I wouldn’t recommend the coffee, it was just drinkable, tasted bitter and the milk was over heated. The food was tasty but nothing amazing. The avocado smash didn’t have anywhere near enough avocado, the mushroom and goats cheese were the saviors of this dish. «The lot» was a tasty classic breakfast, nothing standout here. The service was very quick for a busy Sunday morning which was good.

Excellent service! Deliciously simple food and the almond croissants are heavenly! Best place for breakfast being so close to cott beach.

John St… what can I say! I would come here everyday for breakfast if I could! It is a hidden gem! Nestled under the tall tree that are dotted around Cottesloe. Even on the weekends there is never a really big wait on a table as the service is so quick that the turn over is pretty good. My go to order is the Eggs Benny which is a poached egg served on a english muffin topped with grilled ham and covered in a zesty Benedict sauce with the BEST tasting homemade hash cake as a side order! And dont forget to try the fruit blast or homemade tradition lemonade! I have brought every member of my family and most of my friend circle here and they now call this place their regular as well! Definetly one to check out if you havent and if you have been here before… you will agree that this is the place place in Perth :)

Two star review due to the piss poor service and mostly incompetent wait staff. The waiter who initially took our drink orders was not the same person who took our food order. When the waitress came to take our food order she brought her attitude with her. I would name her specifically, but no name tags on the wait staff. Short dark hair with fair skin. Upon serving the meal we placed another drink order and requested another bottle of water. 15 minutes passed before I finally got up and secured the bottle of water off the counter myself. I ran into the waitress while I was up, when I explained I was getting some water she replied«oh right». At that point a new waitress took over or table. Not sure why, but she was much more pleasant and attentive. The food itself was good. No complaints in that department. Our 2nd drink order arrived 10 minutes after we had finished our meal. The drinks were yummy. Hopefully the restaurant can hire some better servers before it really has a permanent negative effect on the business.

Went here with a friend for breakfast on a beautiful Sunday morning. The place was packed to the rafters. Queues of people waiting to get in. Thankfully I had booked a table. It was a little noisy but that is to be expected with so many people there. After you get used to the noise it seemed to melt away into the background. The waitress was lovely and took our order quickly. We both ordered mugs of coffee and the big breakfast from the extensive menu — mine the veggie one. The coffee was delicious and smooth that I had to order a takeaway one when I left. The breakfast was huge and took me a while to get through. It was really tasty and exactly what you would expect from a big breakfast item. The hashbrowns were very tasty.

Great, location to relax away from the Hustle and bustle of the main Cottesloe strip. Food is lovely, and well presented. Chatty, friendly staff always a plus. One area for improvement… Breakfast menu could do with more options that don’t include bread, crumpets, muffins etc.

we planned to visit sculptures by the sea so decided to catch up with family for breakfast before hand. I emailed them a few days earlier to make a booking as we had kids with us and wanted to make sure we got a table. no one got back to us. Turned up bright and early and stood at the«please wait to be seated» sign. a couple of staff walked passed us a few times without acknowledging us(me pet peeve) it got to the point where I had to say to one«when you’re ready» We told the girl we emailed for a booking but no one emailed back she said that’s because we aren’t taking bookings during sculptures by the sea. great! perhaps try shooting us an email saying that. food was good, 2 of us had the big breakfast, $ 20 quite big portions, hash browns were amazing, to the point that we wondered if they were hash browns at all. They seemed more like a pattie of some sort or a large thai crab cake. who knows? wild field mushrooms were missing from both our breakfast plates. who knows why? couldn’t tell you nor did the waitress that seemed like she just rolled out of bed. would I go back? probably not. not because of the food but because if the staff can’t wear their smiles and be fresh faced and wide eyed, then why should I even think about bringing my joyful self(not to mention my crisp white linen shirt, coloured bank notes and shiny disco balls) to an establishment that provides the bare minimum in customer relations. bye felicia

John Street Café is definitely a must for breakfast and lunch. Me and my brother went here for breakfast as we’ve done on several ocassions and as always had a great time. It’s not located on the main of the beach. It’s situated up several hundred meters from the other waterfront cafes, which is actually really nice. It gets way too crowded on the main walk of Cottesloe Beach. John Street Café is definitely a real relaxing and chill spot to enjoy either breakfast or lunch. As always, the staff is absolutely amazing and ridiculously polite. They certainly help to make the breakfast much more enjoyable. However, breakfast gets wildly crowded, so good luck at getting a seat, expect a slight wait. Lunch time seems to be less crowded. My goto breakfast is the eggs benedict with there amazing hasbrowns. The eggs are cooked perfectly and their hollandaise is righteous. It’s not too heavy with a crapload of butter, but you can definitely taste the lemon and a hint of cayenne pepper. Extremely creamy, smooth and delicious. The hashbrowns are always prepared perfectly, nice and crunchy texture on the outer, whilst moist on the inner. The prices are a bit steep, so prepare to spend when eating here. However the food is excellent.

This place is always busy yet they still seem to find the room to fit you in. There are a few smoked salmon breakfast options which is great. The coffee was average but the view and location up for where the coffee disappoints.

Every Friday my work colleagues and I are demolishing breakfast after our morning training session, and we picked out Johns. Service was friendly and willing to offer advice. I ordered the poached eggs on toast in the mid $ 11 bracket. The eggs were poached well, with just a smattering of seasoning and hint of vinegar. The grained organic toast was crunchy and a perfect thickness. The thing that bugged me a little was the prices were pushing the friendship a little. Food 7⁄10 service 7.5÷10 décor 7⁄10

Slightly more humble than it’s Cottesloe counterparts, the John Street Café isn’t massively in to appearances and I like that. The façade of the building is gorgeous and inside it is very basic with beachy low key furniture. The breakfast menu has everything you could want, from Eggs Benedict to freshly baked muffins. Lots of incredible looking cakes on display too. A very casual laid back affair with no pretense, which is refreshing.

Unfortunately some very unfriendly and haughty service experienced recently has eroded those four stars to just two. Customers, like myself were ordered around like misbehaved children. It sort of feels like they figure they’re popular enough so pleasantries aren’t essential. Food itself was less than excellent too. Sorry.

Cottesloe has a lot of cafes. Many frequented by the well heeled locals and come across as snobby and pretentious. This is not one of them. John Street Café is an trendy and upmarket café, but without the airs. It is not on the main drag down on the beach, it is 400m up a side street. This is a great place to have brunch on a weekend, after having a swim down at the beach. It is not as busy as the main drag and it is mainly frequented by locals. Parking on the weekends can be a problem, you may have to park up the street and walk for a bit. The food and coffee is a little pricey, but portions are big and the food is delicious. Also has vegetarian options.

Nestled under the pine trees about 300 metres back from the main Cottesloe beach John Street Café is a super chilled location which is probably the most«local» café in the suburb. Open for breakfast and lunch the café has a seated area inside and outside on the pavement as well as a take away area on the side. The servings are generous and the prices are reasonable especially for the area. Personal favourites include the big breakfast which is fit for a king and the milkshakes are deadly awesome. Dogs are welcome and water is provided, and if you wonder where the bathroom is its down a passage outside to the right and out the back

A breath of fresh air as much of this subrub has reverted to pretense. They do a delicious breakfast which can be enjoyed pretty close to the beach(not on it but that will save you from wind burn). I have been here a couple of times and my biggest gripe is inconsistency. I have had some great breakfasts and have also had some bad experiences here too. The meals are very big so expect to be full leaving. The lunch menu has some of the usual fare but also has some experimental features from time to time.

Nestled among the beautiful houses of Cottesloe is this bright blue café, which is so flipping charming I feel like it needs its own theme song. John Street Café captures the spirit of its suburb in every way — from the laid-back, we don’t take bookings atmosphere to the fresh, flavoursome food. Smoked salmon and potato rosti from this place is still one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The juices and smoothies too are really something, and the breakfasts — classic ingredients, unpretentious and so very very good. One thing though: the bill seems to hit the high notes here unexpectedly so make sure you’re cashed up when you visit. John Street also does really impressive take-away meals and cakes which is worth noting. A great sunny day eating spot.
