Great fresh food and being at the Eagle St Pier has a great location. It is good quality and certainly value for money. With a beer in hand and I spicy burrito, it’s a great way to get some nice filling spicy food in a good location.

I do love me some GYG’s and this one is extra special because it is by the Brisbane River so there is a lovely view! Their menu is great quality across the board and doesn’t really vary from other locations. I grabbed a burrito bowl(because I stupidly didn’t see that there was a salad bowl!!) without rice and beans and with a half serving of guac and was pretty stoked on life with how fresh and flavoursome the ingredients were! Definitely a solid, cheap lunch choice.

If you’ve been to any other of the bazillion Guzman y Gomez stores across Australia you won’t find anything especially different about the Riverside Guzman. Except maybe that it is right by the Brisbane River so you could be tempted by ordering your meal take-away and eating it by the water. It’s a solid option when you want something reasonably cheap to eat. I rotate between a chicken mini burrito for 5 pesos, the barramundi burrito bowl with guacamole($ 2 extra) or the steak salad bowl. All leave me change from $ 20 and a happily satisfied stomach. This isn’t fine dining in terms of white linen table cloths and wines matched with your meal but it is fine take-away and/or casual eating.

I thought I would try one of their salads because it was a pretty humid sticky and hot day. So I ordered the Chicken Guerrero(Mild) and when I bracket Mild, there must have been some(spicy) mixed in there because there was a bit of heat in the sucker! I liked the freshness of the salad and I am a sucker for a good tomato salsa which in this case was quite nice. The corn chips and guacamole were really nice to snack on as well… and there is something to be said about a fast food mexican place. It’s to be said… it is just that, a pretty fast food mexican place on the slightly gourmet line of things. The prices are reasonable for anything you would pay in the Southbank area, the food is fresh, fast and you do feel pretty satisfied afterwards. A great little treat, but nothing too spectacular.

GYG is definitely worth a visit, if you’re after some quick, reasonable priced and filling food. They do offer 2 different sizes and if you’re after some«light» food I’d definitely recommend the mini burrito! You can also choose between white and brown rice, add your guacamole and enjoy. There are some sauces and fresh coriander on the side as well to add to your liking. The shop itself is really clean, staff is really friendly and efficient. With that grab yourself a frozen margarita or sangria and enjoy it with a nice river view!

GYG commands a strong following and the long line may deter some people but any regular knows that the line moves swiftly and within minutes you will be enjoying a Mexican treat. The Burritos are delicious but are extremely generous and filling so if you are looking for something equally delish but a bit lighter grab a Burrito Bowl. Do yourself a favour and add brown rice and guacamole. Yum!
