Excellent Moving and Storage

Had their service to move my 1 BR to another BR. They showed up an hour late, which caused us to catch really bad traffic when driving to my new place and an extra hour in moving time. When they got to my new place and started moving my stuff upstairs, they stopped mid-​way and demanded double the amount we contracted for. I spoke with their boss on the phone, who demanded full payment in CASH before they proceeded, even though they already had my credit info. I negotiated to pay only $ 100 extra, which they agreed. Made me walk in the evening to find an ATM otherwise they threatened to drive my belongings away to their storage space. After an hour and a half of back and forth negotiations (which they were BTW intending to charge me for), they finally moved my stuff upstairs (WITH THE HELP OF MY HOUSEMATES WHO DID HALF OF THE JOB).

Ugh terrible company, they didn’t send boxes on time, I had cancelled date of move changing it 3 weeks before box delivery date, they said I didn’t a actually called me a liar!
I’m 63years old, own a condo for 20 years and am a respected member of neighborhood in Brookline.
Really upsetting and surprising for me, he told the poor girl to tear up my check and take back the boxes.
He has my credit card number so I had to cancel my card. What a dreadful company. His name is David Nir.

I need to speak to the owner IMMEDIATELY before I file a police report. I hired excellent moving and storage for a long distance move. They underestimated by move by $ 600 and I have been waiting for my stuff for over a month! Not only is my stuff not here but nobody will answer or return my phone calls. Its gotten to the point where I feel lke my stuff has been stolen. If I don’t here back by tonight then I am filing a police report and they will be hearing form my attorney. This is the worst experience I have ever had to deal with. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY.

Had to move from a 1 bedroom to another 1 bedroom in the same neighborhood on a Friday morning. I provided Excellent with a detailed (25+ page) inventory of my move, including pictures of everything and an explanation of what needed to be dissembled/​reassembled and they gave me an estimate of 3 hours total for the move (plus another 30 minutes of travel time).
The 3 hours then turns into 4.5 hours (despite, again, me providing a detailed description of everything that needed to be moved) because, well frankly, the guys were slow and just didn’t seem motivated to move any quicker. Moreover, the foreman (one of the three guys who was moving), would disappear for periods of time. Other concerns throughout the move included:
–The foreman asking if we wanted them to wrap the furniture, and seeing our hesitancy given the increased time, reassured us that they would do «minimal padding» to try to keep the time down. Unsurprisingly, «minimal padding» did not occur and they spent a significant amount of time wrapping my furniture in a pretty pokey manner.
–The foreman initially telling us that we needed to pay him by the hour if we went over the original estimate and that we had a flat one hour travel time charge. It took a 10+ minute conversation with the office in order to clear this up to the original agreement of paying by the 15 minutes if we went over the original estimate and a 30 minute travel time charge.
–The foreman telling us that he was going to close out the job before he was done and then asking us to pay him separately for any work done off the books. Required another ~10 minute conversation with the office to sort that out.
In general, these guys did come in the window that they promised and also did move me. But turned a 3 hour estimate into a 4.5 hour job despite the office knowing exactly what needed to get moved ahead of time. Also some sketchiness throughout the move with up-​charging for the wrapping and payment terms means that I would definitely not recommend them for another move.

What a misnomer «excellent movers» is for this company! My experience was anything but excellent. It began fine. When I called and got a quote, the woman I spoke with was helpful and professional. The crew that showed up at my house to load the truck was efficient and polite.
The trouble began on delivery. My move was from Boston to Seattle. I was told that I would be kept informed of the transit and given several days notice of delivery. Instead, I received a call from a VERY gruff gentleman telling me my delivery would be the next day (this call was received at ~5pm) between 1−3pm.
They did show up in the allotted time. However, rude does not begin to describe the delivery crew. They were appalling. Questions were ignored, instructions had to be repeated multiple times (and then were ignored)… Near the conclusion of unpacking it became apparent that the legs to my desk were missing. The delivery guys did not even feign concern. The crew leader just shrugged and walked away.
I called the excellent movers office to let them know. The woman asked that I send an email but said she would verbally tell her supervisor and he would get back to me at once. I sent the email upon hanging up from our call. A week went by and nobody got in touch with me. I called again. The woman was surprised that no one had contacted me and said she would speak with her boss and he would be in touch promptly. In the interim, I found some other items that were damaged and reported those as well. No response. Another week went by. And another. I called again, this time leaving a phone message. No response.
Finally, after over a month, I sent an email saying I would like this resolved amicably but if I was unable get a response, the next call will be from my attorney. This –finally!- garnered some attention.
Overall I was very disappointed with this experience. Not only the damaged items but it was extremely inconvenient to have such short notice of delivery (to say nothing of the rude delivery crew). I would not use this company again nor would I recommend them to anyone else.

Everything I could imagine going horribly wrong with a move — this company made them all happen for us!
They showed up over 2 hours late after we specified clearly over the phone that we only had 4 hours to complete the move. As a result, we had to share the elevator for most of the move, which slowed things down a lot. They never even apologized.
We paid $ 130/​hour for 3 «men». Two of the movers were an old man and a boy — the owner, David, and who we think is his son, Chris (looked about 14 years old). Neither of them worked very hard, each spending time on the phone/​texting while on the clock. My wife and I both worked harder than each of them. It took us a total of 3.5 hours to move the year prior, but with these guys it took more than 7 hours just to move into their storage!
They brought a Budget truck that was too small, which ended up costing us tremendously because they had to make 2 trips (see reviews below by some who had similar experiences). They blamed us, saying we had more stuff than we had said over the phone, but the estimate we had provided was accurate. They also took far too long to find our place and park — time for which they charged us.
The packing materials they used (tape, wrap, boxes, etc.) are marked up tremendously above what it would be in any store. On top of that, they used unnecessary and excessive amounts of these materials to make more money off us. It took forever to unpack our things.
Dissatisfied with the move into storage, we called to complain and met the very seemingly polite women who answer the phones. However, none of them have any sense or decision making capacity. They just kept repeating that we were under contract to use their company to move out of storage, but they couldn’t point out exactly where in the contract this is stated (I read it many times — no such statement exists). We asked to speak with the owner, David, at least 5 times, left messages and even stopped by their office (they initially refused to let us in the door when we showed up). Of course David was not there, and he never took or returned a single call. In the end, it wasn’t worth it for us to make a legal issue out of it, so we were forced to use this company for our move out of storage as well.
In the middle of the move from storage into our new condo, out of nowhere the foreman demanded payment for the full (estimated!) amount (cash or money order only) before they granted us access to the truck full of our property. They were technically within their rights to do this (very small print on the back of the contract), so I had to go to the bank immediately while the clock was running. They initially refused to give a reason for this spur of the moment requisite, but the owner, David, told my wife afterwards that it was because he «doesn’t like me».
Their storage facility and trucks were filthy as evidenced by the dirt and grime on the boxes which messed up the floors of our new condo. They broke, scratched and damaged a lot of our property. One box, clearly labeled «FRAGILE… CHINA» on all sides was completely smashed when it finally arrived from storage — we are still calculating how much this will cost. When I confronted the foreman about the state of our property, he just said with a smirk that they are not liable for anything they didn’t pack (apparently this is a favorite line of theirs — see older posts).
They owed us money afterwards because the estimate they demanded upfront was blown way out of proportion. It took nearly 2 weeks and a reminder phone call to get this reimbursement check sent to us. It finally arrived, but for $ 70 less than the amount very clearly written on our contract (signed by me and them)! No explanation; no corrected invoice; nothing. I called and emailed multiple times over the last week, and they refused to explain or even provide a corrected invoice. The final email I got from them simply said «the check we issued you was [for] the correct amount» and to stop calling.
There are plenty of great moving companies in the Boston area (ranked higher) who won’t make your moving experience miserable. GO WITH SOMEONE ELSE!

I have used this company twice. The first time they sent 3 guys that were extremely good. Fast, cautious and worked in 90+ degree weather in June with only a 15 minute break to eat a few sandwiches I made for them. Was really satisfied.
As such I have recommended them a few times and insisted that my sister at least get a quote from them. She chose them because I spoke so highly of them.
The 2 people they sent this time were horrible. First of all they moved extremely slow to the point that I wanted to carry things up and down the stairs to speed things up. However I didn’t do that since I would be liable for any damage to my sisters stuff or to them if I interfered with their work. The previous movers who moved my sister into the place took half the time for twice the stuff (as we decided to move a lot of stuff ourselves to save money, which we didn’t since they doubled the work).
When they took apart the bed they called me in to show me a portion of the head rest that was damaged so I wouldn’t assume it was them after. It turns out it was them as they didn’t even bother to clean up the broken wood right at the crime scene, which we found when we went to clean up the old apartment.
Another big issue: My sister advised them over the phone that she had an expensive dining room table that they should be extremely care full with. When they arrived she advised them to be care full, they notified her of charges using their own tape to wrap things and my sister said that was fine as long as they were care full. They wrapped everything but the dining room table which they later severely damaged. Ill get to that later.
When we left for my sisters new apartment they asked if they should follow me and I said I would meet them there since I was going to stop to pick up coffee. I got to the other place within 15 minutes (with my stop for coffee) and they arrived 25 minutes after I did. When asked why they took so long they said they stopped for gas and to get a drink and smiled. (25 minutes longer than I took on our time???).
When we surveyed the new apartment to get things in we noticed that the front entrance with the stairway was going to be too small for certain furniture so they would have to use the back entrance which had a long walk way to get to since the car couldn’t park nearby. We agreed they would leave the bigger items to take through there. They proceeded to take the dining room table through there even though we had just established that the big items wouldn’t fit. Granted we were discussing the couches, but I think it would be obvious to anyone that this would include the dining room table. They proceeded to try and get it through by twisting and turning it and n many cases shoving whereas I would hear the wood cracking. After half an hour of trying (and of course damaging the surface of the table with several scratches and a chipped piece) they took it back down and one of the movers asked if I would help him take it apart. I said that taking it apart and putting it back together would take us at least 40 minutes when they could use the back entrance as we had agreed for big items and be done within 5. He left it for the big items and I was right, it only took 5 minutes to carry through there. He was even considering hoisting it through the balcony at one point and I said it wasn’t necessary as the back entrance was level and wide so it would fit easily. I think it was obvious that he was trying to find ways to extend the move and charge us more money.
When they were finally done, I asked them to not put the bed back together as I was afraid they would take another two hours (which was supposed to be part of the move and took me half an hour to put together later since I did not have the instructions or took it apart to know how everything goes together). He then left to go get the invoice from the truck and took literally 10 minutes to come back. I Looked at the time when he left cause I was curious to see what he would put for end time considering how much time they wasted with their drive and with the table that was clearly their fault. He had the ten minutes he took included in the end time as the end time was for when he came back from the car.
I left a voice mail to complain to the company and they called me the next day saying that they would speak to the movers on Wednesday when they were in again and they would call me back. I was telling him what they did wrong and the guy on the phone seemed like he didn’t want to «waste» his time hearing this and told me to send it in an email. At the time of writing this review, Its been 7 days since they were supposed to call me back and I cant imagine what they could do to make this review better as the dining room table they destroyed cost more than the cost of the move.
I would recommend them in a heart beat if the movers they sent for my sisters move were even remotely as good as the ones that handled my move. But after this. STAY AWAY!

I had a very bad experience with this company. They changed the cost of the move significantly after we had started. The manager told the actual mover not to give me my belongings until I paid the additional money. The manager would not pick up the phone on the weekend. They sent two men. One was incredibly hard working. He was gracious and honest. The other one did almost nothing. I hope that another moving company hires the one the worked so tirelessly.

I called a great number of movers concerning our upcoming move of basically 2 sets of bedroom furnture. I didnt go with EM but wanted to share my observations.
Excellent quoted me 3 movers. Most companies will plain not assign you 3 movers (and the associated hefty cost!!!) if they think your move doesnt warrant one! No other company I talked to assigned me 3 movers, one company only had a truck with 3 movers left and turned me away…3 movers is way more expensive than 2, and these companies may have a bit more… integrity?
Yes, everything is in writing, so look extra closely at the estimate they send you. TRAVEL TIME is separate from your standard 3 hour minumim and it will cost you an entire hour’s worth of moving. (+ the min 3 hours– a good thing to keep in mind for smaller moves – essentially a 4 hour minmum). Ive done a lot of small, bedroom furnitute moves and NONE have ever excceded 3 hours.
Also– if you confirm with them via their email. and cancel 2 weeks or so ahead of time, they will be charging your credit card with a 3 hour minimum!
I don’t know how they have 3 stars on here because some of the heinous reviews would scare anyone away.
Granted, I cant say anything about their services, and the girl on the phone was very nice, a good saleperson. but I wanted to share my observations– there are a TON of moving companies in the area, and its really worth looking around.

We had an amazing experience with Excellent moving for a local move in Reading. I picked them because they were the second lowest quote, where the lowest quote had hardly any reviews to go by.
On the day, we were given a 1−5pm window. The movers arrived at 1:03pm.
They worked very hard and took no breaks. They had no complaints about anything. The only thing they would not take was a mirror that is falling apart, it would have needed to be specially wrapped and that wouldn’t be worth it for us as it was a cheap item.
They finished 15 minutes UNDER their time estimate, even though we actually had a bit more on the list than what I’d told them.
The manager of the company was on the job himself, and was very nice and professional.
FYI: We were told by Jenn who booked the move that we had to pay by cash or money order, but it turns out that personal checks are also accepted for local moves.
We have moved 4 times in the past 4 years and this was our best and easiest move. Thank you!

I will go to my GRAVE knowing that so-​called Excellent Moving owes me $ 630 for an insurance upgrade I was upsold but found out later I could never have used!
Don’t be fooled by other reviews that say people are nice on the phone. They’re nice on the phone! That’s easy to do. Look at the whole experience and how many unhappy people are posting here.

I’m assuming this is a trick other movers might pull, so beware of «extra insurance» sold to you emotionally to cover your important stuff… yet it covers NOTHING because the mover’s policy is that insurance only covers what they pack.
Guess who had a move that required nearly zero packing, but was sold extra insurance. The whole truck could have burned to the ground, and nearly nothing of mine would have been covered.
if I had understood that, I would have gone with the free/​included insurance. Why buy extra insurance that won’t cover you? Their claim was that this was explained to me and I knew this. Which means their explanation is that I willingly donated $ 630 to them to NOT cover my belongings any better than the free insurance would (because just about everything was already packed).
To me, a good company would have noticed the part of my contract that said what they were packing as NONE, noticed the added extra insurance, and said HEY we shouldn’t sell this to this person. If we only cover what we pack, and she needs nothing packed, we should be HONEST and not sell her extra insurance.
I made a mistake trusting them. You can say it’s my fault for not reading the fine print enough. But I believe that honest people don’t need to hide things in fine print.
BONUS: Honest people don’t need to send you a credit card authorisation form that says you will NOT cancel OR dispute the charge! They are trying to get you to waive your right to fight them later when you find out they suck.
PLEASE have someone else do your move. Please read all the fine print. This move was very emotional for me, and I believed what I was told. That’s my mistake. Telling me lies is their fault. If I had never been told lies, I wouldn’t have made the mistake of believing them.
EDIT ADDED AFTER THE COMMENT BELOW: He’s lying. Period. Neither he nor anybody on his staff explained this to me. They just let it live in the fine print, hoping I’d miss it, which I did. I had even EMAILED them a picture of my items, which showed a bunch of packed boxes. So they wrote that they were packing nothing.
It takes a special kind of dirty for a company to KNOW they are not packing anything for you, KNOW insurance only covers what they pack, and then use your emotions about your dead grandmother’s antique furniture to sell you extra insurance.
It takes a special kind of dirty to send out a credit card authorisation form that says I agree to not dispute this charge… as if they KNOW you’re going to have a problem with them, and they’re hoping you waive your rights to a dispute before the move has happened.

I am so glad that they chose to respond to this. It gives you all an idea of how you may be treated. His response is on par with my experience. So before I moved, I all of a sudden doubled my inventory for the move? Unbelievable!
What actually happened was that I specifically ordered the biggest truck you have. You showed up with a medium Budget rental truck and told me that your big truck broke down and this was all that you could do.
Yes you offered to make another trip. But you offered to do that with me paying for all the overtime and miles associated with it. Not at all a help for me when its an hour+ drive each way.
I’m not surprised that they would try to put this back on the customer. Its exactly how this whole process has gone… no accountability for anything.

The move took twice as long then the quoted number of hours. I know that sometimes the move takes a little longer, but I believe that quoting one $ figure, and charging almost twice as much, is not fair. They quoted under $ 400 and we ended up paying almost twice as that. This is only a part of this sad moving story.
POSITIVES:
The movers were very careful and hard working when moving the furniture. They were very fast, when moving the pre-​packed boxes and wrapped the couch and the massage chair (anything leather and fabric) very carefully.
NEGATIVES:
When it came time to disassemble the furniture (a bed, an entertainment center and a couch.); it took them almost 2 hours to do just that. In the end, they were not able to disassemble the entertainment center, and left it outside the house, broken. The bed was not assembled very well, and will have to be replaced. We noted it to the foreman, but he said that it will take them another hour or more to do a better job.
SUMMARY:
In the end, we paid twice as much as quoted, for a job that was not completed (new entertainment center is now outside, unusable, and of course we will have to buy a new frame for the bed, if I can not fix it myself.)
I am not happy. I spoke with a supervisor on the phone during the job, and he asked me to pay in full, which we did. They promised us some money back and to make it right, but it has been 2 weeks, and I did not get a partial refund and it seems like it has been empty promises.
Unless they will do a partial refund, and explain why things went wrong, I will never recoomend this company to anyone. There are so many others to choose from.

November 1^st I hired Excellent Movers for a 1 bedroom apartment-​to-​apartment move. All my furniture and electronics were brand new in mint condition since their initial delivery by Jordan’s furniture and Paul’s TV. It took them a ½-​hour just to unscrew the feet from my couch and they said they had to figure it out. It was one simple screw on each foot and took a few minutes to assemble when it was initially delivered. This caused me concern because they’re supposed to be experienced moving professionals.
They’re also very petite in stature to lift heavy furniture and a 55 inch screen TV which wasn’t explained to me why they were pushing the purchase of a third person which would up the cost significantly. There were no boxes to move just a small 1 bedroom apt living room, table and chairs, bed, media chest, and my TV and stereo took over three hours and a $ 100 difference beyond a fair estimate. I actually commented on the way he was carrying the sound-​bar because the face fell off and he carelessly tried to put it back on and continued down stairs where I heard a loud bang against the rail when moving the TV and stereo system. The movers were very very slow stating they didn’t want to scratch my furniture. However, after they left I found my new bed, sofa table, and superior grain leather couch scratched.
Also, my brand new sound bar and speaker system wasn’t working after they last touched it. I actually gave them a generous gratuitous tip and had to keep them longer to plug everything back in exactly the way they found it. I wasn’t expecting it would be broken right after they left and Boston Acoustics tech support said it was broken and in need of repair.
I reported the damage and Excellent movers and they asked me to take pictures and give the value of the damaged items. I provided them with images of the scratches and original receipts with date of purchase.
They wrote me back stating and I quote «Our foreman stated that during your move you said that a previous moving company had left damages to your furniture. After reviewing the damages with the foreman as well as my supervisor we have concluded that Excellent Moving and Storage is not responsible for the damages done to your furniture.
My furniture had never been moved and had only been delivered to one location since purchase, which I have evidence. I am appalled at the lie to try and cover up and the deception by falsely advertising that if they damage my things I am insured. Buyers beware! They said the damage they caused is pre-​existing so they don’t have to process an insurance claim. I wish I had gone with another place because this is a very costly mistake choosing the wrong moving company. The customer service was awful once I had a problem and very unprofessional. Now I am filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau, Attorney Generals office, and consulting an Attorney. I will feel better putting the word out there if I can prevent another new mom or elderly woman from being taken advantage of and having a negative experience by this moving company.

Overall they did the job fairly well. Just left with a lingering thought that they could have sent the appropriate number of movers.

I hate giving bad reviews, but DO NOT USE them. We just used them for a move from Providence to Chicago. We were told our furniture was to be delivered within 2 weeks. They then changed their story and stated 3 weeks. We didn’t receive our furniture until 1 full month after they had picked it up in Providence.
Look them up on Better Business Bureau. We wish we had, and we are only now reading the NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS on the BBB website!!!
Their customer service was not accommodating or helpful at all either! We couldn’t find out why there was a delay or where our stuff was. At first when they were quoting us they were super responsive, but when it came time to discuss reasons for the delay or even an approximation of where our stuff was they were unbelievably unresponsive.
They also upped the estimate by about $ 2000 the day they actually came for the move which was ridiculous. They also asked for a cashiers check and wouldn’t accept other payment which I thought was strange.
We talked to a friend who used his company as well for a move from providence to north Carolina a couple weeks before us and he experienced the same issue– a huge delay as well as some broken furniture THEY were going to charge HIM for! They tried to make it sound like the broken furniture was an extra piece of inventory they had to move!
We originally used them because our friend had told us they had good reviews here – too bad we were both wrong. Horrible phone service as well. I would just use another moving company.

I used Excellent for a recent move and although they arrived at the appropriate and agreed upon time, I WOULD NEVER use them again. Not only did they not bring the tools to dismantle my kitchen table and bed frame, despite me telling them upon booking that I would need these two pieces taken care of, they broke my bed frame and got lost with the truck for 30 minutes on thier way to my new place of residents. And they had a GPS!
So they broke my bedframe and the agreement I signed says anything they break they are liable for. So I tell them that thier movers broke my bed and they want pictures and forms. And when I give them the best I can they say «well that looks rusty and my foreman said he didn’t break it». My bed is only 5 years old and no where near rusty. I can understand not reinburain me for everything if that were the case, but for it to be my bed’s fault? And the agreement says nothing about pictures, I did that to be cordial. It is ridiculous that they would break something and not cover it as agreed upon.
If you value your things, Don’t Use These People!!!

Really, these guys & gals did nothing wrong, EXCEPT miss their arrival time; however, as the last move of the day, my time was not guaranteed… But still a pain to wait for them!
I was doing a quick 1.5 mile move across town. Guys arrived ready to go, assessed my house (a 1-​BR apartment), and were pleased I was as «pre-​packed» as I was (mattresses covered, tables broken down, couches wrapped, etc). From first look to the last box took under 3 hours, and they asked my advice on anything they did not know the answer to. I was thrilled.
I highly recommend this company, but BRING 10 to 20 rolls of your OWN moving tape, they charge a crazy amount for it.

I’m pretty torn here. More like a 2.5, but 3 is a bit much. These guys moved me from Watertown to Newton and did a perfectly fine job, not breaking anything; on time; fairly fast; willing to do whatever it took to get it done. All pretty young, energetic guys. Maybe not the most careful but… they packed the truck like Tetris ninjas and I was happy.
So I hired them to do a corporate move for work. Their quote was a third of what Gentle Giant quoted, so being cash-​concerned, we went with it.
Well, they were almost 2 hours outside the END of their 3-​or-​4-​hour window, and the painter I had watching while they were moving stuff in described them as «clowns.» I guess I hadn’t noticed how rough they were before. Again, nothing broken, but they could have been more careful.
I don’t fault the guys themselves for the lateness, I fault terrible scheduling. This was just prior to the big Sept 1 moving time, so I understand them being busy, but telling me they could make it before 3 and not showing up until 4:40 was pretty crap. And every time I talked to the main office/​dispatch they kept saying «oh they just finished lunch, they’re on their way.» And then «sorry, lunch is taking longer than I thought.» Um…
They actually had a FOURTH move after me that day, but since they didn’t get out of our place until about 8:00, those people had canceled. Gee, I can’t IMAGINE why.
If they could get their scheduling straight, this would be a good deal. It’s far more economical than most (which worries me that they’re not paying their workers very well, though– $ 109/​hour for three guys?) but not worth the hassle if they don’t show up on time, obviously.

Our first «professional» moving experience was awful thanks to these guys. We moved from a 650 sq ft apartment, to another 650 sq ft apartment 3 blocks down the road. With three men, we figured this would not take longer than 2 hours, MAYBE 3 with any setbacks at all. These «excellent» movers somehow stretched it to almost 6 hours!
We were completely packed and ready for everything to just be loaded into the truck. Boxes were taped up, Tvs unhooked– this move could have potentially been very simple. These guys took HOURS to wrap up EVERY piece of furniture we had. They didn’t just take precautionary measures to make sure our stuff wouldn’t break, they straight up wasted time. One little piece of glass from the top of a nightstand was packed in layers of bubble wrap, tape and then put into a thick cardboard box. They took at least 20 minutes to wrap each of our flat screen Tvs in 2 layers of bubble wrap, half a roll of tape, an entire layer of card board, AND a moving blanket around that. Is that really necessary?
They also started to disassemble our entire bed before my boyfriend caught them and told them to leave it assembled and just put it in the truck… which ended up fitting fine.
I was on the other end waiting at the new apartment, and my boyfriend was supervising at the old one. He had to watch over the front door of our condo, so he couldn’t stand over their shoulders the whole time moving them along, but he told them several times to stop wrapping and just put it in the truck and hurry up. They also only loaded one or two boxes in the truck at a time. What happened to these amazing movers with superpower strength who strap boxes to their backs? Not these guys. It ended up taking them 3 hours to load a packed up 1 bedroom apartment into a 16 foot truck.
On the unloading side they seemed a bit more efficient, probably because they were already well on their way to doubling the quote, and we were clearly pissed off. But in the end it took almost six hours total (quote was 3 hours), and our furniture was just stuffed into the new apartment rather than put in proper places. I don’t doubt that they would have set it all up, but by that time we just wanted them out.
I was able to negotiate the total down significantly by refusing to put up with it, but we still went over the estimate and well over payed for something that could have been quick and simple.
While we do appreciate the attention to detail and the fact that none of our stuff was damaged, a more experienced and professional team should know how to achieve this in a much more timely fashion. There are efficient ways to pack things up that are just as safe (and not a huge waste of tape and cardboard).
We thought we’d be done by noon and settled by that evening. They didn’t leave till after 3 and we spent the rest of the day unwrapping and un-​taping everything we own.
So much for stress free moving.
