The Cumquat Tree

The Cumquat Tree is kind of easy to miss. Settled with Bicton’s tiny shopping complex next to Fresh Provisions, it has this 1970s brick exterior that’s kind of plain and uninviting. Which is a shame, because inside is a whole lot nicer, if not a little too crowded.
The first thing I notice when I walk into this store is that it smells like granny’s toilet. It’s a sickly sweet floral smell, and I’m not sure where it’s coming from but it almost sends me running.
Which I guess tells you a bit about the demographic of the store’s customers. Cumquat is a lovely little gift store that you’d probably find your mother’s Christmas gift in. I’m quite keen on buying my mother one of the inspirational books they have displayed on a shabby chic dresser, or perhaps a few of the quality linen tea towels and a candle by Ecoya. I really did love the beautiful handmade leather bags by Melbourne designer Elk. These were absolutely gorgeous!
A nice little store to gander in if you’re in the area.
