What better time than Chinese New Year to share where to get the best, genuine Yum Cha in Adelaide. Ding Hao. Awesome. Nowhere else compares. Dive in.

Felt very rushed to order and food came out just as fast, although they forgot a dish… The food was good, but not great. but for the price, it was reasonable.

My absolute favourite place ever!!! I come here at least 3 times a month and it’s always amazing and perfect. My favourite thing to eat here is the fried squid with shallots and chili. So so delicious, I recommend going on an Sunday, such an amazing atmosphere as it’s so busy and loud and just fun! Definitely recommend to everyone!

Ding Hao is one of the most popular restaurants to go to for Yum Cha. If you ask a local to recommend where to eat Yum Cha, they will tell you Ding Hao. You know, I have never been a big fan of Yum Cha. Most of the times I have tried Yum Cha it is all deep-fried, saucy and really sweet. Apart from the odd place that will offer you steamed buns. I am always feeling left with a yearning for vegetables. However, what I have learnt from the best is that Yum Cha can include steamed vegetables. In fact, what I ordered was a side of steamed Asian greens with oyster sauce as recommended by the waiter. I think this will be my refresher part of the meal from now on. Again, due to my preference to keep away from fried stuff I ordered steamed squid with ginger and steamed dumplings. The squid was a little overcooked and rubbery, but did have a nice flavour with the ginger. The dumplings tasted like they had been made on order. They where the freshest tasting I have ever experienced. Well worth the try. Also, it would be worth noting that I have also had great BBC here as well. It is served with not too much sauce and good helping of tofu. If you had not had BBC before, it is stir-fried soy beans served with spiced tofu & pickled cabbage. Really popular dish amongst the vegos in Adelaide.

Ding Hao is a great option for authentic style Yum Cha and one of the few places that do the all day trolley style Yum Cha on weekends, which is perfect for waking up at 1pm and wondering what to eat — why not a lot of everything? Their Yum Cha mainstays are consistently good — I particularly like their radish cake and zhaliang(the chinese donut encased in rice noodle). I can say with certainty that I’ve never had a bad experience here, be it the staff or the food — but it does get a little crowded and noisy, so bear that in mind if you’re coming in during peak hours. Great food, wonderful staff and generous servings all for a fairly good price — Ding Hao is hard to beat for Yum Cha in Adelaide.

A long time favourite for so many Adelaide people. a great place to spend the afternoon stuffing your face on Yum Cha or spending the evening eating the Cantonese delights from the Al A Carte Menu.

Ding Hao is back, Baby! After a couple of years of fair to middling Yum Cha after Star House’s appearance on the scene, I had nearly given up on it. But a friend decided she wanted to go there for nostalgia’s sake and I am glad we did! The yum cha was fast, fresh and tasty. Some was a teeny bit cold after being on the trays but the flavour made up for it. Well done, Ding Hao, you managed to sort yourselves out!

Always good food here — the salt and pepper egg plant is amazing. Last time I went I had left my walet at home. the lovely staff did not make a fuss and organised for me to be able to pay the next day. I’ll be back — there are many more dishes i must try … if i can stop myself ordering the eggplant again.

For YumCha on a weekend, this place is almost as good as it gets for Chinatown. Consistently voted the best Chinese restaurant in SA, Ding Hao appeals to all, at all times of the day. There is a wide variety of Dim Sum, always fresh and hot; and their a la carte menu for the evening even contains kangaroo cooked in chinese sauces if you are into that. The price may be a bit dearer than its neighbour across the road, but this place is a little more upmarket too. If you are looking for your first Chinatown experience, then this place is where you should head. If not to see what all the fuss is about, the food is also very good.

Okay, not going to repeat the fulsome reviews already Unilocaled, but I’ll add my praise. Ding Hao is easily one of the best yum-cha specialists in Australia. You simply have to try everything on the menu. And book, just book, though you can on occasion walk-in during a weekday @ lunch time.

Yum Cha!!! Yeah! You’ll have some awesomely unique experiences at this place, which can get really confusing for those(me) who don’t speak chinese. I got caught out with this once when ordering small meals from their extensive yum cha menu. After ordering about 5 things off of the menu with a friend, we just thought we’d enjoy the experience of the unknown, and when our meals started arriving almost as immediately as we ordered, we thought, ‘well, who are we to question?’ and we started hoeing down. Turns out all the food we ate was for another table that re located. We only realised as more and more food kept coming to our table, and when we were asked by staff, ‘what did you order?’ we had to shyly admit that we couldn’t speak Chinese — and we had no idea. God, we had such a laugh, but the food was really good(whatever it was), filling, inexpensive and unique.

Tick, Tick, Tick… BOOM! Thats how you rock it at Ding Hao for Yum Cha MoFo’s! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll gain 2 – 3 inches around your waist line! Located next to the court house on Gouger Street(in which I have yet to be convicted of anything in… yay for me), Ding Hao is known as one of the top Chinese restaurants in the city. Although the normal menu is nothing to sniff at, it’s all about the Yum Cha! I have noticed that one of my fellow Unilocalers, Andrew C, has named the place ‘Best in Adelaide for Yum Cha’. Energetic and stinging Hi-Five’s coming your way Andrew, becuase I am in full agreement! Everytime I head in there and see that wonderful check list of tantilising bite sized morsels, tears of joy begin to well and the ‘ticks’ begin to fill more spaces than they should! The dumpling casings are soft but firm and the filling is high quality, stupidly hot and ‘heart skip a beat’ tasty. The steamer boxes keep coming, just as you have knocked off the previous one, and before long the weight of your over enthusiastic ordering hits you. Somehow I always seem to battle through and finish every last dumpling and steam bun(I am quite the trooper!). Some days can get busy, so book ahead, but if you are looking for a feed for lunch during the week you shouldn’t have too many problems.

Though I haven’t tried all of Adelaide’s yum cha spots, I can say with certainty that Ding Hao is one of the best. I used to come here on numerous Sunday mornings, and the food never disappointed; nor did the service. I can only speak to the yum cha service provided at Ding Hao. The variety of food is vast and varied, and there’s a lot classics that’ll zoom past your table if you’re not quick to swoop on them. The roast pork is crunchy and delicious; full of fat but worth the calories. The prawn dumplings are excellent, as are the pork buns. In fact, almost all of the items on the carts are good — even the chicken’s feet! I’m not usually a fan of stuff like that, but this place converted me for life. It’s pretty important to place a booking if you intend on going on a Sunday morning or afternoon, as it seems to remain an incredibly popular spot to go for yum cha. Though it does get very packed and loud, let the food take all that worry away. As soon as you dig in, I assure you those annoyances won’t bother you any longer.

I don’t mind this place for yum cha, but if given the option there are other places I’d much prefer to dine at. Their dumplings are nice enough. Fresh and always hot, the flavour of the meat comes through. They just lack the finnese of other dumplings I have tried(but thats just me). I do like their steamed pork buns though, as the BBQ pork filling is sweet and yummy.

Definitely a stand out for yum cha(and yes, I agree that it’s one of the best hangover cures known to man), Ding Hao is probably one of the state’s best in the category, and is easily in my top ten for the country(oh, I’ve had a loooooot of yum cha over the years). You need to book. Like every good yum cha place, if you haven’t booked, you’ll still be standing in line long after the place closes. It’s one of the few places where the food is so good that I’m not cautious about grabbing steamer baskets filled with stuff I can’t identify. And if you know me, you know that I *have* to know what’s in something before I’ll even consider having it. The service is great in comparison to most chinese places. That’s probably not saying a lot though, as many are pretty attrocious. The waiters are pretty quick on their feet, helpful and efficient.

Ding Hao is the best place in Adelaide for Yum Cha. Located at the eastern end of Gouger St, Ding Hao is a traditional Chinese restaurant with a stellar Yum Cha menu and an authentic ambiance. Be sure to make a booking if you plan on heading in on the weekend as this place gets full quickly. Service is in the traditional manner, from carts laden with all sorts of delicious Chinese breakfast goods, until about roughly one pm when further orders must be made off the menu. Ding Hao has a great range of dumplings, fried seafood, steamed buns and Chinese vegetable dishes to choose from. I am particularly fond of the black bean pork ribs and if you are feeling adventurous, try the radish cakes or chicken feet. As you may well know, Yum Cha, means to drink tea in Cantonese, and Yum Cha is as much about the tea drinking ceremony as the food itself. So be sure to to drink plenty of Ding Hao’s fine jasmine tea and enjoy the festive nature of the Yum Cha tradition. Some say the best way to cure a hangover is to head to Yum Cha, and there is hardly a better way to spend a Sunday morning with friends, or family, or both together.
