I mainly drop in here for a muffin or another tasty baked snack. This week I stopped in for a slice of Fleur De Lys cake, one of many cakes on offer. It was delectably rich and chocolatey, but the atmosphere here isn’t that great, if you sit inside(it was drizzling rain). I’d recommend paying the cheaper take-away price and eating elsewhere.

Good cakes and coffees. Pleasant staff. Too many crazy kids running amok in the square, though. Edit 6 May 2015: I’ve increased my rating by a star. The staff are very friendly and they refill my tea, letting me work here as long as I like. They smile and greet customers warmly. The pastries are consistently good.

I knew Pattison’s years ago when they opened their first shop and have shopped at their bakeries on numerous occasions over the years. I used to love their bagels, cakes and of course pies. Coffee is also good and this branch in cammeray is no exception. They have a good selection of breads, pastries, cakes and pies. Staff are friendly and helpful. Coffee is good and I would happily come back again.

First visit, and it won’t be my last. The cakes are yummy and I’m turning a coffee into dinner

I have to keep a safe distance from Pattison’s — the cakes are too good. But this weekend I had a good excuse, a family birthday and I was charged with bringing the cake. With no time to bake, Pattison’s in the new(ish) Stockland Cammeray was my best bet — and while I’m there, oh why not stop and have a coffee? This has become one of my favourite from the Pattison’s family. The décor is high spec and fun, and the light streaming in from the courtyard only adds to the delightful ambience. What a wonderful place to come and fetch a baguette, a fruit tart, or something a sight more rich: I opted for the Choc Brûlée cake — oh so rich but oh so good! My skim cap had way too much chocolate on it(I know, I know, but you really can over chocolate a cappuccino!), and the milk was a bit thin, but the taste was good. I’d probably opt to ‘caffeinate’ at Simmone Longue across the way, but Pattison’s is quite the delectable one stop shop.

We were running late for the meeting, but it was a pretty lax event and there were others caught in traffic, so we took this as an opportunity to make a sneaky snail run to Pattisons Boulangerie.(I know what you’re thinking, snail run? That’s an oxymoron. What? You weren’t thinking that? Oh, okay. My apologies.) My friend and I surveyed the cakes and macaroons, the tarts, the pastries. The bread was there too but we weren’t interested in the dough, only in the sweet stuff this morning. He more than I, but I was there for moral support. He chose a snail, a classic in the pastry world, that sugary glazed french inspired treat. Good with coffee or on its own. I’ve had a fruit flan from here before as well, an amazing bakery sweet. Fresh fruit on a custard filled short bread base. While you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking, wow sounds great, what’s the catch? Well as the name, Boulangerie, suggests, it’s not cheap. It’s a boutique bakery, catering to finer tastes. It’s not your run of the mill bread shop, but rather something for a special occasion or when you’re happy to forgo your house repayments for that week. You’re probably thinking, ‘it can’t be that expensive, a house repayment is likely to be thousands of dollars’, you’re right, but it’s more expensive than say a generic bakery, but much more tasty and elegant. (What’s that? Oh, you weren’t thinking that either? My apologies again.)

This French patisserie make very appealing cakes, tarts, quiches, pies, bread and macaroons this is for sure. The décor is equally impressive with a comfortable couch seating, lots of glass and mirrors and dark wood colourings to give a warm intimate feel. But the coffee… not so flash. They do use gold standard Arabica beans and roast their own(which they also sell in take home packs) it just didn’t hit the mark for me. A tad bitter and the soy milk was slightly burnt. Saying that you don’t really come here for the coffee or the service — it’s all about the home made sweet treats and pastry delights! My picks are the Vanilla Bean Pistachio Cupcake, Traditional Cheesecake with poached spiced pears and chocolate sticks, Chocolate Hazelnut Flourless Cake, and the home baked Gingerbread Men. Yum!
