I love dumplings. And Dumpling Kings serve you great dumpling. I love cheap dumplings. And Dumpling King serves you cheap dumplings. I love quick dumplings. And Dumpling King serves you quick dumplings. Nuff said? Nuff said.

I’ll admit that my last review to this place is a bit harsh… To many of those fast-food style Chinese restaurant, order and take away is a better option— we can’t ask for both environment and tasty for a place where the dishes are usually around $ 10. I ordered two take-away dishes at one night so I didn’t dine in, which I’ll admit put everything aside, their food is not that bad. The two dishes I ordered were both stir-fry, they’re good combinations of meet and vegetables, covered in delicious thick sauces, they’ll definitely become a nice dinner with rice. It’s stupid to ask for a place something beyond itself, now I’m just happy when it did its job.

Best El cheapo Friday lunches. Great service and very efficient and quick. The staff are usually students from China and don’t have great command over English so don’t twist and turn and change the order from the usual. Just say the number on the menu card and you are all sorted. Good food and your wallet will still love you after that.

Bad place for eating alone. If you sit in a table for 4 before even the place gets busy and be filled by workers, you have no chance of finishing your meal. This is because you will lose appetite when the crew Points at your table to incoming customers and say these new customers can sit beside you without even telling. I have no problem of strangers sitting beside me but at least I should be informed first. It’s like a disrespect, you know? They don’t have eftpos so make sure you bring enough cash or else they won’t serve you. Food is so-so and there are better ones in Chinatown. This place actually puts Chinese food into shame with the cheap-tasting dumplings. Well we cant really complain for the price that it comes with.

You are the king. I travel to Adelaide for work and make a point to lunch here every time. Great selection(still trying to get to all the awesome sounding meals) but the basic dumpling soups are great. So great that I always leave with a burnt tongue. Beware the broth is hot, but you will be so keen to eat that you will burn your tongue.

Cheap dumplings that taste great, and a chilli oil to die for. When I say cheap I mean it, but they’re delicious. The furniture is straight out of a food court and the food is served on plastic plates and bowls. Not the place to take a girl on the first date but definitely a great place to meat some friends. If your like me and just cant get enough you can buy frozen dumplings and the amazing chilli to take home to cook up as a midnight snack!

One of my guiltiest pleasures. Where else can two people have dinner and drinks of good quality for $ 15? Nowhere! Hot and sour soups, big plate of dumplings with loads of hot spicy saucy goodness on top and you’re ready to take on the world. Quick, delicious food!

Don’t expect a slow, relaxing meal here because Dumpling King is one of those places where you get in to have a quick meal and then get out. It’s usually very packed during lunch time with a lot of the corporate workers coming down here with their co-workers but during other times it’s not too bad and the wait for a table isn’t long at all. Personally, I am a huge fan of Dumpling King because as a poor uni student it’s everything I could wish for. Servings are large, dishes are both filling and tasty, and most importantly of all it is very kind to my very under weight wallet. I find communication not a problem at all and the service is quick and efficient. I also like it how they have an open kitchen so you can see what’s going on and you know that the food you’re about to be consumed is prepared in a clean environment. Although I recommend to stick to the King William joint because I find it’s a lot more cleaner than the one in China town and also you won’t be in a surprise for some extra ‘protein’ in your meal. I have been to the China town on numerous occasions when my friends have found insects, yes that’s right insects, in their meals. Another friend once found pieces of plastic in her dumplings. Apparently it’s a common occurence at the China town joint and if you bring it up to the waitress she’ll just merely bat her lashes and stare at you.

The best place in the city for budget dumplings by far, Dumpling King really does rule them all! I’ve only ever had the el cheapo option of 15 pork dumplings for $ 7.80 and on these multiple occasions I have been more than happy with my choice of cheap, quick and healthy(ish) take — away option. With enough to nibble on for two people this serving size is decent and tasty. I’ll have to put in some effort to try something different next time, but I gotta say, those 15 dumplings for such a low low price sure are mighty tempting! Yum Yum!

Oh happy times are back!!! I have just consumed a huge volume of tasty pork dumplings that were steamed and then dry fried to crisp the base up!!! I also consumed an almost equivalent amount of hot chili & onion relish(painful times await! :0) I thought this combo was delicious and will return to taste the rest(if I don’t turn into a massive dumpling myself in the meantime!!!)

My review is definitely in the minority. I’ve sampled plenty of dumplings around Adelaide and I’ve found that there are some great places to get very good dumplings, especially around the Adelaide Central Markets. Dumpling King isn’t one of these places, and I’ve sampled it enough times to know. Their fried dumplings look and taste burnt like they came off a overheated bbq plate. I ordered their noodles and pork sauce once and found it tasted like overcooked spaghetti with minced beef and gravy. Also, everything in the shop feels like it is coated with thin film of grease, including the menus, tables and other surfaces, making it all fee unsanitary and grimy. I’ve taken a couple of friends to DK on different occassions and they’ve all walked out in disgust without finishing their meal. The only thing I can see going for Dumpling King is its price and speed of service, which is why I gave 2 stars instead of one. I guess its good for students or workers on a budget. However, I think you can get better dumplings at the food court in the Central Market for around the same price.

I much prefer the China Town outlet in terms of cleanliness, but the food seems identical at both locations. This is handy if you’re on a quick break and heading to the China Town outlet is a bit much of a walk! I come here for dumplings only — they are so yummy that the grubby surrounds are somewhat tolerable! Both steamed and fried are yummy and the home made chilli paste/chutney/not sure what you’d call it! on each table is a nice accompaniment. Prices are cheap which is only fair given the? surrounds. I’ve taken 2 points off due to the notable lack of cleanliness — I’d give the China Town outlet a 4⁄5!

Massive Serves of delicious dumplings is my primary cause to visit the Dumpling King. The fairly recent addition of the Dumpling King is a real gift to city workers, although, without the previous kilo burning treck to Gouger st to get your dumpling hit, we may all end up the fatter for it. Dumplings aside, Dumpling Kind also serve up a wide range of other dishes, including some really good noodle soups and fried noodle dishes. I really like the outdoor eating are at the King William St Dumpling King. I’ts down a lane way and a bit scungy, but has a semi punk rock aesthetic to it. The interior on the other hand is a bit more slick and manufactured.

This is a busy yet friendly and efficient eatery in the heart of Adelaide CBD. I often duck out to this place when I’ve forgotten to bring my lunch to work and fancy a substantial but healthier takeaway option. There’s a good range for meat eaters and vegetarians but always go for the steamed, green vegetarian dumplings. They always arrive piping hot. I never have to wait long, usually only 10 minutes or so, although if I do visit it’s usually late afternoon when the rush has died down. It’s still usually busy though. If you’re unsure what you fancy then the pictures of food available displayed on Dumpling King’s walls should help.

Bargain in terms of food per kg… the«Miscellaneous Meat Monarch» rules! The city centre Dumpling King has the same gourmand menu and signature red tableware as the original Chinatown cheapeatery. The main difference is that the King William branch has better service and presentation to cater to the lunch crowd. Most notably, the small army of dumpling makers work in plain view, not behind a creepy sheet of one-way glass as in the original. With such cheap food, it’s settling to see it made. Big time credibility boost. Also, there’s staff directing traffic during lunch, greatly improving efficiency as the(Dumpling) King of King William lunch spots packs out. What I particularity like about Dumpling King(this goes for both locations) is how they’re not afraid to undo their belt and let their giant doughy gut hang out, so to speak. For instance, one main is called: «Dumplings in Chili Oil.» Most restaurants would try and hide the fact their dumplings are floating in oil. Not Dumpling King.
