California Abacus Learning Center (CALC) focus on teaching children how to calculate with abacus & mental math. Abacus is a traditional «calculator» that was used in Asia and still very popular today within the Asian culture. Abacus & mental math is a method of calculating arithmetical problems by imagining an abacus and moving the beads inside one’s mind. It is a skill that was passed down by our ancestors long ago.

By learning abacus, not only can your child be proficient when doing arithmetical calculations, but can as well develop his or her reactions, focus, logical thinking, observation, memorization, and confidence in general. Numbers will no longer be the dull «1,2,3,4.,» but a fun new way of doing math. By building and developing a solid foundation at a younger age, the child will be better developed as the child age.

History

Established in 2011.

California Abacus Learning Center (CALC) has helped many students in building a more solid mathematical foundation, with objectives such as taking students’ fear in numbers away. We have been successful with students of all different ages. From kindergarten to high school, we love helping them all!

Meet the Business Owner

David D.

Business Owner

David Dong, the instructor and founder of California Abacus Learning Center, has established C.A.L.C. in 2011. After many years in practice, David was able to merge between the traditional — do as I say — method with fun and enjoyable mathematical games and practices. We believe it is important for students to enjoy during the process of learning. David has started learning abacus at the age of 4, reaching level Degree when he was 12. Upon reaching Degree, he has started in assisting his instructors in aiding lower level students with abacus & mental math. At age 18, David began his training as a professional, and has been continuously teaching privately throughout the years.
