Established in 2014.

The Mara Home collection is founded on the principles of beauty, design, sustainability and hospitality. It is the culmination of knowledge gained and partnerships formed with socially and environmentally responsible designers and manufacturers of beautiful and useful furniture and accessories. Owner Erin Mara is the founder and former co-​owner of the award-​winning Capitol Hill design shop Homebody.

I stop in here every few weeks to see what’s new. Since it opened, I have found some great gifts: for housewarming, birthdays, Christmas. I love the furniture and will probably get one of their couches this year. The salespeople are very friendly and gave me some great ideas for my new apartment. The store is just up the street from Busboys and Poets. It’s a nice change of pace from the West Elms, Pottery Barns, and Room and Boards down the street.

This is definitely my favorite home store in DC. Mara is modern, sleek, and funky, and maintains an independent feel. While the quality of the furniture is as good or better than Mitchell Gold or Room & Board just south of here, the prices @ Mara are way better and shake that corporate feel. Erin, the owner, is always in the shop, incredibly nice, easy to work with, and even gave my wife and I an additional deal on an ottoman (which we now LOVE). We will be using Erin and Mara again for the foreseeable future for home goods.
