I come here for the American with pineapple. It’s the garlic on the pizza that j can’t get enough off. They are great with kids, and so it makes for a pleasant Sunday lunch when I’m done here.

Been going here for around 15 years. The food is consistently excellent and quite cheap too.

Solid. Hard to excel in a street of excellent Italian restaurants, nevertheless good place.

Solid Italian place along Lygon street. We ordered garlic bread, fettuccine carbonara(you can order the type of pasta you want) and a pizza(forgot the exact kind.) Food came out pretty quickly; solid 3 stars I’d say. Service was good. They had no chili oil though… so I had chili flakes instead. There’s a huuuuge amount of Ferrari memorabilia up.

I have one hour until my movie starts. I haven’t eaten properly for three days. There’s heaters on the street outside that make the place too welcoming to pass by. And I had my heart set on pizza anyway. The moment I close my menu I’m served by a good looking girl with a wonderful accent. My beer appears on my table mere moments later. It’s cold. Proper cold. It feels like beer ought to feel. And I’m not gonna waste one more second writing about it. At this point I click the Five Stars for my review. I’m watching the two wait staff and they’re watching us; attentive and quick to respond. And polite, which goes a long way. Around me are others enjoying their meals and I see a cheesy, greasy slice of pizza that makes me feel the pangs of my three day fast. By the time my Medium American pizza is presented to me I’m practically drooling. It’s a little bit smaller and quite a bit greasier than I’d have liked. But no less tastier. I should have ordered a large; I’ve got my eye on the New Zealand Ice Cream store just five doors North of here and maybe I wouldn’t be thinking about dessert if I’d had enough pizza. Still, it has been three days so I accept responsibility for that error in judgement. Before I know it my beer is empty and my pizza’s almost gone. The whole experience is over in less than thirty minutes. The five star rating stays: I ate a delicious pizza, drank a cold beer and was served with a smile and a cool accent. As I take my last bite I’m eyeing off that ice cream store. The pizza was satisfying but I’m not content. I’ll go for dessert now.

The decoration is pretty awful, I guess this place has seen better days. That doesn’t mean that the food wasn’t good. In fact it was pretty decent for the price I paid and the staff were also really polite. The only downside is that the bathroom facilities weren’t well kept and when you walked past the door it smelled really bad.

My experience with Café Corretto is proof that one bad experience with a place really does cancel out a whole swag of good ones– especially in a market as competitive as Lygon Street’s Italian scene. A group of colleagues and I used to regularly go to Café Corretto for a big, quick pasta meal that included good service and little fuss. The last time I went however, we were dismayed to find that nestled within the pasta in no less than FOUR different dishes were big shards of broken plastic. We called the waiter over to complain, who in turn called the manager over. The manager then got really shirty with us and blamed us for the plastic shards!(umm, ok). At that point none of us wanted to finish our meals and informed the manager we would be leaving without playing for the plastic-laden pastas. He got irate and started yelling, and the whole thing turned into an ugly, awful scene. I have never been back, and will never go back. I can do without terrible service and questionable OH&S practices!

I’m a little biased when it comes to pasta, basically because I love them all. Yep, even the ones that come out of a can. There’s just something comfy, cosy and addictive about it. And the less fuss and fancy the better. I must admit the only dish I’ve tried at Corretto is the Agnolotti Don Angelo. It’s a sort of stuffed, moon-shaped ravioli filled with pumpkin and ricotta then coated in Napoli sauce. I love it. Flavours work well, but sometimes when the pumpkin isn’t sweet enough the dish can be a little flat. It’s not a big serve of pasta, and because this isn’t a revolutionary culinary experience, and there are so many other Italian place to choose from nearby, many might not think Corretto is really worth the visit. Which is fair enough. I’ve just found a dish I really like, and I’m more than happy to just stick with it.

C and I wanted to have a quick meal on Lygon Street before seeing a film at the Nova Cinema. And C wanted a restaurant that had gnocchi on the menu — we didn’t have to walk far on Lygon St. to find one. We were able to eat out doors for the first time this year after C saw that no-one smoking at any of the adjacent tables. I had a pizza, a very small pizza as it turned out, from their gourmet pizza menu. It was a nice pizza but it was very small and apart from the fresh tomato and fried calamari not very gourmet. C, who does not have a large appetite, had the entrée gnocchi with pesto sauce that she enjoyed. It was very pleasant place for a quick meal, the service was efficient and friendly and we had plenty of time to get to our film. As we were leaving I notice that there was a model Ferrari racing car hanging from the ceiling just inside the door. It must be run by Italian Ferrari fans — that are so typical of Lygon St. — it would be the ideal place to take a Ferrari fan.

How does one distinguish themselves from every other Italian restaurant on a street that is purely dedicated to, well, Italian restaurants? The answer is obvious, you just hang a Ferrari from the roof. That’s what Café Corretto did and I never head anywhere else when I need my late night pizza fix, or pasta fix, or I just any kind of carbs in general. These guys are open late, your food comes out fast and they don’t mind if you’re a bit boozy and rowdy. I ordered three large takeaway pizzas at 230am from Corretto’s on Saturday night, I also have been there for dinner at a more normal time too. The food is good not great, but I doubt you’d be popping in here for anything more than a quick greasy meal. So, next time you’re craving something to soak up the beer, head to Corretto’s not Maccas!

This place has the vibe along the Italian restaurant street in Melbourne, known as Lygon St. The pizza was good, cheap and cheerful. Service was quite fast. Food was reasonable.
