possible. Considering how tiny Mitte is, it does offer a broad range of food from sandwiches to salads from sweet to savoury dishes. My favourite brunch item is the poached egg(Melbourne cafes love their poached egg) with salmon and my favourite sandwich is the chicken and brie, all served with delicious Dench bread. The dishes are moderate size, but filling. The coffees are great, but what I really love are their homemade juices — pomegranate, lime, and mint goodness.
