Ditch that kebab after a few beers, and head here instead. This place is the take-out sister to Thirsty Bird in the cross. If you’ve been there, you’ll kinda know what to expect. Don’t look at the menu, just grab a Pork Roll. Chips aren’t required.

If you want to get your sodium and cholesterol overload, this is definitely the spot! I’m not sure if it was only my «crackles»(AUD$ 5) but they were super salty. But the pork crackles lived up to it’s name, I felt my teeth would become crackles afterwards. Couldn’t finish it, had a few bites, but I hope a few birds came across the leftovers and enjoyed them. Would be great if it wasn’t overly salty, but I will return to try the Hot dogs instead.

This place has massive and extremely delicious sandwiches. Each one is about a foot long, filled with various meat options(pork, chicken, lamb — and there is a vego option). The rolls cost $ 13.50, and sides are extra. You can also buy pork and lamb by the kilo. The sandwiches really fill you up, but you won’t want to stop eating because they’re so tasty. You can find this place on the main drag of Oxford Street, making it a popular weekend night option for people going out in the area. It is not a bad option for food before hitting up any of the Darlinghurst/Surry Hills nightlife, or even as a late-night snack(a massive snack) after going out. My only complaints are that there aren’t many options(5 or so), seating is minimal and the wait to order can be long on a weekend night(15+ minutes), but then the sandwiches are made fairly quickly. None of that was enough to dissuade me to go back. The delicious sandwiches won me over!

I love how this place opens late on the weekends making it a perfect stop for drunchies(drunk munchies). Also, they prepared the food really quick! So didn’t have to stand around waiting, drunk and hungry! I’ve only tried the crackles classic and sweet potato wedges. I looooove the cracklings in the sandwich. It gave it a really good crunch!(I wouldn’t order a side of cracklings though because I think it tastes better in a sandwich rather than on its own). The sandwich had just the right amount of pork belly in it. The sweet potato wedges were good, but i think i’d prefer them as fries instead of wedges. Overall, it was a delicious inexpensive meal that was really filling.

There’s something special about a culinary joint who has really found a unique sweet spot, and that’s certainly the case with Mr. Crackles. Whether you’re adventurous enough to go straight for the crispy pig skin or a bit more on the conservative side, Mr. Crackles very likely has a pork concoction that will suit your fancy. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? If you couldn’t tell by the raw excitement radiating off of some of the other reviews, Mr. Crackles delivers, and you can tell by their pretty basic brick and mortar setup that delivery is where they bring in some serious revenue. The storefront is basic with maybe 10 seats in the entire place, and the fried pork skin is right there for all to see just to make sure that you’re dedicated to what you’re about to consume. Service is fast and as friendly as you could hope for, so certainly no complaints here. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? As others have stated, Mr. Crackles isn’t exactly cheap, and while my Sweet Pork Roll was pretty sizable, it ran me $ 13.50. While that’s not unreasonable($ 15.00 would have been unreasonable) and other menu items are priced sub $ 10.00, keep in mind that this is a tier above the price range you might be comfortable with for a late night bite. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Yum. I’ve had pork sandwiches of all shapes, sizes and styles, but my Sweet Pork Roll was unique. In between a soft and buttery roll(akin to what you’d have your lobster roll served in back stateside) was some delicious and tender sweet pork mixed with a lettuce and mayo blend. Replace the roll with an asian bun and you’d be looking at a classic pork bao sandwich, which I think is why I liked it so much. Great flavor, great consistency, and a great sandwich. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? It’s close, but the price range and somewhat narrow focus of the menu make it such that I can’t quite go five stars here. It’s close though. No Star Granted.

Filthy pork in a good way. My partner really enjoyed this style of food, I’m a bit more squeamish about eating pig skin.

Located on busy Oxford Street is a food stand where awesome rolls are concocted to fulfill your sandwich fix. Comparable to the Vietnamese banh mi or to the USA’s southern style po’ boy sandwiches, Mr. Crackles serves pork, chicken, and lamb on their popular rolls. Their slow cooked pork with a crispy skin is the most popular, but the other meats are also delicious. I’ve had the chance to try three different rolls and they were all great in my book. My favorite is the Crackles classic which comes with chunks of the slow cooked pork with the tasty crispy skin on a hard roll. The combination of the pork and Vietnamese salad is so simple but so good. The chicken katsu with wasabi mayo comes in second as my other fav, the way they get the skin cooked is just perfect, it gives the sandwich the right kind of crunch! The last sandwich I’ve tried was the sweet pork which is a braised pork belly on a soft white bread with cabbage and mayo, its good but I wouldn’t order it because I loved the Crackles Classic and Chicken Katsu ones more. And don’t forget to order a side of nicely flavored thin chips(fries), they go great with your sandwich. It’s easier to order for takeaway since there are only a few stools on each side of the walls to eat. Overall, a great place to hit up for lunch and after hours if you’re ever in the CBD.

OMG! OMG!!! Spring break. Rain. Too tired to cook… soooooo… With the exception of the hot dogs(Australian hot dogs are not even a distant relative to the Chicago dog. Sorry.) the food is fab-u-lus! And they deliver! Woo hoo!!! We had hot dogs(no comment), lamb, chicken and pork belly. Chips(that’s Aussie speak for French fries), 2 kinds of sweet potatoes and also white potatoes. My grandchildren loved the dogs. And there was a sandwich too but not sure what it was nor did I get a chance to try it — it was grabbed up too fast for me to get a taste! The pork belly, lamb and chicken were not just delicious but everything arrived HOT! Definitely will be having this again!!! Soon!!!

One of the best crispy pork in Sydney for sure. A little on the expensive side though. I had large salad with crispy pork for $ 17. Only 1⁄5 of the container was filled with pork. So that’s not value for money. Especially for lunch. Will I come back? Maybe but not in a near medium term

My porky prayers have been answered by the bacon gods. And the light of all which is bacon shall shine upon thee. Though shall bask the the crispy goodness and slather our insides with all that is tasty. Ahmen The music was a little shit. But this is not the sort of place you hang around.

So I finally got to try Mr. Crackles after hearing all of the hype and for me it didn’t stack up. I got the classic roll and the pork on it was incredible. Succulent chunks of pork with amazingly crispy crackling — some of the best I’ve had. The salad and bread were also pretty good. But the problem I had is that the thing was so hard to eat. I either got a piece of bread and salad or a piece of pork. Rarely both at the same time as if I tried to get pork and bread, I’d have the biggest mouth full of food in history. It sort of reminded me of one of those burgers you see where you need a knife and fork to eat it. Not good. That said, if you’ve got a mouth the size of the Kiama blowhole, you’ll love this sandwich. For those with standard sized mouths, you might frustrated with it and instead be left simply enjoying chunks of pork on their own(which isn’t the worst thing in the world)

Tried the crackling cup and lamb sandwich. The crackling is not for the faint of heart, but it’s sooooo good. What a guilty pleasure. Mr. Crackles this wonderful synergy with the Bitter Phew, which is a nearby pub. Not sure if they do this with the other pubs nearby, but if you are at the pub you can order Mr. Crackles from the bar staff and pay there, and then Mr. Crackles will deliver the food to the pub and then it magically appears in front of you. It’s fantastic. I would eat here again for sure, but only rarely so as not to have a heart attack.

Bread is fluffy & doughy with just the right amount of crunch in the edges. Not so crunchy that it hurts your mouth. So. Good. Got the pork belly sandwich & — wow. Presentation was excellent, meat was just the right amount of juicey & soft. Sandwiches are hearty & will leave you full for hours. The smell lingers. It’s great.

Think Bahn mi roll with crackling pork. We went here late on Thursday and the food was great and simple but very tasty! I can imagine even better after a few drinks. I went for the workers recommendation of the original and it was cracking :)

Mr Crackles is the type of place that makes you contemplate going to the gym the next day. The difference is you’ll still think it was worth it regardless! Venue Pretty much a hole in the wall, they have a few seats in form of bar-chairs against the wall. This place is open till late and is at that hour the final(?) destination for many post-barhoppers. The waiting time can be quite long at night — still worth it though. Sneaky tip: You can order Mr Crackles from the bar Bitter Phew a couple of meters down, in case you wanted proper seating and a beer with that. Food Pork is of course key here, and the chef really knows what he’s doing. I personally doubt any roll on the menu can be better than the sweet pork roll — only because that sweet pork roll is outstanding. The fries are also one of a kind; topped with chicken salt(yes that’s a thing) they are, hands down, the best fries I’ve had in my life. Don’t be deceived by the size of the fries box — they fill them up so much that eating it becomes a game of Jenga. They do salads and vegetarian options as well! My only question is why they haven’t opened a second joint already?

So it’s my first time in Sydney, Australia and I decided to walk around and see what’s near my hotel. The usual places are here like pie face, Asian restaurants, and pizza. But I came across this hole in a wall place that has a sign called«Mr crackles» I decided to check it out since these are the type of places I enjoy going too! The guy there recommended me to get the classic. The best way I can describe this sandwich is that it’s a Vietnamese type sandwich with pork on top or something similar to a Filipino dish called«lechon kawali«. Best combination I must I also ordered the Bbq sticky fries which pretty much is like brisket on top of fries. Be mindful that it is a hole in the wall so limited seats should be expected I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family or to any foodies out there.

Mr. Crackles is one of the best sandwich shops in Sydney. When it first opened two years ago, it wow’d me, and now on my return trip to Sydney it wow’s me again. Great food, that is original and yet comforting. This is everything that a good sandwich should be.(and is wasted on so many drunk people on Oxford St.)

Although the Crackles Classic is meant to be the star dish of this joint, I would highly recommend the Prawn Po’ Boy instead. It has tempura prawn, pork floss and a hint of chilli a lime — It’s hard hitting in flavor without being over salted like its pork counterpart. This is an awesome post-party feed if you happen to be around Oxford St. However, I would avoid the crackling cups, they are way too thick and salty to be enjoyable, I struggled to finish one piece.

We went to Mr Crackles specifically for the crackles and it was worth the $ 5. Super salty, crunchy yummy goodness. It’s a giant roasted pork skin found in my pulled pork sandwiches. By itself, it’s a very salty snack. Perfect with beer! Not a dining establishment but they do have a small counter if you want to eat there. Most of the people we saw there were for take out or takeaway(Aussie speak) Being Asian, Roasted Pork Skin is not a novelty but this is a different style, thicker harder and crunchy like a cookie. Good to try for the comparison.
