Lafayette Square Tour of Scandal, Assassination & Intrigue!

Ed is extremely knowledgeable about American history as it relates to Washington, DC and is also a superb story teller. Previously I went on two of his tours and they were both excellent. I highly recommend Ed!

Ed is a great tour guide! He is so knowledgeable and shared so many different stories. It is evident he truly has a passion for storytelling as he even gave a few extra bonus stories at the end! Just as we thought he was finished, he would share another, each one more intriguing than the last!

Really impressive tour and tour operator. This tour was jam packed with fascinating stories that brought history to life in a way that a regular person could relate to.
To be honest, I wasn’t very interested in taking this tour when my husband suggested it, but since he is a history buff I agreed. Almost immediately, we were engaged in stories that made the historians that we laud real people with «soap opera» like outcomes. Since there was so much information, I will certainly take the tour again because I would like to remember more!

What a wonderful tour! Filled with tons of interesting historical tidbits and background information, Ed brings history truly to life. I learned so much about the back stories behind this gem of a park from political assignations to civil war era spying. Highly recommended!

Ed brings an incredible wealth of knowledge to this relatively-​unknown slice of DC history and geography. While his tour focuses on the buildings immediately surrounding Lafayette Square, the stories he tells cover most of the United States’ history and were universally fascinating. Who knew so much scandal and intrigue could be packed into one tiny corner of the city?
I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone, whether a tourist looking for a more in-​depth tour or a local looking to learn more about the buildings they walk by every day. Ed is also extremely knowledgeable about DC and national history generally, so ask questions! You’ll learn a ton and have a great time.

This tour was absolutely fantastic! Who knew there was so much historical drama that occurred just beyond the front steps of the White House?!
Although this is considered a «walking tour,» you really just spend time exploring the 2-​square blocks that are locked in by H St. and Penn on the north & south and Madison Pl and Jackson Pl on the east and west. There is no glossing over details here – you dive right in to learning detailed stories about how our nation’s history was more reminiscent of a TV soap opera than your favorite epic novel.
You’ll get a chance to view the park through the eyes of a Confederate spy, discover what President narrowly dodged a bullet in broad daylight, and hear tragic stories that took place in homes that otherwise wouldn’t be standing if it wasn’t for a particular former First Lady.
Although I wouldn’t recommend this tour for young children (tour content rated PG-​13), it’s the perfect way to entertain guests and family members who are looking to learn a darker side to our capital’s history.
