El chino is a cool little Mexican restaurant in the North Fitzroy village. The food ia quite yummy and the drinks are very refreshing. If you are to dine in, make sure you sit out back as its a little mexican world of its own.

Finding a yummy place to eat that caters for having a doggie with you isn’t always easy, but El Chino have this delightful garden area in the back past the kitchen which we never even knew existed otherwise we definitely would have come here sooner!!! It’s peaceful and tranquil and suprisingly deceiving. From the front we thought it was just a quiet restaurant but once venturing out back realised this is where all the locals hang out. My girlfriend and I both ordered the vegetarian burrito and and although it took quite some time to come out, it was a bargain at $ 10 as the lunch special. Serving size was more than adequate and tasted pretty good. Will definitely be back when I want a lazy casual meal with plenty of time on my hands.

It’s okay, they need to do a lot of rethinking. The tortillas are very nice but they put a very juicy sauce on the tacos making the tortilla soggy and impossible to pick up. The sweet corn on the cob tastes okay but needs to be presented better, cob holders are a must. Service is slow but friendly. Tables need improving; lots of 2 seat and 6 seat so if you go in with 3 people the staff look very confused. I’d probably go again but with only 1 other person, sit outside and have nachos. It is BYO only. The muscles are great, lamb shanks are great, prawns are good.

Help I can’t move I want to move suburbs but I cannot be more than a short walk away from El Chino At El Chino you can be a Cupid. At El Chino you can be Jessie’s best friend. At El Chino you can make the staff drink the mezcal you smuggled in while pretending to be respectable. I once ate an entire loaf of bread in one sitting from this place. I ate the whole fiesta 50 times(different visits). I am addicted to this place. Save yourself, I have warned you. Addiction to El chino is real.

Our favorite Mexican eatery in Australia! My half Mexican/SoCal husband loved this place. Mexican food that is not overpriced in Australia is hard to come by. The tacos were very good and authentic. I wish we had this restaurant closeby to where we live!

El chino is a cool little hangout in the north Fitzroy shopping area. Almost opposite Piedmonte’s El chino is fun inside, usually, busy and has plenty of friendly staff. Servings are a little bigger, so it serves as a great sharing style restaurant. The nacho’s are great; only 2⁄10 on an unhealthy artery clogging scale. Suffice to say they haven’t been drowned in some revolting weird mutant cheese sauce, that probably started it’s life as a powder, and they’ve been oven baked. Yes, mad mex, that’s how you make nacho’s in case you were wondering. It’s also not drowned in kilo’s of cheese. Elsewise cactus taco’s– 3 taco’s from six options, or you could order a plank selection, or even go for the sharing«you have to be hungry feast meals. The best part about El chino is that you can byo beers and well everything if you want. There’s even an option for bring your own rum, and the guys and El chino will create something marvelous for you. With options of the stock standard, cheap and bland piedmonte’s iga liquor, or the far superior Blackheart and sparrows you should be taking huge advantage of this Byo policy. Great hang out spot.

Hello Mexican street food in the heart of Fitzroy North! We stumbled across this place whilst looking for a bite to eat. Housed in the old bakery, this cute little place offers Mexican street food at a decent price. The ginger granita was the perfect blend between spicy and refreshing, and the tacos tried(pulled pork, beef and spicy prawn) hit the spot. Recommend you order the corn dish and some guacamole to top your tacos. The most exciting part? You can phone ahead to order and pick up take away designed specifically for picnicking in Edinburgh Gardens. If that doesn’t suck in the local hipsters like a vortex I’ll be exceptionally surprised.

What a pleasant surprise to stumble across this gem when I was craving some Mexican. The mushroom quesadilla was a delightful morsel. The ginger granita was super refreshing(7 Eleven should develop just such a Slurpee), and my coffee was well made. The place has a great vibe, and I’ll be returning to try out the rear garden.
