I do enjoy the atmosphere of this bar overlooking the Brisbane River. They have an extensive list of cocktails and a relaxed but polished vibe. It’s warm with a slightly Moroccan vibe that balances well with the wide open views of the water. The service is always great, but be warned, this can be a hot spot and you may have to wait for a drink on busy nights. I have enjoyed every cocktail I’ve sampled here and will return again when in the area.

This funky blue theme spot overlooks the Brisbane River and Storybridge. With petite low tables and lounge chairs this is the perfect place to chill over a drink. They have $ 20 meal and wine offer for lunch. However it is a little awkward to eat considering the choice of table and chair wares. Both the food and service is good. I will be back.

A little overrated imo. Nice enough but looked like they were trying to close the place down at 11 on the friday night before christmas. No wonder Brisbane still gets a hard time from the southern capitals :(

Came today for Mothers Day lunch and drinks. Ordered some share plates and wine by the glass then sat back and enjoyed the view. The food and drinks arrived promptly and courteously. All of the food was excellent, and the drinks went down well. The view is one of the best in Brisbane, and the open air deck creates a perfect ambience. I would highly recommend Mr and Mrs G’s for a casual and relaxed lunches with a few drinks. Maybe I’ll try the cocktails next time!

Walking along Eagle St Pier we landed here mid afternoon on a cool, calm Brisbane day. The immediate drawcard is the unbroken view of the pier and river. Full length windows were opened up today which allowed a cool breeze to run through the place. I was surprised to receive the level of table service we did here to be honest. We were one of 4 groups of people(all groups of two) in the place. Nice start. Waitress explained that they had been experimenting with cocktails and that we should give them a try. My wife did and said both were good. Nothing standout, but solid. Service was great throughout. Glasses cleared, extra drinks offered, remembering what we’d each had last time. We didn’t order any food on this occasion so I can’t comment re. this. Décor is cool and comfortable. We stood by the open window and sat on the comfy, clean cushioned lounge chairs the other half of the time. The music was a bit pedestrian in here during our stay but didn’t detract from our visit. If this is the worst thing I picked out I guess the experience otherwise was pretty spot on overall. Would recommend here for a casual drink after a wander along the pier or for after work drinks and light nibbles.

The lady and I arrived at about 10pm for a night cap. It’s a standard sort of place for Eagle Street, white walls, glass everywhere and everyone dressing like they’ll bring back their teenage years if they try hard enough. Our bartender was surprisingly attentive, asking what I like in a whiskey sour, and then discussing different regions of the world and what impact on flavour I can expect from each one. I was invited to sample a liquor before I ordered, and that was certainly appreciated. The drink itself was good, and the lady enjoyed her ‘Dark Horse’ a house special. Really though, the view is what makes Mr & Mrs G’s worthwhile. There’s something inherently great about kicking back in a recliner and watching the lights twinkle on the story bridge, sipping a pretty great cocktail, and soaking it all in.

I made a deal with myself that I was allowed gluten today to try Mr & Mrs G’s grand sandwich selection. Your not the boss of me so no judgement! It was pretty much worth it. Opting for the garlic scented lamb shoulder with panzanella salad, labna quenelle and balsamic dressing, I’m confident I won best sandwich choice amongst our table considering it was also the cheapest at $ 14.50. This pitta was bursting with tender, fresh roast lamb that was gently hugged by the supporting flavours. Sure it left me feeling totally satisfied but I didn’t feel heavy. Just content. Service still lacks here a little for me when the side of sauce my dining companions ordered didn’t come until after they’d finished and when looking at their choice of a rare roast beef sandwich, I did struggle to see the $ 16 value. Still, it’s a decent and perfectly casual lunch for under $ 25 if you pair with a bottle of sparkling mineral water and the river views? They’re free.

19÷1÷2013 — «Quenching thirsts» Mr and Mrs G Riverbar is the latest baby by Il Centro owners Andy and Marcia Georges, opening mid 2012. It sits directly in front of Il Centro and has one of the best Riverside views in Brisbane; perfect for schmoozing out-of-town guests, or for pre-dinner drinks, as well as any occasion really; for quenching one’s(alcoholic) thirst. Although they do have a small selection of food(mostly tapas style) this particular night was just about the drinks. Inside looks pretty funky, colourful lounges, bright cushions, low hanging lights over some oversized looking vases, as well as a personal touch added to the décor. On one of the walls towards the bar(past the low hanging lights) there are photos of Andy and Marcia’s early life in Brisbane. We found a comfortable spot in one corner of the room, and asked the waitress walking by if we could have the wine & cocktail menu. She was less than enthusiastic, probably tired of not being allowed to drink on the job. Perhaps I’d probably be the same. After a few minutes, without anyone coming by with the menu,(maybe the staff got lost on the way to enjoying the views?), I decided to get myself one from the bar. At least it gave me the opportunity to test if I was«legless». Nope! Time for a cocktail! We ordered Long Island Iced Teas, and a couple of glasses of their Rieslings. It was a nice way to finish off the night and appreciate Brisbane’s burgeoning bar scene, and of course the Story Bridge illuminating the river. It’s not overly crowded on this particular night and the atmosphere seems a little subdued for a bar. I can’t recall if there was background music playing as our small group was engrossed in various conversations. If there wasn’t, background music would enhance the bar’s atmosphere. The prices are a tad high($ 18 for a standard cocktail), especially considering the service we received or lackthereof. Mr and Mrs G Riverbar is a great spot, still finding its way perhaps, but hopefully the service can complement the venue’s stylish interior in future visits.

Great place for a tasty pre-dinner cocktail down by the Brisbane river. Be prepared to spend a little bit of money, but the flavours are fabulous and the bar snacks a delicious bite. The music didn’t quite match the service and the atmosphere of the location, but really that’s my only criticism.

Hubby and I went to Mr and Mrs G’s last Friday. It’s on the tip of Eagle St Pier; where there used to be a gazebo, they’ve closed it up to turn it into a cocktail bar. You can get to Eagle St Pier by any public transport and then hoofing from Central Station or any of the littered bus stops in the CBD, or you can catch a cab, or there is onsite parking(hefty unless you park after 5pm). Ambience *** Mr and Mrs G Riverbar is owned by the couple responsible for Il Centro’s success. This is obvious as you first approach the bar by the sight of the frosted glass panel fencing surrounding both venues — and if that’s not clue enough, go visit the website. If you’ve never been to Il Centro, it’s worth a visit. If you’ve visited in the past, it’s worth a revisit — they’ve given it a bit of a facelift by the looks of things. Back to Mr and Mrs G’s. The small cocktail bar is tidily outfitted with a scattering of four-chaired tables, scalloped one-seater lounges and stools at the bar. It has sweeping window views which have come to be expected on Eagle St Pier(who wouldn’t take advantage of the view?), and while looks open and outdoorsy thanks to the clever use of lighting, reflections and Moroccan textiles, is climate controlled and quite tightly spaced. On a Friday office exodus, the bar was packed with trendy socialites. Relatively new, the Riverbar still attracts a large crowd based on curiosity alone and doesn’t fail to impress. I heard La Roux’s In for the Kill Skream remix while there which put a smile on my face; a cool tune well set to the atmosphere. But in the end it was too squashy, the air conditioning had to be hiked up to deal with the mass of hot bodies, and had max capacity been set a little lower(not likely for the transients moving from bar to restaurant), I would have enjoyed the setting and stayed longer. Service ***** Amazing. I have never stepped into a packed bar to be immediately greeted by a wandering waitress. It was our first time here, and that was picked up on by our bemused expressions as no sooner had we ‘umm’ed were we handed two drinks menus. Another reason to smile! Hubby found our group of co-exodusees and we took up a couple of brightly coloured basket seats. I knew I wanted a cocktail but that was as far as I’d gotten. I settled on a ‘Clockwork Orange’, and accompanied hb to the bar where we were served quickly considering the crowd. Why is it that people like congregating ON the bar? We stood at the very edge, ordered drinks and then were shooed back to our table as the drinks would be brought to us. You mean I don’t have to stand around waiting for my inconvenience of an order? I’m in! About five minutes(probably less) after my glass was empty, a waiter came along for the glass and asked if I’d like another. Er, cocktail table service? I can officially die happy. Drinks ***** I have to give 5 stars here; my cocktail was luscious. A ‘Clockwork Orange’ is a perfect Summer beverage. I had to stop myself quaffing it in one gulp as it came in a martini glass and I had to savour every sip. I only ended up having the one drink; my mood didn’t warrant staying much longer than what I considered socially acceptable before retreating for the night. From that first experience and the look of the extensive cocktail menu, though, I know I could go back for more, and more, and more, and more! There is a food menu, too, however being a busy Friday night I wasn’t about to trouble myself with a plate to be shared amongst ten others, nor the inevitable chicken wing eating style sitting on the little stools at a table would require. Overall On another occasion, I could spend 3 – 4 hours, and a good $ 100 or so on myself alone. It is a bit pricey for drinks, but you don’t go to Eagle St Pier expecting to come away with a heavy wallet. I don’t feel I was overcharged for the quality of the drinks and service received. I would love to come back to sample more concoctions and try something on the food menu, and will have to make a special effort outside of the busy ‘after work’ periods to head down. What I would like to see is a stronger connection to Il Centro — made famous by its signature dish(Lasagne Alla Granseola) — why not a cocktail with a similar impact? If it is already there, it’s not obvious enough.
