Citi Zen is one of my favourite Yum cha restaurants in Adelaide. Not only do I come for the food, I come for the ambient as well. It is more spacious and has better service than the others.

Yummy CHA. One of the good places to head to lunch with a group of friends and pig out on some very nice Yum Cha. From the basics, Dim Sum and Dumplings through the salt and pepper squid and congee and many things in between, even dessert favorites Mango Pudding and sweet egg tarts. Of course, the more people you take, the more tastes you can sample. We had a private room for 10 of us, and we were not neglected at all.

We visited Citi Zen for my first Yum Cha experience and it was great. We booked in at 1:30pm on a Saturday — but I think next time we’ll book in earlier as I’ve been told that their Yum Cha settings start from 11:00am. Arriving towards the end of the Yum Cha seating meant that they stopped serving a lot of the savoury food from around 2:00pm. However, there is a steady stream of food so you definitely won’t go hungry. We ordered our dessert with the waiter, but I think they usually bring dessert around with a trolley too. The fried ice cream was a hit with our table — and definitely the best fried ice cream I’ve had. The salt and pepper squid was amazing — our table had four servings! The staff are friendly and the service is great. I really enjoyed this Yum Cha experience and will definitely visit Citi Zen again.

Chinese food at its best; not your normal deep fried Chinese food. Had steamed Murray cod, fresh and tasty, prawns, beef, green veggies, hot and sour soup, and no room for dessert!

Weekend Yum Cha!!! What is not to love about continuous food flowing to your table until you are too stuffed to eat even another grain of rice? All of the dumplings are delicious — fresh, hot & tasty! Our table pretty much sounds like this… Would you like… Yes! Would you like… Yes! Would you like… Yes! Would you like… Yes! Would you like… Yes! The service is prompt and continuous with staff always willing to accommodate special orders«more chilli squid please»? Great wine options with a HUGE cellar which doubles as a work of art. You must must must book for weekend yum cha because without a booking you may spend hours on the sidewalk watching the never ending stream of happy customers. Highly recommend it. But don’t go with your tight and/or accountant friend who only wants to pay for what they had — that is impossible! You’ve gotta be prepared to split the bill to a cost per head.

Have done Yum Cha here on a Sunday many a time even though I am not a massive Yum Cha fan. I never know whats good and spend a lot of time confused. I prefer weekdays where you can order what you want. They do a good Hokkien noodle dish. The staff aren’t overly friendly but service is quick and always feels very fancy in the expansive dining room. Only gave 3 stars due to the service, friendly customer service is crucial and it lacks that personal experience. I think because of the high volume if customers you would have to be pretty memorable to be considered a regular.

It was a good experience and nice food but I was surprised that there was no menus. The price is reasonable.

I am a bit sad that Citi Zen took over the old Brecknock Hotel, but I have to say they have done a good job with the layout. It’s very fancy looking with fancy chairs, fancy lighting, and a fancy fish pond with goldfish. This place is also quite big. You may have trouble finding your friends as there are two sides. What I like about this place is that they do yum cha right. They walk around with trollies or plates and ask what you would like, instead of checking it off on a list, and they bring it out to you. That’s how it should be! The downside is despite all of this the food is still pretty average yum cha for such a pretty restaurant. It would be nice to have some fine dining chinese cuisine, if there is such a thing.

I’ve worked near to Citi Zen for a number of months but today was the first time I’d visited the venue– I hadn’t realised how big it was inside! A group of my work colleagues and I decided to dine in for lunch today so this review is only for the lunch session. All of us chose the from the ‘lunch time special’ menu(approx a dozen choices) with most items $ 9, including steamed or fried rice. Service could’ve been with more of a smile, but our drinks were brought out quickly and our food was not too much further away. Serving sizes are great considering the price and my Chilli Chicken was delicious– not too hot that I had to guzzle glasses of water, but enough to give that nice spicy warmth. Others around the table had Satay Chicken, Cashew Chicken and Mongolian Lamb with no complaints coming from anyone. I’m looking forward to coming here for lunch more often!

Yum cha is the name of the game at Citi Zen. Since moving across the road to the old Brecknock Hotel, they’ve updated their décor and expanded. Their weekend service offer a number of unique dishes that you won’t find at other yum cha venues. If you’re game, try a bit of everything that they come around with — you may not always want to ask what it is though :) During the week, like most places, your yum cha order is from the menu rather than picking what from a cart/table service so it’s worth having an idea of what you like first. Just be aware that it’s a little more pricey than other places, but the quality is up there.

For a person who is used to eating meat and 3 veg and not being very experimental with foods, I have to admit Citi Zen has changed my eating habits. I first went to Citi Zen for yum cha with my partner and family and was very cautious of what I was going to eat. In the end I was eating basically what ever was put in front of me(apart from the chicken feet) The venue looks great, staff are very friendly and helpful. If your after great yum cha I highly recommend Citi Zen!

Better location, still great food a few teething problems with the service i used to frequent city Zen when it was over the road. the new décor is lovely and the food is always FANTASTIC i always say if a Chinese place is packed with Chinese people you know you’re in for a good thing. The only down side is they seem to have embraced some new technologies like electronic ordering and earpieces for the wait staff but they haven’t quite got the hang of it yet. They couldn’t find our reservation, kept trying to deliver the wrong meals to our table and gave us the wrong bill at the end of the night. I would certainly return but hopefully they get the hang of their new technology sooner rather than later ;)

I’d eat yum cha every meal of every day if it was socially acceptable for me to do so, and I had a little chinese chef living in my pantry who could prepare it for me on command. But for now I have to settle for Yum cha when I can get it. Citi Zen serve up a steamed prawn dumpling that is off the charts, and many of their others dishes also match up to that standard. Anything containing their sticky BBQ pork filling is a winner, as is most of the seafood offerings. The service is fast, and the process of feeding the hungry masses is efficient. This is a great choice for any yum cha connoisseur, or a yum cha novice.

Yum Cha is the word at Citi Zen. They are a good idea for a family lunch outing or a rowdy group looking for delicious steamed buns. It has a comfortable setting in a relaxed atmosphere. The place gets extremely busy so a booking may be required, rightly so considering the quality of food. Despite the the full dining room, the service was attentive and never waited more than a minute for drinks. Godly Dim Sims are at your command here. All bite sized pieces that pack a punch of authentic Chinese flavours. Sweet or savoury, it’ll make your mouth water and make you crave for thousands of them. I recommend any pork dish, its overflowing with succulent and flavoursome juices once you bite in.

Fellow Unilocalers, I write to you this day at least 20% more ‘Festively Plump’ than I was this morning. I am even finding it difficult writing on my laptop, as I have to curve my arms around my engorged belly. I couldn’t be happier! Citi Zen fully rocks the house! The name, I grant you is a little corny when you say it fast, but the food is freaking stupid! Located in the Old Brecknock building(used to be awesome on St Pats Day), Citi Zen is decked out the way a Chinese Restaurant should be, Red(Orange), Gold and lots of cool old looking carvings and vases. The chairs are really comfy too which I think is an area where many restaurants fall down. The menu is the really impressing thing, both because it looks funky and has pretty pictures, but also for the amazing amount of dishes. All of the regular offenders are there plus some extra house specials that you may need to have a super fat wallet to handle. The Sea Cucumber portions for example are pretty steep… too steep for this Unilocaling cat! They have both the regular menu and all day/night yum cha or, like me, you can mix and match. I chose to grab a couple of dishes from the Yum Cha for the entrée(a little cheaper than the dishes on the regular menu), then switched to some ripping share dishes. We had a couple of stock standards, like Garlic Prawns and Sizzling Mongolian Lamb(which were super tasty), but the big surprise came from the crispy skin chicken. The dish comes out looking like a whole chicken, butterflied and sat on. Golden to such an extent that you need don your sunnies just to choose a piece. I kid you not, crispy was advertised and crispy was delivered… Crispy Awesomeness! The Chicken was only beaten(just mind you) by the salt and pepper crumbed oysters, that were little balls of spicy mouth joy that made me wish we had got there earlier and they hadn’t run out(so we only had the half dozen). If you haven’t tried Citi Zen, I feel very sorry for you, but you are probably skinnier than me!
