«Real Roast Duck at last!» I really, really love roast duck but most restaurants offering this course either arty it up or shred it, squash it or generally try to disguise it from what it really is. Their Ducks Sucks, in fact. But now at last, a café that brings back how duck should be served. It must be crisp roasted with orange.simple. Número Uno Café knows how to prepare and serve up Duck a l’Orange in the old fashioned way. Just add sweet potato mash and English spinach mixed with the orange flavour and, to me it doesn’t get any better. Tuesday was ‘Gnocchi Night’ and my wife’s’ Prawn and asparagus Gnocchi was the best she has ever tried. So, imagine what a surprise this place was find. We entered into a very spartan and empty room. Simple white tablecloths and café furniture, white walls with many black framed photos of the owners family and children. altogether a very minimalist café. That’s why the food came as a hugely pleasant surprise to us… we did not expect it to be so good. Rich food, minimalist environment. The owner served us and generally made such a fuss of us, she couldn’t do enough for us. Don’t let the décor influence you… the food is honest to goodness really excellent. We shall be going back soon and we shall have exactly the same dishes as we had tonight. Defineatley worth a visit.
