The chicken karaage Bun bowl was fantastic, authentic dressing, fresh and tasty, the contrast of textures between the crunchy chicken and salad against the soft noodle is a winner.

My previous review raved about the value for money at Soonta. But my opinion has changed. The prices have increased and, whilst the salads are still tasty, the cold rolls are bland and the banh mi not very generously stuffed. I really need to brake the habit and lose my Duchess title here, because I no longer see it as something to rave about.

Love this place. Food always fresh and service is fast and efficient. Menu is limited but I’ve never found that too much of a bother. Get here early to avoid the lunch queue. I’m happy to recommend Soonta and I will definitely keep returning.

Bun bowls are the winner here, but they have a minimum for card. Little disappointing to have that these days. Although a good place to grab something quick and easy. Tried the pork belly bun bowl with sweet chili sauce.

Soonta is your go to for a VMR in the mall, they’ll even convince you to get 3 spring rolls that you don’t need, just to get over the EFT minimum. Super tasty and fresh salad, with warm meats in a crispy roll to transport you to that happy place. You’ll convert your subway loving friends in an instant.

Soonta is one of the original joints in Adelaide boasting fresh, fast lunch-friendly Vietnamese options for the large hungry crowds before the recent wave of popularity for a taste of fresh Vietnamese flavours in the forms of banh mis, cold rolls and bun bowls. From what I know it has been doing pretty well as they now have at least three stores in the city. Their little lunch bar in Rundle Place is super bright, clean and inviting. Their menu is also simple, to the point and very affordable with most items well under the $ 10 mark, however, they currently have a great value lunch menu deal in which you can get one banh mi, three spring rolls and a drink for only $ 10.50. Talk about value yeah?! I grabbed the grilled chicken roll and it’s basically like most other banh mi joints in which you step along the counter as the worker places the veggies, meats and condiments according to you preferences. Maybe it was end of the day I don’t know but the worker that was making my roll looked really bored and angry and did not even crack a smile. I work in hospitality so I understand it must have been a long, hard day but would it really kill someone to try to fake a smile and speak a little louder? I had to ask the girl several times to repeat what she asked me because I could not understand her purposely dull voice. Anyway back to the banh mi. it’s not much different as to what you would get at Sit Lo or Miss Mai. It is really delicious and the fillings are ample and for the city it’s good but you really can’t compare it to the joints serving up the real deal in the North. I do give them extra props for that really good traditional Vietnamese style butter. Soonta is cheap and tasty, I guess I will be back, why not?

I tried the salad — can’t recall the name, but it’s the one with meatballs. It’s tasty, it’s super cheap, it’s healthy. But it’s not kinds of «wow-oh» restaurant.
