Asia 54

Sushi wednesday — the best day my week. I got delivery today and was really satisfied except for fact that the rolls had a pretty high rice to sushi ratio. Presentation for takeout was actually fairly neat and would consider purchasing from here again. Also please add a spicy California roll!

This review is for takeout only. We got chicken pad Thai, a salmon avocado roll, and the Asia 54 salad. The pad Thai was definitely the winner and pretty good. The sushi was almost flavorless and had very little fish. The salad was gloppy with dressing and not very flavorful. It was fast and convenient, but I’d only go back for noodle dishes.

Sushi was fresh and had items I have not found in other states. Waiting staff was pleasant. We visited twice in a week and they remembered our preferences.

Meh. Came here for lunch the other day on a friend’s recommendation. Lunch specials are different online than in restaurant — and they do not honor the lunch menu listed on their site. We got sushi and it’s expensive for what it is. Not very big pieces and expected more. Service was decent, but not good enough to bring up the food to another star.

Note: this review is only reflecting their delivery services (total of 3 times). The first 2 times I’ve ordered from here have been phenomenal. This third and potentially last time that I decided to order from here, resorted into me wanting to write this review.
1) Food: I order the Salmon Oyako Don every time. This only consists of salmon sashimi on a bed of rice. Simple enough. The first two times were amazing. The salmon pieces were very generous. The presentation was beautiful (flower and all). The bowl contained the essentials: ginger, wasabi, etc. In addition, they also added salmon row in the center of a cut/​designed cucumber. This time, the last time, was awful. The slices were extremely thin– not even worth of being sashimi servings. The ginger/​wasabi combo was missing. Presentation was awful. It looked like someone just chopped up some salmon and threw it into a bowl. The inconsistency was a big let down because I was expecting something much better.
2) Delivery: Slow. But nothing out of the normal for this restaurant.
Maybe if I were to go sit down and eat at the restaurant, it may change my mind on the review. Hopefully they can be more consistent. Maybe this was a staffing change… Oh well.

I wish I could give zero stars. This place was terrible. My roommates and I ordered three 8 piece sushi rolls and they were TINY!!! They all came In one small box. I also ordered the sweet and sour chicken and it taste like super oily chicken McNuggets from McDonald’s. Such a scam.

It was average quality sushi. My husband got the ramen and I tried it too. That was also of average quality. Staff is pleasant and mindful of checking for any needs. Price was typical of area. Good place if you just want some sushi and not looking for anything too crazy or amazing.

The food is decent. Pretty standard Asian fair — not really authentic since it is offering Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese all on the same menu. Staff is extremely friendly and efficient. A good option if you crave Asian food in the area.

Real asian fusion cuisine! Tasty tasty and one more time tasty! And you will meet very friendly staff, fast service as well as affordable prices!

Yummy. I’ve only ordered takeout from here a few times but the food has been delicious every time for a reasonable price! Love their Tom Yum soup, tuna tataki yellowtail sashimi salad, as well as their drunken noodles, and some curry I had a few times a ago!
Mmmmmmm… Good!

Nothing special here. I order delivery which took about 45 mins for steamed gyoza (ok), pad thai with chicken (very bland, dry and not enough sauce), and mango sticky rice (yum). But the best part was the dessert. Bummer…

I ordered a to-​go meal from here recently– selected the ginger stir-​fry, which was a good choice. Service was quick and efficient. The food quality was very good, especially the meat, something I look for in virtually all Asian meals (too many nice Asian restaurants with mediocre meat in the meals out there). The beef was tender and flavorful, vegetables were fresh and not over-​done. Good sauce, also. And… they responded to my special request of «not too spicy» without a blink, and got the heat level just right!
My two caveats with Asia 54: they over-​do the sauce, like many Asian restaurants– too much! Please, our meals do-​not-​need-​to-​be-​swimming-​in-​sauce! Second, this place tends to be pricey– yeah, I know, it’s near/​in Dupont Circle, which bumps any meal up a few dollars (due to the expensive real estate prices, not necessarily the quality), but please, $ 2 more for brown rice, when the basic meal is already high? Tsk-​tsk…
Four stars for very good food and service– just watch the sauce and prices.

Overpriced, plain vanilla sushi. 40 dollars for a take out dinner for two is ridiculously overpriced, especially as the quality of the fish is nothing out of the ordinary. A flower was placed in the take out box which is cute, so why not spend some time and love on the sushi itself?
Take out is basically the only option as the restaurant has just one table.

Came on early on a Friday night with the hubs. We are from SF and were reluctant based on the reviews but it was close by our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised about how good the food was! We had a few rolls, tuna and avocado special, salmon sashimi and sake. Service was also good. If we lived nearby we would definitely come back again. Ask for Anne– she is great!

We ordered take out from here. When we first called, the lady on the phone was giggling in the background with her friend and kept getting distracted when trying to place our order. She said the food would be delivered in 45 minutes but it only took 20 minutes. We ordered the general Tsos chicken, 2 California rolls with crabmeat, 1 shrimp tempura roll, and 1 Philadelphia roll. The general Tsos was interesting-​it had a tangy sweet sauce verses the usual thick general Tsos sauce. The California rolls with crab meat were questionable-I’m not sure if it was actual crab meat like they claimed. The shrimp tempura roll was great. The Philadelphia roll was good as well, just the salmon in the roll didn’t taste as fresh.
I give it three stars because the delivery was fast and food was overall good.

First off because I know all the guys are wondering, yes the servers at Asia 54 are hot. The servers have a really great attitude and are super nice too. Ok now let’s get to the food. Sushi was really amazing here so if you like sushi then you will be very satisfied. I got the California roll with crab meat (8pc $ 7, what!). Also I got the curry laksa which was so impossibly good. Meaty, spicy, hearty, creamy soup like curry, definitely try this. Huge bowl for only $ 10.

I actually really like this place even though I’ve only tried one dish– the Chicken Laksa. I will return just for it. The plump eggplant, the spicy curried sauce… it was just mmmmm~
It was a large portion served in a big bowl. For those unfamiliar with laksa, it is a chinese malay soup. I just discovered it here and I am now officially replacing my phở and ramen intake with laksa.
At Asia 54, it was a thick spicy curry soup with egg noodles, slabs of juicy eggplant, lean chicken, and crunchy string beans, topped off with a sprinkle of fried garlic which was an amazing touch. I can’t wait for it to get cold outside, so I can guiltlessly enjoy this delicious hot dish!

The secret to my five-​star sushi joint ratings is frankly no mystery. If the place has noticeably fresh Uni, that’s the ticket!
I ordered up Toro, Maguro, Akagai and Uni.
Itamae was skillful and understated. Very nice guy who wished me a speedy return.
The ambiance was fine — décor was unmemorable and it was well lit. The bar was modest, and had two sections of 4 seats each (I think).
I would certainly make this a regular joint if I lived in DuPont circle.

We came here half an hour before closing and the food was good. We had pad Thai and Singapore noodles. I didn’t want spicy noodles so I think they came out great. We also ordered the crab Rangoon, which was tasteful and we also had sticky rice with mango for dessert. That was my fav! The mangos were sweet and the rice was on par. The portions were good and shareable. Service was great and overall we enjoyed it. Would recommend if you are staying around the area. This is conveniently across from palomar hotel :)
