The after training feed has always been Phở Hien. The latest trip there was my third visit. FOOD I had been craving for Rice Paper Rolls(3 for $ 6.00) since the start of the day and so had a very light meal for dinner. The others got the Spicy Beef and Pork Soup with Thick Rice Vermicelli($ 8.00) and the Pepper Beef Cubes on Tomato Rice($ 9.00). I only wanted prawns in my rice paper rolls and so requested for the pork to be taken out. This could have been a mistake though as I then felt the proportion of vermicelli to meat was no longer right. I think next time I might stick with the DIY Sugar cane prawns with steamed vermicelli sheets and salad($ 11). I had a taste of the spicy beef and pork soup. Definitely spicy! For drinks we got the strawberry shake and jackfruit shake. The strawberry shake tasted quite artificial to me. The bright pink colour highlights just how artificial it probably is. The jackfruit shake was mediocre. Not a strong enough jackfruit taste as there should be which probably means they had limited jackfruit to put in the shake. Friends have said the quality of their shakes is inconsistent and dependent on fruit stock levels and how generous they are feeling. On a side note a favourite of mine would be the Asparagus Soup($ 5). Who knew asparagus could make such a tasty soup! SERVICE Food is served rather quickly here. Tea and sauces are readily available at the table and you pay at the back counter. There isn’t really any value add in having exceptional service at this place as what they have now is sufficient to run the business on. An interesting point though is they have big tv screens that always seem to be playing someone’s concert. Yesterday night was a Christmas special! VERDICT Food is decent, portion size is reasonable, prices are cheap, opening hours are long. Great place for a simple, quite and cheap dinner at virtually any hour.
