This is a fantastic place to pre-game before a night out. The food here has that old school tavern preparation to it. You hardly get that anymore. The staff are brilliant. Really helpful, sweet and are always up to get you whatever you need without a long wait. The bartenders and waitresses are so sweet and they really do their best to make their customers happy. Fast service. The menu is one of a kind and they do beer battered chips!(This is everything to those fellow fry loving citizens) I would recommend this place for any age for an Irish Tavern/Pub it is very diverse and there is something for everyone.

I have been for dinner a few times and it wasnt too bad. The lamb shanks were slow cooked and the mash was about what I expected. Inside was relatively clean but outside was sticky and the smoke from smokers passed across everyone Cost was good but putting a DJ on so early was pretty bs Oh well I shouldnt really expect more for the cost

Long story short, went for lunchtime steaks. Table was filthy, floor was sticky and meal was sent back because it resembled a chew toy. If its a pseudo Irish drinking establishment in the first instance then great. It looked like they had a huge night — I just hope it was from the 12 hours before. But we won’t be back for food.

This place hasn’t changed a bit. I used to go here when I was younger and I was starting a night out on the outskirts of the Brisbane north. Its still dark and a little danky inside, but that’s apart of its appeal. The pub meals are always generous and the steak dishes are always a cheap and hearty opener before you start on the turps diet for the rest of the evening. There’s always people getting their drink on, it’s a great mixture of students, tip rats and families. When you need to escape it’s especially convenient to get into the city or Valley because there’s a major bus station nearby . Its interesting to have a pub in such a family friendly shopping complex, but from my own personal experience, the crowd at this place is never too rowdy or obnoxious. Its worth starting out there if you’re going to hit the town, but for families with younger children probably go somewhere else.

Gilhooleys Chermside looks like a less-inhabited version of the more well-known CBD Gilhooleys. However, its distance from the city and Westfield location keeps the Chermside chapter of Gilhooleys in line as far as annoying drunks concerned. At least, this is true of during the day. You’re more likely to find people who’ve finished up shopping having a relaxing pub lunch out the front of Gilhooleys Chermside(which is furnished with proper tables unlike the CBD’s uncomfortable stool-around-a-barrel motif) than the older, semi-vagrant type drunks the city store can attract by day. The pub food I had here was slightly below standard fare. My steak was pretty fatty and chewy, effectively cancelling out the bonus of its size. Luckily, beer is quite filling and comprised most of my lunch. After just two beers I was tipsy. Walking to Gilhooley’s toilets(unimpressive but fairly clean) I noticed that this Gilhooley’s is much airier and lighter in its vibe than Gilhooleys CBD. I attributed the latter’s dour atmosphere to the heavy dark wooden furnishings, but it must be more than that. Gilhooley’s CBD, on the inside, is windowless and resembles a cave. Gilhooleys Chermside has skylights and also better lighting; there’s more of a «happy pub» vibe to it than its city branch even though there’s much less of a crowd. The arrangement of the interior(including a dance floor) indicates this might be a pretty packed pub on Friday and Saturday nights with young drinkers in the surrounding suburbs.

A pub at a shopping centre is either a terrible idea or a great idea. On the one hand, boys can be left here while the girls go shopping(with the boys money preferably) and come back for some recovery drinks and energy replenishing bar food at the end. On the other hand, if the girls hit up the pub before hand it makes for a pretty interesting shopping trip with some bad purchases to regret at the end. Whichever it is, I still enjoy their nachos and cheap drinks before or after a shopping spree. It isn’t the classiest looking place, just your average Irish themed tavern. They have pretty standard bar food but its definitely better than what’s in the food court and cheap enough to leave plenty of money for shopping!
