Tanning by Tan Line

Great service and good equipment! I found this place via Groupon and haven’t gone anywhere (in DC) since!
I use the VersaSpa and they have very reasonable packages. The equipment is quality and the products they use are quality. The place is also very clean and the staff friendly.
Having had a terrible experience elsewhere —an experience where I had big globs of bronzer spit at me, I am thankful to find a place that uses quality product.
Very friendly staff. My guess is the gentleman who is in there most of the time is the owner …

UPDATE TO PRIOR REVIEW: Sam, the manager contacted me regarding the issue during my last visit. He was very apologetic, clarified what had gone wrong initially, and even gave me a free tan for the inconvenience. Although the staff may be a mixed bag, Sam goes above and beyond to ensure that clients are satisfied.

Being from New Jersey you would think I’d be a tanning expert, but I’ve actually only been tanning twice before purchasing a package from Tanning by Tan Line. As a bride-​to-​be with awkward tan lines — it was the only viable solution even though I am generally against tanning.
The gentleman at the front desk is very friendly and knowledgable. He does not try to push anything on you in terms of additional add on items. One perk of paying $ 17 a tan is the temporary eye coverings are free here. Most other places will charge you $ 3. I’ve never seen it busy and I’ve been able to walk right in and get the bed I wanted.
Not a fan of stand up tanning beds, they’re a little claustrophobic. Rooms are small and dusty but otherwise no complaints.
Should I ever need tanning again I would come back.

Short and sweet, this place is AWESOME. The facility is clean and modern. The machine I used was state-​of-​the-​art. Sam, the gentleman working, was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient. The tan itself is awesome (spray tan) — no drips, discolorations, or streaks, and the color is perfect! Perfect experience! would definitely, go back and recommend it to all of my friends!

This is a great place to tan. The location is extremely convenient, right across from the DuPont Circle metro. The gentleman who works there (I think maybe the owner) is really congenial and informative. The salon is immaculate (some tanning salons aren’t). It’s quiet and feels a bit more upscale than many of my tanning experiences. The tan looks nice too (I really needed some color!). If you’re on the fence I would definitely give it a try!

We’re all a little vain, some of us more than others, but in my defense, Vitamin D deficiency can lead to plenty of health problems, and I’m not talking WebMD diagnosis. I mean real problems, like pale-​itis and heavy usage of bronzers.
As a vegan, I don’t eat foods that are naturally rich in Vitamin D, so I have to find different means of exposure, like tanning salons. I love this place. The girl at the front desk is sweet. She is very attentive and has a voice that definitely carries. The place is clean and that’s pretty important since I have to take off my shoes. They provide free wink-​ease and towels are set in the cute little rooms.
I’m not yet a member, and will likely not join because a six month commitment is a bit long, and I only visit once a week, but their packages are worth buying.

Tan Line is great. The owner is chatty and kind and will honestly help you find a package without trying to upsell you. The beds are clean and you will never be too hot if you step into a bed that has recently been used. I find that I tan quite quickly here.
The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the price– I find them to be a bit pricey. Overall, I’d highly recommend for a good tan, as it’s a clean and enjoyable place.

I used a groupon to get a versa spray tan before an event. The owner was very knowledgeable about what level I should do/​whether to do clear/​bronze etc. I even messed up a bit and he let me re-​do it again to ensure an even tan. I would definitely go back! It’s right by the metro, super clean and great customer service.

I love this place! It’s super clean, the staff is really nice, and they have refreshments — including coco water! They’re prices are more expensive than others but at least you get what you pay for. I went there for the first time with a groupon special and since I never tan indoors, I had a lot of questions. The guy there kindly walked me through everything — he has a ton of patience! I used they’re mid-​priced machine for only 7 minutes and already feel like I got a bit color — I can’t wait to finish the third session (since that is typically when most see people see a bigger difference). I really recommend this place :)

This place was great. The staff is very friendly and the lobby and tanning rooms are very clean. I got a spray tan and the machine was very modern — it was heated and there was a heated drying session after the spray. The spray tan also turned out very natural and not orange or streaky. I would highly recommend!

I bought a Groupon for $ 20 to spend $ 40. This spa (or would you categorize it as a salon?) was very nice. The décor is chic and modern. A spray tan is $ 35 (cheaper than Palm Beach!) and for an extra $ 10, you can add an anti-​aging moisturizer spray thing, following the tan. The nice thing was the staff didn’t waste oxygen trying to persuade me into a package or upsell 20 different lotions to «enhance your tan». I went in, got my tan on and left with a very pleasant receptionist wishing me a wonderful day.

GO HERE PLEASE!!! Prior reviewers and I all got scared by no «tan-​lines» after the first tan. BUT the best is yet to come! After going three times, I have a very beautiful looking tan! The owner explained the technology, and even printed me literature on it. It is the highest technology in tanning that uses pressure to not burn, but deeply and evenly tan the skin.
The owner is AWESOME! He is very hospitable as he’ll allow me to talk his head off about dumb tanner questions. He is also very caring and tells people to tan in moderation. It’s not all about the business… He cares about his customer’s health.
The place is really pretty and always clean. The only reason you shouldn’t go here is because it is too expensive. But my theory is, if the cheaper one can affect your health, pay the extra bucks or don’t do it at all.

First, the place is very conveniently located – just steps from the Dupont Circle metro. It is also extremely clean and cute. Sam, the owner is always very helpful and friendly. He knows the products and the tanning packages, but he is never pushy with either. It may not be the cheapest place to tan in DC, but I think you get what you pay for. They only have stand up beds, which are much more sanitary and the max is 10 minutes, so you can be in and out in less than 20 minutes (counting checking in, getting dressed, etc.).
Even though some may think it’s silly to pay for tanning during the summer, when you live in the city with no pool and no beach and hotels charge you hundreds of dollars for access to their pools, tanning in a bed may be the best option (and the fastest).
I have been here several times and will keep going back.

PROS:
–The place itself it clean, nice, modern. Friendly staff and good location, right near the circle in Dupont.
CONS:
–The UV tanning beds (all stand-​up beds) made ZERO DIFFERENCE in my skin color, even after I went several times in one week.
–Also…they are very strict on the «one UV tan per 24 hours» rule. I came after work one day at 6:30pm, then returned the next day at 5:30pm – i.e. 23 hours later– and was not allowed to tan. Seemed a little ridiculous to me.
BOTTOM LINE: if you are in a fix, this place isn’t horrible. But there are stronger, more effective UV beds at other Dupont tanning salons. Maybe their spray/​VersaSpa tans are worth the visit.

The only reason I didn’t give Tan Line 5 stars is that I think the prices are too high. I went because I had a voucher, but would generally not pay $ 35 for a spray tan. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the facility was very clean, and the equipment is top of the line. If you’re ok with the higher prices, I would definitely recommend it.

Very friendly staff and the owner is hands on! But the whole tanning experience wasn’t good. I got ZERO results thank goodness I FOUND A BETTER TANNING PLACE I JUST WISH THE STAFF AS A WHOLE WAS AS GREAT AS THEY ARE AT TANLINES

Coming from New York I long for the days when tanning was affordable but this place is worth every penny!
The first time I went in, the gentleman at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. He gave me a tour of their beds so I knew what I was getting into before purchasing a package. The beds were clean and brand new which is a plus. I don’t like feel like I’m stepping into a time machine (aka a 1970’s tanning bed) when I go tanning! I got the package for new customers that lets you try each bed once (plus a 10% discount for mentioning Unilocal). It was a great value and I got amazing color in just three sessions.
Overall a delightful experience!

It was too expensive for me, so I don’t end up using the services. The website doesn’t work for I couldn’t find the prices ahead of time.
The place was beautiful, very clean and the guy I talked to was very nice.
