Wow, wow, wow, what a gem! This place is the bomb, the gelato and ice creams are amazing. Big fans of the Asian flavours, pandan, black sesame, Japanese green tea, taro and omg, don’t even get me started with the best flavour ever, durian! Open till late too and the staff are always friendly and accommodating, haha, there are always pesky customers like me who will find it difficult to choose the flavours or the number of scoops to have

Ummm this place is on Gouger street buttt anyways same dealio. I love any gelato, ice cream place with weird exciting flavours and this is definitely one of the top runners. When you see Durian Gelato you have to try it and then slightly regret your taking risks personality… lucky the lady had a spoon of lemon gelato ready for that palate cleanse! Durian didn’t smell so great and tasted like rotten tropical fruit. The lychee was fresh and would make a killer cocktail! What I ended up picking was the black sesame and honey roasted walnut. The honey roasted walnut was more honey than walnut but that was fine with me and the black sesame is one of my FAVOURITE flavours, what disappointed me though was they had toasted sesames all the way through it instead of just on top decoration which after half just got too intense. I don’t think even with faults of the sesames you can’t fault a gelato place with so many options they have pandan, balsamic strawberry pannacotta, roasted almond and pear any crazy combo you can think of they probably have it. Need to go back and try more, I think I am still finding bits of sesame in my teeth from last night though.

It’s weird because I always walk past 48 Flavors on Gouger Street when I want icecream… and go across the road to Gelatissimo. Not anymore. Not that anything is wrong with Gelatissimo but damn 48 Flavors had me really impressed. Because they have flavours that other icecream places do not have. Actually, for me it’s just 3 flavours in particular. Durian, Taro and Black Sesame. With durian, it’s probably one of the most divisive foods I can think of. People either absolutely love it or hate it. It has a custard-like texture with a rich creamy quality. However the people who absolutely despise it will point out it’s pungent aroma, and pungent it putting it very politely. Basically it smells like rotting fruit mixed with other things. It’s considered the Kind of Fruits in SE Asia and it’s definitely one of my favourites. I wasn’t going to get anything… until I saw the sign saying ‘Durian Icecream– Tasting Available.’ I think my eyes widened a bit and I immediately went to buy a scoop. I tasted before buying and then changed my mind to 2 scoops! It’s that good. The icecream’s flavour 100% matches that of ripe durian, and I was kicking myself that it took me so long to discover it. I’m definitely coming back to try a few more flavours, and to get the durian a few more times. However I may need to sit a bit further away from my friends, because they kept pointing out the smell!

I’m so confused how no one has reviewed this place yet! It is absolutely fabulous and in fact world renowned! As you can see from the photos they were a finalist in the world gelato competition. A competition that my Aunt was also a part of with her Sacramento based store Devine Gelateria, so she was actually the one who told me to come check this place out. And let me say it certainly did not disappoint! The store is a standard ice cream/gelato shop, clean and tantalizing with the array of flavors. But I remember the types of flavors really standing out, from black sesame to versions of candy bars recreated with fresh ingredients. I also got to chat with the owner who was incredibly friendly and when I told him how I was visiting from San Francisco and heard about his shop through my aunt in the gelato community he was quick to offer up the winning flavor Roasted Walnut Honey Crunch exactly how they served it in the competition. I can certainly see why it was a winner! It is a must try. He also let us sample pretty much whatever we wanted and it was all delicious. One after the next, the hardest part was deciding which to pick there were so many great and unique flavors! I will definitely be coming back next time I am in Adelaide, if only we had one in San Francisco!
