Eye examinations — Comprehensive eye examinations, complete with a detailed history, visual acuity, refraction for eyeglass prescriptions, internal and external examinations, evaluation for contact lens candidacy, glaucoma testing and visual fields.

Contact Lens Fitting — The latest (3rd generation) disposable contact lenses are our specialty — high oxygen transmission silicone hydrogel contacts. They are available in all modalities — from daily disposable to monthly, and for all prescriptions — including astigmatism and bifocal. Besides high oxygen transmission, these lenses are more comfortable, moisture, have more flexible wearing schedules, and are healthier for the eyes.

History

Established in 1986.

Dr. Chung is dedicated to providing quality eyecare for the community. Dr. Mark A. Chung and his trained staff take pride in the level of customer service and professionalism that has become their reputation.

We offers a full range of Optometric services, including comprehensive eye examinations, dilations, treatment/​prescriptions for ocular infections as well as allergies, consultation/​co-​management for Lasik and other refractive surgeries.

We stock a full inventory of contact lenses, and welcome hard-​to-​fit patients who were previously unsuccessful in wearing contacts, specifically persons with astigmatism and/​or bifocal prescriptions. We offer all modalities of disposable contact lenses at competitive prices. In most cases, same-​day fits are available.

We carry over 400 distinctive designer frames, including Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Chrome Hearts, Prada, Silhouette, Kata, Gucci, LA Eyeworks, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Persol, Modo, Ralph Lauren, Kenneth Cole, and others.

Dr. Chung’s professional career began in 1982, the same month he graduated from SCCO, cum laude. Sent by his optometry school counselor a few days before graduation, he set out for his very first job interview, and was hired as the «contact lens specialist» for the ophthalmology group of Aronberg, Sharp and Fein in Beverly Hills. When the ophthalmology group disbanded two years later, he set out to acquire more patient and practice management skills by working as an independent contractor in several different office settings for the next eighteen months. Finally ready to create his own interpretation of how a practice should run. The initial mission of the practice was simple and remains so today: to provide the utmost in customer service, extensively thorough eye examinations, and a detailed explanation of your specific ocular condition and treatment options.

Since those early days, Dr. Chung has been very fortunate to serve over 9000 patients, many of whom are still yearly regulars.

I found Dr. Chung through the DGA network, and I must say that I’m really impressed with his expertise. I’m a new patient, but I’ll definitely be coming back because of how easy he makes it all seem. I’m not fond of people being close to my eyes (phobia?), but I felt comfortable and at ease with they way he checked my eyes.
He was thorough with his explanation (my eyes are pretty darn healthy as I recall); He explained what I needed and what I may possibly encounter as the years ahead affect my vision. Dr. Chung is one of the most meticulous optometrists I’ve had since I moved to West Hollywood, and I’m glad I found him and his offices. Highly recommend.
The interior of the establishment is not an eye-​sore either.

Thanks to these guys for having contact lens prices the same as 1−800-contacts AND letting me bring in an outside rx to fill. Got my contacts on Wednesday after ordering them on a Monday! Woohoo!

Note: I was encouraged to leave a Unilocal review by an email I received from the office after my appointment.
This is my first vision experience I had since moving to Los Angeles, but I’ve been wearing disposable contacts for 14 years. I live in West Hollywood and this office came up in my search for nearby offices that would take my insurance. Scheduling was easy and I received a text message reminder about my appointment. I arrived 15 minutes early. There was free parking and I used the time to fill out some basic paper work. I didn’t have to wait long until the doctor came out to greet me. She introduced herself as Dr. Chung and took me back to a room. The whole time I was thinking it was strange, because I remember the Dr’s name was Mark and assuming it would be a man, but I felt like it would be rude to ask. I’ve gone online to their website now and Dr. Chung is a man. I have no idea who she was as I don’t see anyone else’s photo or information on their website. Maybe she was his wife? I don’t know.
That said, she was friendly enough. She seems to know her stuff and we chatted a little. The exam and contact fitting was pretty standard. She recommended that I switch from the bi-​weekly contacts I always wear to the daily disposables.
I don’t have the payment info in front of me but I think the exam only cost $ 10 after my insurance, the contact fitting was another $ 70? and then 6 months of daily wear contacts was several hundred. My final bill after insurance was just over $ 200.
Her receptionist was lovely and super helpful. I did have to ask for a copy of my prescription at the end though. Otherwise I don’t think they would have given me one. The receptionist stamped the signature on the prescription, so I still don’t know if my doctor was *the* Dr. Chung doctor or???
I would probably go back here next time

I have been a patient of Dr. Chung’s for over five years, and I’ve never been happier with my eye care.
When I first came to him, I was wearing contact lenses that were not of the latest technology and my eyes were often red. Other optometrists in the past were reluctant to refit me for other kinds of contacts (I was using soft contacts that you toss every three months), and wanted to charge a considerable fee for a re-​fitting.
Dr. Chung showed concern for the health of my eyes, immediately switched me to a better kind of contact lens, made recommendations for what kind of solution to use, and my eyes started to feel better quickly.
I have a mild astigmatism in my left eye, but he was recently able to set me up with daily disposables, which I love.
My eyes have never felt better, and everyone in the office is very nice.

I can mirror the review of the patient who said that while Dr. Chung is a decent optometrist, his highest priority is to make profits rather acting in his patients’ best interest. I saw him for several years out of convenience since his practice is near my home, but his true motivations became clearer every time so I finally decided it is neither a good value nor in the best interest of my health to continue to be his patient.
He gladly accepts insurance, but tacks on extra fees such as fittings that many honest optometrists don’t tack on or at least disclose ahead of time. One time, I had an eye infection. Rather than referring me to an ophthalmologist, an actual medical doctor instrumented to diagnose and treat eye infections and covered by health insurance, Dr. Chung asked me to pay him $ 200 and he would take care of the problem. Unfortunately, the problem didn’t get better, so I went to an ophthalmologist who made a different diagnosis. I complained to Dr. Chung for misleading me, and to his credit, he refunded the diffuse and inappropriate $ 200 fee. Other issues included that he never gave me a written prescription for either contacts or glasses so he could make me buy initial contacts or glasses from him at a much higher price than you find elsewhere. Almost every time I have seen him, it has led to some sort of dispute or negotiation to keep his greed in check, something that has never happened to me at any other optometrist.
He also tried to bully me into not leaving an honest review about him on Unilocal.I am writing this review now so other Unilocalers can make up their minds why Dr. Chung has mostly glowing 5 star reviews and adverse opinions are largely suppressed. Perhaps more people should come forward.
My recommendation is, if you care about your health and want great service at a great price, go to your nearest Costco such as in Burbank and make an appointment with their optometrist. Costco picks its top-​notch optometrists as carefully as their product selection and offers fair and predictable pricing that includes the fitting. They also offer extra services like cornea scan that Dr. Chung doesn’t, at a total price less than what he charges even without the fitting. They also proactively hand you a written prescription for both contacts and glasses without you having to pry it out of them like Dr. Chung.
The only advantage Dr. Chung has over Costco is his stylish Bamboo interior reflecting his luxurious taste and spending habits that he finances by squeezing his patients. I give him two stars because he is not a total quack, but definitely below average as an optometrist due to placing commercial interests ahead of patients’ wellbeing and then even bullying them not to leave honest reviews.
I feel sorry for the two nice assistants who have to deal with him every day and mitigate the damage he is creating. They are so friendly and deserve a better boss.
I had an outstanding optometrist in the San Francisco Bay Area, and now I have a outstanding optometrist in Burbank. The only disappointing exception has been Dr. Chung.

I am 51 and have been to see three different optometrists in as many years. I have finally found one in Dr. Chung that knows what they are doing. In addition to the fact that I’m having trouble wearing contacts due to dry eye and astigmatism, previous Optometrists never quite got my prescription right or took an approach to correcting my vision which saw results. Dr. Chung handled all aspects of my exam himself which I found to be an attention to detail missing from just about every other Dr. out there.
Also, his office staff are excellent. They made sure that the Dr.‘s instructions were carried out precisely. No attitude — Just help. Such a welcome change.
If you are anywhere near West Hollywood on a regular basis, I can’t recommend Dr. Chung enough.

I have been a patient of Dr. Mark’s for a couple of years now. Having worn glasses since I was a child, I’ve experienced a few different eye doctors and he is the most thorough and thoughtful. He works to understand my life and activities so that my vision and contacts/​glasses truly work for me. And I’m so glad that he introduced me to daily disposable contacts… no more bottles, cleaning, etc. Brilliant! Thank you Dr. Mark.

I saw Dr. Chung for the first time today based on all of the amazing Unilocal reviews. Everyone was right! It was a great experience from start to finish. The gals at reception were super friendly and welcoming. Dr. Chung is probably the best Optometrist that I have ever been to. He is very patient and thorough. He took the time to explain everything he was doing and when through several different options for new contacts.
I could not recommend him higher!!!

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Chung’s for nearly 20 years. It’s worth the drive from Pasadena because of the exceptional professional service. Appointments are on time, insurance verification confirmed, and most important ample time for questions. On the rare occasion when I needed emergency services, the office got me in immediately and facilitated a quick consult with an ophthalmologist.

I recently went to Dr. Chung for an eye exam and was very pleased with my visit. I asked him a lot of questions and he gave me honest answers which was a relief.
I was fitted for contact lenses and they walked me through the proper etiquette of how to put them in and take them out. They were very patient and kind with me while I was learning to put them in (which was not easy!).
Dr. Chung and his team are very professional and I will definitely be returning to their office for my next visit.

I recently had my eye exam, the first in decades, and Dr. Chung was cordial, pleasant, informative, thorough, thoughtful, and professional.
Diane fitted me for my new frames, and I can’t say enough great things about her comforting humor, expertise, and accommodating personality.
It’s too bad that I only need my exam once a year, because it was a true pleasure visiting this wonderful place of business and interacting with the amazing staff. :)

I had been a patient of Dr. Chung for several years. He definitely knows his stuff and has a great selection of glasses. I would still be his patient but for the fact that the last time I went in, he tried to push some incredibly expensive contacts on me and made it difficult for me to get a copy of my contact prescription to use elsewhere. I was disappointed, given the fact that I paid for the exam and prescription and just wanted a copy for the future. I felt as though Dr. Chung wanted to force me to only buy contacts through him, which was not a classy move.

I had my annual eye exam with Dr. Chung this morning and was reminded of how wonderfully knowledgeable and professional he is. I always feel comfortable and at ease in his office, and I know my eyes are getting the best care in town. (He’s also a total dreamboat, which makes my visits enjoyable too…)
His staff — Diane and Bernice — have been with him for years. They’re skilled and friendly and always a delight. He has a wide selection of eyewear, including some great deals on discontinued frames.
Coming to LA from a small town on the east coast, I’ve found it challenging at times to find healthcare professionals that offer the level of personalized care and attention I experienced growing up. Dr. Chung is the exceptional exception — he knows my eyes and he knows me. I wish all my doctors were like him!

Dr. Mark is the nicest guy. Got my contacts from Dr. Mark before LASIK and he still makes sure I’m not going to get a Retinal Detachment from my previously –12 vision. Dr Mark is located at a nice mini mall in West Hollywood with FREE parking! Can’t beat a nice doctor with free parking. Medical Building Parking is normally about as expensive as valeting at a club!
