To start, the service was inviting and prompt which provided a nice setting for lunch. The Nasi goreng was ordered to give a Malaysian feel to the day. The presentation is what you would expect for the staple, and for the most part so we’re the flavour profile. It just didn’t have the bags of flavour you expect from a Nasi, but fulfilling all the same. The fried egg was cooked perfectly so the yoke could run and meld into the rice. A decent offering from a restaurant that offer a bit of everything. Food 6.5÷10 service 7.5÷10 décor 6.5÷10

We came to Groove Train for an impromptu dinner date. Just so happened they had a $ 15 beer and pizza special(only on State of Origin game days). We ordered the Italian sausage pizza and the prosciutto pizza. Prosciutto pizza was delicious, I could have eaten more slices(less crusts). The Italian sausage pizza though, was pretty bland. It needed a lot more topping. It basically tasted like a garlic pizza. Service was great, our waitress was very friendly, knowledgable and continued to check in an make sure we didn’t need anything else. I’d definitely go back for a chilled out lunch or dinner.

Been here a few times, service is great, food was delicious although I once had the Italian sausages and they were way over cooked. The food is served quickly which is great because like most people I dislike waiting over 20mins for food. Defiantly Would go back again.

I was suprised to see so many low scoring reviews. I have been going to this Groove Train since they opened last year and have not had a negative experience yet. The staff are always welcoming and attentive and have a lovely sense of humour. I love the Eggplant Chips and if you ever dare to try the Dessert Calzone, don’t do it alone! It’s not for the weak hearted… a huge calzone filled with warmed nuttella and strawberries… oh boy I feel full just thinking about it again. The décor is amazing and each time I visit I imagine how I could turn my downstairs area into a mini groove-esque den. The colours and lighting create a nice balance of warmth and ambience. This would be a great place to drag family and friends out for a birthday dinner and it’s also great for before and after movie drinks and snacks. Go and make your own mind up!

My husband and I had lunch here on a Sunday, it was midday, very few patrons, yet the female manager/head– waitress who begrudgingly welcomed us, made us feel as though we should feel honoured to be allowed to sit in her empty restaurant. Her attitude was enough to make me turn to my husband and say«let’s leave.» But he wanted to try their pizza, so I let it go and we were seated. The waitress we had was actually very attentive and sweet, in fact the overall vibe of this quiet establishment seemed as though head-waitress was messing with everyone’s chi. Her slumped shoulders, frown and feet dragging strides dominated what would have been a relaxed, contemporary atmosphere. Onwards, we ordered. I don’t really understand what the theme of this restaurant is. There is no one type of cuisine, my husband ordered a Prosciutto Pizza and I the Wok-Fried Hokkien Noodles, they were both about $ 23, from the All Day Menu. The descriptions of both dishes were mouthwatering. The Prosciutto Pizza was your standard Margharita plus Gorgonzola, Marscapone, fresh basil and obviously Prosciutto. Is it just me or do you also think a cheese with a personality like Gorgonzola should be a co-star of a show and not just a supporting act? Well, Groove decided to give it a supporting role, not only could you not see the gorgeous blue veins, but it was all you could taste. The Prosciutto was not evenly distributed and there was hardly any«fresh basil.» The Wok-Fried Hokkien Noodles, described on their menu as tender marinated chicken, tossed with Asian greens, sweet soy, coriander, ginger, chilli sauce and sesame seeds. Listen, it was mediocre, the sauce and noodles were Noodle Box quality but the chicken, although plentiful which is fantastic to see, was heinously over cooked. The service was generally quite fast given they were basically empty, our waitress was lovely and the overall décor of the restaurant is great. What really let this place down for me was that manager/head-waitress/whoever she was, her attitude towards customers was abysmal, I would have been willing to give this place another chance if not for her. I hate writing reviews like this, but Groove Train have sure earned this one.

Our first time at the new(ish) groove train. It’s a decent space, that’s obviously built to handle the manic crowds of Chermside’s shoppers, but when it came to a quiet Wednesday night, the place was an empty cave. With wait staff practically yelling at each other through the giant area. We ordered drinks at the bar, and I used my bellwether of a whiskey sour. I wasn’t disappointed, the barman new his drinks, and the result was a beautifully tart, rounded drink. The furnishings aren’t too bad down at the bar-end of the space, where there’s some booths and big boy seating, away from the black timber café style chairs. Groove train’s a great alternative to the Irish pub next door, when you’d rather sit and contemplate, rather than scream at each other over Pitbull’s latest foray into ‘music’

Really mediocre food. Don’t fall for the hyped design or amount of people: they won’t be back either. Overpriced and bland food. GOELSEWHERE.

My husband and I decided to try something new. We went out to Chermside shopping centre last night for dinner and a movie, a regular date night for us. Originally dinner was going to be at the pub, but we decided to try Groove Train upon seeing the atmosphere, and design of the place. The menu out the front looked alright so we walked in, and there is a clear sign saying that you need to go to the counter to be seated. We lined up, the staff were nice and we got a table very quickly. They took our order within 5 – 10 minutes of us sitting down. Our drinks arrived 5 minutes after that and our mains arrived about 10 minutes later. Hubby ordered the fish and chips which he tells me were delicious, I ordered the Groove burger and opted for the beef(you get a choice of beef or chicken on that burger). When it arrived it was a bit bigger than I was expecting, but looked nice and came with a large serving of chips. It contained a beef patty, lettuce, tomato, bacon, mayo, beetroot, egg. They also provide you with a tub of tomato sauce to either put on your burger or eat with your chips. The burger was nice enough, but there was a herb or spice in the burger patty that I could not distinguish. It was kind of sweet but also strong and put me off eating majority of my burger. Once we were satisfied we had eaten all we could of our mains, we wanted to look at the dessert menu. We understand that it was a busy night for the staff as I believe this place has only recently been opened at Chermside for a few weeks. But when you need to get to your movie on time it can be a bit worrying when the staff constantly walk by your table and take no notice of you, I tried a few times to get the staff’s attention by giving them eye contact as they walked by(which has worked for me in other places), but they just kept walking. It took us about half an hour to get the attention of the staff long enough for them to give us the dessert menu & then another 10 minutes to get us the dessert. One thing we found misleading was on the regular menu it has a series of Calzone options, with writing underneath stating that they had a dessert cabinet to choose dessert from if you don’t wish to have a Calzone. I went looking for this dessert cabinet, and hubby asked the waitress about it, to which she replied«oh we don’t have a dessert cabinet, we just have this menu» which the menu she showed us had 3 dessert options on it and none of them jumped out at me. Hubby ordered a Chocolate Calzone(which turned out to have Strawberries in it and on it which we didn’t realise when we ordered it, as I am allergic to Strawberries). I’ve never been a huge fan of Calzones but hubby is, so I tried the chocolate parts which was alright, but hubby came across a sizeable burnt patch in his half. We were considering returning here, but the big delay between mains and getting dessert was a bit much. Also I wasn’t too fond of the burger I had ordered.

I ate lunch there yesterday with a friend. It was OK. Nothing more, nothing less. Next time, I’m going to Grill’d.
